Xavier rebootBorn to privilege in London, September 1st, 1963 to nuclear researcher Brian Xavier and his wife, Sharon. They moved to Winchester, New York when Xavier was still a boy in order for his father to continue his research as a leading scientist in the United States. Though they lived in New York, Brian spent 3 months at a time in New Mexico for his work, which often left Xavier isolated as his mother Sharon spent more time at elitest parties or drinking heavily in her private wing of their mansion. At 10 years old, Xavier was attending college in New Mexico to try to be closer to his father. Try as he might, Xavier could not connect with his father, who was outwardly unimpressed with his son's superior intellect and would push Xavier away. Feeling rejected for not being good enough, Xavier doubled his efforts and had his B.S. in Biology at 11 years old. Things came to a head when the degree was mocked for being an unimportant field as far as his father was concerned and Xavier decided to pursue a doctorate at Oxford to get away from his impossible to please father and drunk of a mother. At 16, Xavier received his second doctorate, by which time he had gone completely bald. Xavier experienced his powers for the first time at his graduate party, where he learned that most, if not all his friends either were envious or afraid of his brilliant mind and some even hated him outright for it. This led to Xavier becoming withdrawn and he shrank away from parties and friends. There was one exception however, a brilliant student in her own right, 16 year old Scottish Moira Kinross MacTaggert. She doggedly pursued Xavier until she was able to break through his wall. She was in love with him from the very moment she had met him. It was her that pushed him into teaching and entering the field of research at Oxford; something he grew to love very much as his brillance was revered and respected. At 20, Moria had completed her own doctorate in genetic mutation and was pregnant with their first child. Pregnancy did not put her out of her research though as she was carving out a career of her own. It was at this time that Xavier told her of his abilities as a mutant, something which fascinated her and only served to increase her attraction to him. However, just a few months into their pregnancy, Xavier met Erik and they became fast friends. Xavier told her of Erik and his incredible ability and at first, everything seemed fine in their relationship. As the months went on though, Xavier became increasingly distant, spending a disproportional amount of time with Erik, even going as far as to neglect his research and teaching responsibilities. At 6 months pregnant, Moria left Xavier and went back to Scotland, where she continued her career and requested Xavier to not contact her. She realized that even though Xavier cared about her a great deal, he was not in love with her. This was a very had fact to face and it caused her to refuse contact with Xavier for years. Xavier spent the next 21 years traveling with Erik around the globe helping humans and mutants alike until they were called upon to help a very special Jean Grey in New York in 2005. This gives Xavier the idea to create the school for mutants. Xavier and Erik return to Xavier's empty childhood home, only kept by the estate manager and the servants. Xavier and Erik worked together to repurpose the grand mansion into a functional school. Once it is built, Jean is brought in at 4 years old as the first student. Wanting to bring in more, Xavier decides to seek out more students. He saw that teaching brought down Erik's emotional walls so he decided to entrust the school to Erik while he traveled alone. Erik's power and incredible will made him uniquely capable of handling the transfer of a significant portion of Xavier's knowledge, so he may effectively teach what he had himself never learned, as he had never gone to school as a child. Unbeknownst to Xavier, Erik still held onto his fear of human hate. He believed in teaching the students to protect himself, so he militarized the 5 senior students, raising them not only with the highest moral standard but also how to aggressively defend themselves and the other students. Xavier makes occasional visits to the school to monitor the progress and while he does not approve of the combat education, he understands Erik's need for it so he allows it to continue and even gives consent. During his travels, he meets and befriends Gabrielle Haller after helping her recover from her traumatic experiences as a severely abused child and the two travel together for a while. When they separate, neither one of them is aware of Gabrielle's pregnancy and she keeps it a secret from Xavier even unto his grave. She does