You can choose your own, but not to the point where you make up what you feel like making up. The evolution line would have to be something that's already been done or can be done, but don't think that means you're limited to what's been shown on the TV shows. Digimon can already go down different evolution lines. Take a look at Agumon for instance. As for the line you just put, it would work up to Seraphimon. He doesn't evolve from Gigadramon. The way I see how digivolutions work in general is based on how that particular digimon lives. When the RP starts, it's that kinda stuff I wanna see taking place with character development. As for off-limit digimon, I'm not quite sure yet. I'mma say no to the Royal Knights for now, and wait and see for the rest.

How about Super-Ultimates? They possible should be banned. Although I think most of them are Royal Knights. I count Paladin Mode Imperialdramon as one. On another note, I also count Omegamon as one. Come on he was formed from two powerful Mega levels. That should make him the next one up not the same level. Like merging Veemon and Stingmon, you get a ultimate. Anyone else agree?
And are people choosing to be good, bad or even neutral?

Let's not get too happy with the banned characters. I think the overall goal of the role play should always be what's best for the story. If someone decides to come in with a super-mega and manages to tie it in with what's goin' on, that's alright. I think it's best to go case-by-case for right now at least. If someone comes in and says, "My Digimon is Zeed Millennium and he destroys everything" well, most likely that person won't be role playing to begin with.
And I think it'd be cool for people to choose their side, but thinking about it now, that can really be covered in the personality section, and it won't really make much of a difference, since this'll be a group thing anyway.
So as a recap, the basic story is something, something, something, yadda, yadda, monsters an' junk, banned to the digital world. Royal Knights were supposed to guard it. They get taken out somehow, maybe dumped to a different dimension, Digimon are crossing over to the real world.
That's great, so next comes the "how do the tamers get involved" part. Most of this should be covered in each different person's background from the get-go, but let's come up with a reason real quick on why Digimon would actually partner up with humans to begin with...Yeah, I don't really have anything for that.
Naturally, there'll be some Digimon who'll think it's best not to cross over, and some who do, but what motive will there be for Digimon finding people in the real world to team up with and fight off other Digimon who just want to come back to the real world?

My idea was that they couldn't Digivolve without them. Since the first time they entered the Digital World no one has evolved. They have stayed the same level. That's one theory. Another theory could be that rumours have spread through the Digital World that having a tamer can elicit hidden powers that they couldn't posses being on their own.

There's definitely gonna be some sorta bond between humans and Digimon, but I'm not quite sure we should make them so dependent on them that they can't digivolve without 'em. I'm thinking more along the lines of a mutual goal for the two worlds. It'll probably tie into why those dark Digimon crossed over. Let's see, Digimon suddenly appearing in the real world will definitely be a shocking thing to see for the humans. Since it was a group of humans that sent the Digimon away to begin with, maybe the dark Digimon are targeting blood relatives of those humans, and some Digimon see that as wrong and decide to try and stop them, but fail. Yeah, maybe Apocalamon de-digivolves them, and those digi-eggs make their way to some of the kids, and that could be where the RP starts. I dunno, though.
As for your profile, you skipped over the most important parts. Background and personality is usually always a must have, because it serves as a basis of where your character starts off before his adventure. The personality gives everyone an idea of what he's like, what he does, who he'd be seen hanging out with, even why he looks the way he does. Is he lazy, outgoing? Why is he like that? Does he scare easily? What made him like that? Maybe he's a jerk? What does he wear, and why does he where it? (That's more appearance stuff though.)
Then, there's the background. Really, this is the entire basis of your character. Everything, from how he looks, to how he acts and feels most of the time, to where he lives, what his ethnicity is--everything, stems from his background. It should be viewed as a biography of everything he's been through up to the first post you make. If you want his background to tie into something important for the story and not want to reveal it, that's fine, but there's still a lot more to him than that. Who are his parents? Are they rich, well to do? Did they give him everything he wanted? Did they reject him? Is he adopted? Does he know he's adopted? Does he get along with his parents? He's twelve years old, is he ahead of his class, behind? Slow? Is he a brat? Is he likable? Does he even go to school? If not, why's that? What about his friends? Does he have any, or does everyone hate him? You don't gotta get so detailed that you go into telling what he got on his sixth birthday and whatnot, but give me enough information about him so I believe that he's a real three dimensional character as opposed to just someone you made up on the fly for a short RP. Ya feel me?
The same holds true for the Digimon. Remember, we want to give them enough stuff to make them 3D characters in this story, too. Personality's formed from his background. Was your Digimon born in some wild uncharted jungle in the forest, or in one of those digi-daycare things? Maybe he was so adventurous that he left his safe home to be out in the wild. Maybe he prefers being alone, by himself, in a nice safe place. I don't know, it's up to you to tell me. In this RP did your Digimon just hatch or is it already at its Rookie stage? Again, background should tell me everything he's been through up until your first post.
Now, I'm used to RP profiles filling up half a page, but it's cool if you don't do that. Just give enough information that's needed. Try to go for at least two decent paragraphs for the background and at least one for the personality. Think you can do that?

