Hey guys. As you can see in my title, i have some problems with my ps3 and some help would be greatly appreciated. One or two years ago, my ps3 suddenly turned off while i was playing and i couldn't turn it on again. The light turned green but it became red( and turned off ) whenever i tried to open it. So my father and i took it the place where we bought it in order to fix that problem. After i got it back, the problem was solved but not completely, after some time of playing, the ps3 would still turned off but i could at least turned it on again without any problem. For a long time though, i was not playing any games until now that the school is closed, i started again and i've realized that the ps3 fan is getting really extremely loud and it would still turned off again. My brother tried to help me with that by opening the ps3 and trying to clean it, but after that i think it got worse. Not only does the fan sound really loud again, but now it shows me a notification in the top right hand corner of the screen saying that the system has become too hot and i need to turn it off before turning it on again. That's the first time i see that in my ps3. So guys could you help me with that? Any advice or something, because right now i can't play any game for more than 5 minutes before that notification pops up! ((

I had a different issue with my PS3 about a year or so ago where it would only play DVD's and audio CD's but not games or BluRays (FRUSTRATING!). It was out of warranty (of course) but I called Sony Customer Service and they were really easy to deal with. They sent me a box to ship it to them in and I think it was a fairly reasonable price and turn-around time to get it fixed by the manufacturer. Sorry I don't have any info about your specific problem, but thought my experience might help if you're thinking about contacting Sony.

I thought of that solution, but i would prefer something that wouldn't force me to spend any money. Thanks for that though, maybe sometime i would try to contact sony about that prob.

Cool bro, let me know what you end up doing. I did a lot of google research on my PS3 problem at the time and there were a lot of people saying it was an easy fix and you can just buy the parts you need on-line, etc. In the end I just decided to go the safe route by sending it back to Sony, but if you want to try a home fix I'm sure there are a ton of people out there who've had a similar issue and fixed it without sending it off to Sony. I'd also check on youtube. Good luck!

norcalco, your issue was the blu ray laser going out. It happened to mine too but I was still in warranty. Though the fix isn't that complicated if you have a mind for machines.
As for your issue Spidey, it may be overheating. Does it get ridiculously hot when playing like nearly burning yourself hot? If it does then this your issue. Try and do what you can to cool it like reposition it, put a fan on it, make sure its vents aren't covered and clean them. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks for the advice Dedman. To be honest, i never really try to touch it to check how hot it is, but i guess it must be really hot since a notification appears on my screen saying that the system has become hot and it needs to be turned off( something that happened for the first time yesterday ). As for the position, i'm not sure if it's badly placed, but i could always take a pic of it and show it to some of you guys and let me know if there is anything negative to the way i have it placed. The fan sounds like a good idea. As for the vents, not they aren't covered and as for cleaning it, this is something that happened yesterday and it's since then that my ps3 got worse....lol

Usually cleaning vents doesn't make things worse, that is odd. Just make sure it isn't surrounded by anything that may be keeping heat from escaping and try and keep it out of direct sunlight or anything that may increase its temperature like other electronics and such.

it wasn't just the vents but the whole inside of the ps3, maybe something went wrong while we were cleaning some other parts. But now i see the prob. I have my ps3 next to my tv. Maybe that's the prob?
In addition though, some other people, told me that the ps3 fan is probably busted. Is that an actual possibility?

Well, if the fan was busted that would definitely cause it to overheat but you can usually hear the fan whirring so I assumed it was and we all know how assumptions work out. Does the fan come on when you turn the PS3 on? Is there air flow coming from the vents when the PS3 is on? If not, then that is likely your problem. You can try to see online if you can find a replacement fan and then install it yourself or take it to someplace that could do it.
Does your TV produce a lot of heat? If it does so, then move it. Most new TVs don't produce a problematic amount of heat so usually it is not a problem but I don't know anything about your specific situation.
I wish you luck.

I try to recheck once again my ps3. Once again, when i turned it on, the fan was quiet until some seconds passed, then the fan was getting louder and louder until it got extremely loud and yeah it would still come air out of the ps3 vents, a lot of air. Then after 1 or 2 minutes of gameplay, it shown me the warning notification of the hot system. My tv is a really old one( unfortunately the new one is in my father's possession ) so i would assume that it does produce a fair amount of heat, but the problem is that i don't believe it's my tv's fault because i don't believe in the extremely short period of 1-2 minutes, it would overheat my ps3, but i'm not much of an electronic expert so i might not even know what i'm talking about. Another thing though is that even though nothing covers my vents, i have my ps3 in front of my bedroom's wall and the distance is 21 cm. Could that be a problem? Btw thanks a lot dedman for your help, i really appreciate it!