however, seek his help with her son's unstable mind and after their son is stabilized, Gabrielle sends him to live at the school, where he can be with other mutants. After he announces the school to the public, Xavier returns to the school permanently on Jean Grey's 17th birthday on June 3rd, 2019. Xavier trusted the humans were ready to accept the presence of mutants and truly believed in their ability to do good. Just a few weeks later, the school is attacked by 2,000 angry humans with advanced weaponry geared specifically for the powers of most of the students at the school. Xavier is knocked unconscious in the first wave of the attack. The X-Men are overwhelmed and all the students that try to flee are wiped out. Only those that fight hold back the unrelenting carnage. Xavier regains consciousness when the humans are closing in around the defeated students. Xavier tries to talk reason to the humans and when that fails, Xavier refuses to attack them but does try to force them to give up their attack. Their psychic dampeners cause a feedback that creates in Xavier a great deal of pain and he is unable to focus. The leader of the group approaches Xavier and brazenly shoots Xavier down with a smile. Erik tries to stop the bullet but was shocked to find it was not metal and it passed right through the desperate grasp of his power. Xavier knows he has failed in his dream of mutants and humans coexisting peacefully but he still had hope that someone could accomplish it for him. As he lay in Erik's arms, bleeding out, he grabs Erik and whispers to him, "Protect our children..." and with that, slips away. The rage unleashed from Erik is unmatched and for the first time since abandoning his quest of vengeance against the Nazis, he uses his power with lethal force just as the Brotherhood arrives to assist.

Magneto rebootBorn in Germany in 1929 to Jewish father Jakob Lehnsherr and mother Edie Eisenhardt. He was given the name Erik Magnus Lehnsherr after Jakob's best friend, who was killed in WWI. Erik spent his early years heavily bullied by German children for being Jewish and because he was born with white hair and had violet eyes, traits of albanism though he produced melanin normally in all other parts of his body. He also spent his time helping his father with the family bakery business, where he would witness daily picketing from Sturmabteilung who intimidated Jewish citizens and deterred German customers from buying from the bakery. Because he would spend his time helping his father, Erik never attended school. In 1934, Erik was blessed with a sister, Ruth who Erik cared for above all things. Being sickly and malnourished due to the hardships pressed on them by the Nazi Sturmabteilung, Erik often gave up his portions of food to his mother and sister. Former German friends of the family refused to speak to them and Jewish families that used to be welcome could no longer be trusted because many would steal from one another to provide for their own families. In this time, the Lehnsherr family became extremely close. In 1938, Jakob's anger boils over and he violently attacks the Sturmabteilung. The shock of the attack takes them by surprise and they are unable to defend themselves and one is killed in front of Erik. This causes the Lehnsherr family to flee Germany and take Edie's last name to avoid capture. Successfully making the journey to Poland, they survived there an entire year and even flourished with Jakob and Erik working as laborers. Ruth's health stabilized and the family knew happiness before the Germans invaded Poland in 1939. There, the family was forced to live in ghettos until Ruth's deteriorating condition forced the family to attempt escape. They are quickly captured and hauled off to labor camps. Ruth dies along with hundreds of others during transport and Edie loses her will to live. Her failure to cooperate results in the Nazis executing her in front of Jakob and Erik. Erik's powers spring to life with the loss of his sister and mother but Jakob muzzles his son. Fearing for Erik's life, he urges passivity. Failing to give the Nazis the fight they wanted, Jakob is beaten and moved to a train bound for a death camp. Erik never sees his father again and it leaves him with a powerful lesson about being passive. Erik is sent to a labor camp where he suffered starvation, exhaustion, regular beatings, and even "experiments" performed by Nazi scientists. Finally, Erik is sent to a death camp in 1942, where he is assigned as part of the Sonderkommando due to his above average physical condition. As a Sonderkommando, he was forced to dispose of gas chambered victims at Auschwitz II. He avoids "rotation", a process where the Sonderkommando are killed every 4 months, because his powers