The way I write, if a person comes into a scene from say a film, you don't know who it is, you don't know his past, present and you're watching to see them and his future. So I don't see why a person should know this going into something else. Being a drama student, I know all about Past/Present/Future. And this is what am best at. Creating a character.
The reason for me saying I'll leave it in future posts is because you don't read a page in a book and know all about the character. I'll only give enough information in my first post to get a feel for the character and his Digimon, depending on if he gets it right away or not. That's just my style.

That's cool and all, but participating in an RP is a little different from writing a book on your own. Everything involving RPs is collaborative. The story, the setting, how things are done, and as such, it's important to get a good feel for how and where everybody starts from. That's why we make profiles in the first place. So before the story is put into action, we know right off the bat who's who, and where we can go to next.
Think of if like how when a new writer takes over a comic book title. If he doesn't know the history of that character at all, he'll probably re-write a bunch of things, change some key elements about that character around, essentially, recreating the wheel. Now, he could go through reading every single comic book that character's been in, or he could go to a wiki, and get the gist of how that character acts, where that character's been, and how he acts, and go from there.
Now rest assured, no one's gonna be role playing other people's characters (unless you give 'em permission to) but the same general concept holds true.
You read up on someone's profile the same way you look up someone's wiki article. The profile isn't necessarily part of the RP, it's more of a reference for you as the role player, a strong foundation so you know, "okay, this is where the character started from," and you develop him from there with each of your posts in the story. Even when it comes to writing in general, there are books out there that have accompanying handbooks and guides to a character.

As you said no ones writing my character. He's never existed, so no one can know anything about him. I'll play ball and write a few things down. Alls I'm saying is that I prefer to gradually show my character. Not give it all in one go. Then there's no wiggle room. Also in my earlier post in this thread, I said I was a descriptive writer, so I can show my character and his Digimon's personality etc.

That's cool, that's cool. And just so you don't think I'm pullin' this out of thin air, here's how RP sites generally do profiles. An entire forum dedicated to one big digimon role play. A small subset of a forum dedicated to a role play. And here are some single threads that are all stories in and of themselves. Example 1, Example 2, Example 3, Example 4

Important note. Do the tamer's know of Digimon? Like in series 3 of the Digimon series. Is it a show in their world?

Good question. Let's go with no. Even if there are people who believe monsters, myths, and folklore exist, they won't know them like Digimon. No one's gonna go around saying, "Oh, hey, that's a Growlmon!" They'll be like "Oh crap! That's a big, red dinosaur!"
And while I'm thinkin' of it, let's all stick with the Digimon's dubbed names for the sake of consistency. Omegamon's gonna be called Omnimon. Dukemon's gonna be called Gallantmon. Lord Knightmon's gonna be called Crusadermon, and so on and so forth. Really won't affect much, but like I said, it's just for the sake of consistency.

So we'll need to explain what they can do and such. Because the tamers won't know what to do like in Series 1.

Yeah, and that's just good story writing in general. If I'm a reader who hasn't heard of Digimon, but decide to pick up a book, and all I see is, "Agumon used his Pepper Breath attack causing the Gabumon to fall down," I'mma be like "What in the world?"
And yeah, like in season one, the tamers won't know who's who, or what's what involving Digimon. All they'll see is monsters.

Could some users choose human while other choose monsters? Would that be viable in your RPG?

Yeah, that'll be cool. Human without a digimon, digimon without a human, digimon and a human, whatever you feel would be cool. I'll probably get start this thing off in a week or two. I got finals I gotta devout my time to, right now, but in the meantime, there's tons of Digimon stuff out there on the web. I like to use Wikimon for looking up stuff.
