ORIGINS
This section will be devoted to the backstory behind the Marquis' origins .
As some may know(while others may not) , Clyde Wyncham was originally from another universe , a universe much like our own where super-powered characters only existed in comic books .
However , unbeknownst to most , there existed a powerful mutant in this world(the only mutant to ever exist in this reality) , a mutant with game-changing powers . His name : Clyde Wyncham .
Marvel 1985 # 6
As the proceeding scans show , as a mere boy he once hypnotized his entire town and brought his father from the grave , a dead man walking(no pun intended) :
His mother's shocked and violent reaction to the revelation of her son's true nature apparently resulted in Clyde being institutionalized because of the brain damage he suffered from her attack .
20 years later...
All of a sudden , villainous characters from the fictional world of comic books started appearing out of nowhere on the world .
It is revealed that it was Clyde who summoned them , for the abject purpose of teaching the hospital staff a lesson for taking away his comic books , as he was angry that his stuff was left behind when he was being moved to the new hospital .
After Jerry Goodman(the person who was originally hinted to possess Clyde's mutant reality warping powers in prior issues) confronts Clyde , he is shot to death by Red Skull in an attempt to please his master . However , this visibly disturbs Clyde and in a fit of rage he sends all the villains back home . Since his own world is ill-equipped to handle such a powerful being , Captain America volunteers to take him back to the MU , where scientists are more accustomed with the superhuman phenomena :
Fantastic Four # 568 : The final revelation on how Clyde metamorphosized into the Marquis of Death
Back in the Marvel Universe , Clyde was being held in Area 87 , under a device which Reed Richards built that puts him in a state of pleasant dreams , and thereby prevents his fractured mind from wreaking havoc to reality . However , on a fateful day Reed's adversaries united and attacked the facility , thereby releasing Clyde from his slumber . As a result , like the Marquis' own monologue states , "many dreams died that day" :
Upon awakening and killing all of those antagonists(notable among whom were the Molecule Man and Aron the Rogue Watcher) , Clyde's bloodthirsty instincts were awakened as well , and then went on to become master of space and time , traversing all of reality for a billion years , until he finally became.....the Marquis Of Death .