allowed him to have an uncanny ability to locate gold on the dead Jews. Having witnessed several rotations in gas chambers and punished Sonderkommandos who missed gold that were thrown into crematoriums while still alive, it was he that organized the uprising in October 7, 1944. Erik killed many Nazi SS soldiers but his lack of mastery with his power proves his undoing and the uprising is quickly crushed under the superior forces. Erik survives until liberation on January 27, 1945 by the Soviet Union by the 322nd Rifle Division of the Red Army with a 16 year old Natasha Romanova having provided intelligence on the location and operation of Auschwitz II and leading the Red Army force as the Black Widow agent. Erik never forgets Natasha's efficiency in combat or her resolve for one so young. Were it not for Erik's mutant physiology, he surely would have died long ago. Erik spends some time helping the Holocaust survivors, volunteering at clinics while secretly learning to control his power in the displacement camps provided by the Allied Forces. Even though the intent was to save the victims of the Holocaust, the conditions of the displacement camps were poverty level and many fell to disease and starvation. Erik on many occasions, witnessed the Allied Forces give up their own rations, medicines and other supplies for the survivors though and it was this that put a strong love of the Allied military in Erik's mind. Erik left the camps in 1952, when most of the camps had been emptied and closed. He spent many years hunting former Nazi Schutzstaffel to seek revenge, all the while becoming more and more powerful. By 1983, Erik was well aware that his power was slowing his aging as he still appears to be in his prime despite being 54 years old. His hunt brings him to London, where he encounters a very young 19 year old Professor Charles Xavier. Xavier convinces Erik to give up his mission of vengeance and together they travel the globe helping others, especially mutants. In 2005, Xavier helps a 3 year old Jean Grey overcome her traumatic experience and gets the idea to form the school. Together, Charles and Erik re-purpose Charles' childhood home and Jean is brought in as the first student. A few years later, they bring in Scott, Bobby, and Warren. Xavier decides that he wants many more students at the school and that Erik needs to stay at the school because the students soften him. So Xavier leaves by himself. Still haunted by his past, Erik militarizes the 5 senior students to defend the school from potential attackers. Over time, hundreds of students come to the school and Erik becomes very close with all of them, knowing each one by name. He helps his X-Men prevent minor terrorist plans from the Brotherhood on occasion. This and Xavier sending hundreds of mutants to the school cause a hate group to form. They see the X-Men as the beginnings of a mutant army. They organize and through an investor, acquire the funding for advanced weaponry. One of the students at the school is a mutant hater, despite being one himself and provides information on all the abilities of the students. The hate group prepares themselves accordingly and launch an attack shortly after Xavier returns to help teach the hundreds of students. Xavier is knocked unconscious during the initial attack and the students that flee are easily picked off. Only the handful of the hundreds that fight manage hold back the thousands of armed humans, armed with gear to counter the most powerful mutants. Xavier recovers and tries to reason with the humans. When that fails, he refuses aggressive action but tries to use his powers to force the humans to stop. Protected by psychic dampeners, the humans shoot Charles and Erik is unable to stop it due to none of the guns or ammo being made of metal. Xavier manages to tell Magneto to protect their children before dying and Erik's rage is unleashed on the humans, killing hundreds in one blow just as the Brotherhood arrives to assist. Since none of the Brotherhood were known to the humans, they quickly kill most of the humans. The Brotherhood help to bury the hundreds of mutants that lie in the school and yard, including Xavier. Erik can no longer wait for humans to come and haul him off to a death camp and decides he needs to be on the attack, to fight for his species before another event like what happened at the school can ever happen again. He asks for the X-Men to come with him but they choose to honor Xavier's memory and dream; only Scott chooses to go with Erik, not because he believes in Erik's new decision but because he wants to keep Erik from becoming evil. Many of the students do leave with Erik and he absorbs the Brotherhood, organizing them into a highly dangerous and efficient army.

