I've noticed their books have a similar style. Is it a lack of inks? It doesn't strike me as traditional comic book art, but I'm not saying that is a bad thing.

Digital painting's the style. It's how most of their artists color over their lines. It's pretty much mimicking things done with traditional painting, things like watercoloring, oil, etc with a computer. You usually find that kinda art done for conceptual things like video game or movie promotion, at least that's what comes to mind when I think of it. I've always had an affinity towards that kinda art, and thought it as an amazing idea to employ it in a comic book. Gives you a quasi-photo-realistic look with still enough vibrant colors to make you feel like you're a part of a surreal setting.