Beast rebootBorn in 2002 to Norton and Edna McCoy in Chicago Illinois, Hank was born with physical mutations specifically because his father was caught in the released radiation of a nuclear power plant meltdown prior to it being contained when he was younger. This led to Hank's stocky, ape-like appearance, unusually large hands and feet, and feet that looked like and functioned like hands. His redneck father and mother see him as a freak and his absurd intellect only enhances their ignorant beliefs. Hank suffers neglect as well as physical and verbal abuse growing up in the McCoy house. The closest thing Hank ever gets to a hug from his parents are when his father intentionally misses when throwing a beer bottle at Hank's head. This abuse leads Hank to build walls of witty comebacks to insulate himself from the pain he deals with daily. Hank would often run away from home as a child and break into the local library after hours. He would spend entire nights absorbing knowledge before sneaking away to the "safe house" he built for himself in one of the subway tunnels. During his illegal research at the library, he discovered what he really was by reading all the published works of Dr. Charles Xavier. The need for food and the hope that his parents might actually care about him and miss him this time around always brought him home though and it always broke his heart to see them angry that he had returned. Hank was bullied in school often, mostly due to his brutish appearance and incredible knowledge on all things. Knowledge of his mutant nature was a well kept secret, known only to himself and his parents. Hank had always been physically much stronger, faster, and more agile than the other students but aside from the dexterity he had with his feet, he was still within human limits. That changed at 12 years old when he entered puberty. Hank gained significant muscle mass through his development but his mutation mostly enhanced his physical stats well beyond human limits for his size as well as a boost in his aggression. He could now perform feats even the most experienced Olympic athletes could only dream of. The aggression added by his mutation is what gave him the courage to compete in sports. He joined nearly every sport offered by his high school; wrestling, football, basketball, baseball, and soccer. He avoided water polo because of his feet. Hank did exceptionally well at all the sports he played and he was being scouted by colleges from all over the country even though he had intentionally decided to let his grades slip in order to appear as though he had leveled out academically. Hank initially did this to just blend in but once he gained local fame for his sports ability, his goals to fit in were replaced with goals of being loved by everyone. His brilliance on any field earned him the scorn and jealousy of his peers though and they took to spying on him to see if he was cheating with performance enhancers. While they found no evidence of steroid use, they did find out that he was a mutant. The students set up a trap by convincing the girl Hank had a secret love for, Jennifer Nyles, to take him to the prom. She initially was repulsed by the suggestion until she learned it was to humiliate him. She seduces him and then gives him several roofies. While unconscious, the schoolmates strip him naked, put a shock collar around his neck, and cage him in the football field to be mocked by the prom "after-party" they hosted there. The bullies kept him there for three days over the weekend while they camped on the field. They refused him food and water unless he wore the collar, taking turns urinating on him and in his water. They even defecated in his food. Hank resisted but after constant physical and psychological torture his whole life, the events while caged had reached in him a mental critical mass and he eventually broke down and drank and ate what they gave him while weeping in shame. This disgusted the students but almost immediately after, they jeered and became incensed and increased the thrill of what they could make him do. The following Monday morning, the groundskeeper was making his rounds and saw the students still at it with Hank. Infuriated, the groundskeeper tried to catch one of the students but they fled. Once Hank is freed, the groundskeeper immediately reports the action but since most of the students were on all the high school sports teams, the issue is brushed under the rug. Hank immediately drops out of school and often considered suicide in his deep depression. Knowledge of his mutant nature is shared locally and all colleges refused to even return any of his attempts at communication. It is at this time, shortly before Hank's 17th birthday in 2019, that Xavier approches him about the school. Seeing it as an escape from his life, Hank readily agrees but since he is still underage, he needed permission from his parents. Xavier speaks with the McCoys about his school for mutants but his parents were firmly against it unless one condition was met; Xavier must agree to adopt Hank and take him away from them forever. Sensing Hank's internal agony at hearing such a condition, Xavier gives Hank two choices. Either he can come to the school with him as his adopted son, or he could forcibly alter the minds of Hank's parents and everyone that knew Hank into loving him forever. As hard as it was to make the choice, Hank chose the school because he believed it to be wrong to try to force anyone to love another person, no matter how much that love is desired. This pleased Xavier and he immediately signed the adoption papers. He told Hank that he would have altered everyone's mind had Hank chosen to stay, because of all he had suffered through but he would never have been welcome at the school if he had made that choice. At the school, Hank initially keeps to himself but Jean and Bobby aren't having it and they refuse to allow Hank to withdraw into himself. Jean encourages and challenges his intellect and Bobby always make sure Hank is involved in whatever pranks and trouble-making he can think up. Though Hank is too afraid to admit it, Jean and Bobby mean more to him than anything in existence. Hank flourishes under Xavier's education and by the time he is 17, he has earned his BS in Health Science, Genetics, and Biotechnology, all in less than one year at the school. He immediately pursues several Ph degrees in a broad range of fields and is well on his way to getting them by the time of the attack on the school. Hank fights passionately to protect Jean Grey once she is taken out of the fight but he is kept too busy to help her directly during the attack. After the fight had ended and the funerals were had, Hank argues against Erik's decision to aggressively fight the humans. Hank does believe in Xavier's dream but he does agree that sometimes, you need to fight to defend yourself and those you love but only to defend. He is against any idea of war so he decides to stay at the school.

Gambit rebootRemy Etienne LeBeau was found seemingly abandoned at only a few weeks old on the doorstep to the home of Jean-Luc LeBeau in New Orleans, Louisiana in early 2003. Jean-Luc, unable to sire any children of his own, took the boy in and raised him as his own. He had always assumed Remy was abandoned because of his unique eyes but Jean-Luc saw the eyes as an indicator that Remy was special and meant for great things. In truth, Remy was not abandoned at all nor was he ever born. Remy is the product of successful DNA combination and cloning of Scott Summers and Sinister. Jean-Luc was carefully and strategically selected to raise Remy in a way that Sinister believed would serve him well in the future. Just about the time Remy learned how to walk, he was being taught the ways of thievery. Instead of reading, writing, and arithmetic like other children his age, Remy was learning parkour, gymnastics, several fighting styles that took advantage of his limber nature, how to read people, how to manipulate them, and how to be the most charming person around. Most of these things were taught by Jean-Luc himself as one of the top ranked thieves in the world. By the time Remy was 10 years old, he was an accomplished thief even though he still traded under his father's reputation. As a thief Remy operated under the alias, Gambit because of his high risk contracts and his unusual way in which he planned jobs, which always had unnecessary style and flare to them. Remy, like his adoptive father, had a taste for the big heists and were not in any job for the money or survival. They stole for the thrill, the challenge, the prestige, and to feed their ever growing legends in the thievery underworld. At 13 years old, Remy enters puberty and his powers reveal themselves for the first time. Like any good thief, Remy kept his secrets to himself. Not even his father knew of them. With a touch, he could make the smallest things explode with lethal force, be it a pebble, a dead leaf, or even a bug. He found he could also charge inanimate objects with his gaze if he was allowed focus and concentration. Remy had also found out he gained superhuman agility and his formally rigorous training sessions became easy enough that he would be bored with them. He started doing them blindfolded just to add some fun to the workouts. Finally, Remy found he had a certain charm ability that he could use in place of or along with his taught charm to persuade, seduce, and manipulate people. While it was not outright mind control, people that had their guard down were usually persuaded to do what Remy wanted. From 13 on, Remy would add stealing hearts to his list of thievery specialties. Remy and Jean-Luc operated all over the world for years. It was not until Remy's 15 year that his adoptive father disappeared while they were on a job, leaving Remy alone in Paris. Remy never gave up trying to find his father though and he spent months trying to look for Jean-Luc before Remy came across Xavier's path. Xavier helped locate Jean-Luc, who was being tortured by a hired hitman. The hitman was a revenge contract against Jean-Luc for a former job he pulled, where his need for elaborate thefts and the need to make himself known had finally gone too far when he put himself in the sights of the dangerous crime-lord, Kingpin. Once Xavier dealt with the hitman and Jean-Luc is recovering in a hospital, they speak about the school. Xavier stresses how it would be a safe haven not only from mutant persecution, but also from the people that would want both Remy and Jean-Luc dead. With the Kingpin on Jean-Luc's trail, he reluctantly agreed though Remy resisted at first. At the school, Remy struggles academically due to his unconventional and focused education. Due to his criminal past, Remy has a reputation as a badboy, which carries a certain lack of expectation, though Remy is not bothered by that. Every move he makes serves a deliberate purpose. He has style, brio, and is shrouded in mystery. This puts some of the men off to him but it makes him something of a heartthrob at the school among the girls, a fact that he takes advantage of often. Remy handles himself exceptionally well during the attack on the school. His superhuman reaction speed make him nearly impossible to hit so long as he avoids running in a straight line. His explosive power, along with the rest of his abilities was neutralized near the middle of the attack when he was caught in the path of a mutant inhibitor weapon. Despite this, he avoided being shot to death like most of his fellow students that was with when struck by the inhibitor beam. Once deprived of his powers, Remy took to using his staff and not only was able to defend himself but several students as well. Most except his on-again-off-again girlfriend, who was struck down early in the attack right in front of him. During the funeral, Remy becomes determined to become an X-Man over the guilt of his killed girlfriend. It was her dream to be an X-Man and since she is unable to live that life, he decided he would live it for her, to honor the memory of the girl he failed to honor while she was among the living.

Jean Grey rebootBorn in New York on June 3, 2002 to John and Elaine Grey, Jean spent the first few years of her life in Annadale-on-Hudson, New York, where her father worked as a professor at the Bard College History Department. In 2005 at 3 years old, Jean saw her friend Annie Richardson, struck by a car when she had tried to cross the street to reach Jean at the local playground. Witnessing a graphic event like that was bad enough for the young Jean, but the stress also caused her powers to manifest and she not only saw her friend die but she felt everything Annie felt, heard everything Annie thought, and saw Annie's mind fragment as she slipped away into death. The event left Jean traumatized. During waking hours, she was catatonic and while she slept, she would be haunted by powerful nightmares that she would try to combat with her telekinesis. The imaginary phantoms were hostile so Jean's reactions were both powerful and desperate. After a few weeks of this seemingly paranormal activity, they contacted several people that might be able to help. From priests to psychiatrists. One such psychiatrist referred them to Dr. Charles Xavier after he came to the conclusion that she was a mutant. By this time, Dr. Xavier is known world-wide as the leading scientists on mutants and an accomplished psychiatrist in his own right. Over the course of a few days, Xavier was able to heal her mind. To Xavier and Jean however, years had passed in the realm he had taken her to fix her mind, the Astral Plane. She awoke with a maturity level of a 10 year old, despite the fact that she was still physically only 3. Xavier had also heavily restricted her access to her powers in order for her to get used to them. The strength level of her telekinesis only matched her physical strength and her telepathy was reduced to only being able to read surface thoughts. Dr. Xavier had no trouble at all convincing Jean's parents to allow her to attend the school he had thought up after helping her recover. After a year, he had the school built and he sent for Jean. The Grey family came out to Winchester and Dr. Xavier was met with universal approval from the Greys. Jean proved to be an exceptional student both academically and in the training of how to use her powers. Having an eidetic memory and a powerful thirst for knowledge and the desire for challenge quickly put her beyond most children her age. Over the years, she was introduced to new students. First Scott, then Warren, and finally Bobby. All were in her class. Several other younger students came to the school and finally, she met with Hank. Jean became close with all 4 of the boys in her class. Scott and Warren were romantic interests. Though she casually dated them both, she had true feelings for Scott. His reserved nature made it hard to build something with, which is why she was also dating Warren. Bobby was like the little brother she never had and who always managed to get her and Hank into some kind of silly adventure that would usually result in detention. Of all the students in her class, only Hank was her intellectual superior. Mostly they were at about the same level but when it came to the sciences, Hank was on another level entirely. This created in them, a friendly and loving rivalry as Jean was not the kind of person to bother with jealousy. She encouraged Hank to come out of his shell and explore his intellect. When Jean entered puberty, she had experienced an explosive increase in her power levels. So much power in fact, that Xavier had to double down the mental blocks just so she could regain some sense of control. Even with the new and improved mental blocks though, her power had increased so dramatically that she basically had to relearn how to use her powers. Simple tasks that she had previously mastered like tying a shoe or lifting a paper clip off of the ground would now result in the entire shoe being obliterated and the ground beneath the paper clip was pulverized and a 20 ft deep, 12 ft wide hole would replace it. Erik and Charles helped her control her power and after Xavier leaves, Erik begins training the students in tactical use of their powers and how to fight without them if they were ever stripped of them. During this time, Scott finally gains the confidence to admit his feelings for Jean and Warren backs off, satisfied with just being friends. Jean and Scott struggle through typical teenage relationship problems and occasionally break up, only to make up shortly after. On Jean's 17th birthday, Xavier returns to the school and while he did not approve of Erik's teaching methods initially, he admits that they have provided some pleasing results for all the students. Just weeks after Xavier's return, the school is attacked and Jean fights bravely. The mental blocks hindered her ability but she was able to force the blocks just enough that she had a surge in power. That is, until the humans employed their psychic dampeners, which took her out of the fight completely. The level of her power made the feedback mind-numbing and her inexperience with such pain crippled her. After the attack, Scott leaves the school with Erik and in her anger, Jean rejects him and ends their relationship. Her feelings for him dissolve completely when they encounter each other for the first time as enemies and he violently attacks her.

Ms. Marvel rebootCarol Susan Jane Danvers was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1984 to Joseph and Marie Danvers as the youngest of 3 children. Her older brothers were Joseph Jr and Stevie. She grew up just outside of Boston, 25 miles northeast of it in Rockport, where she lived in an extremely traditional family with conservative Christian values, a chauvinistic father, and passive mother. Carol was constantly defiant and resisted a Christian upbringing and focused on school with great success. Against her father's wishes, she even held a part-time job as a teenager. When she graduated from her high school alongside her older brothers, her only wish was to be able to attend college, so she could be the very best she was capable of being. Her father flatly refused permission to attend higher education and instead, put money towards her brother's education despite her being far more intelligent than either of them. Joseph Sr. insisted she find a man, marry, and settle down as he believed an unmarried woman was a burden to the family and a working woman was detrimental to society and traditional values. Carol took great offense to this mindset, not that she was against marriage, she was against being submissive. She was against being taken care of, spending her life in a kitchen and talking about clothes with other caged mothers, and in her own words, "Spending my life popping out kids like a Pez dispenser". She felt she was meant for greater things in life. Growing up in Rockport was hard for Carol. It was small, with a population of less than 7,500 people the entire time she lived there. Rockport is an artist and fishing town and Carol was neither. Not that she had anything against fishing, boats, or the ocean. She actually enjoyed all of those things, she just felt she was being limited to those enjoyments. As an early graduate, she was still underage, so she could not attend college against her family's wishes. What she did instead was work, hard and often, in order to save for college for when she turned 18. When Carol was not at work, she was expanding her mind with study. She often took books with her and hitchhiked the 19 miles to the Beverly Municipal Airport. A general utility airport filled with private planes, where she would watch the planes take off and land. She felt like the pilots were able to enjoy a freedom she had never known. She envied them a great deal. After a year, she had saved up a few thousand dollars and intended to start at a community college right away now that she had finally turned 18. However, on the day of her birthday, her father had found her stash of money under her mattress, as she was unable to have a bank account without a parent cosigner, and he donated it to their church. This was the last straw for Carol. She packed a bag and with that, left her parent's home without so much as a look backwards in the middle of the night. When she got to Bearskin Neck, which is a quaint little shopping strip within Rockport and the only place to spend money for miles, Carol wandered around for a bit, unsure of where she would sleep that night and still in a rage over what her father had done. She had no friends because she devoted all her time to work and study and any adult would just point her back home or worse, call her father to come collect her. So Carol was alone. She spent some time at the beach before coming back to strip, at which point she came across a little shop with some old recruiting posters for women in the Air Force. Slogans like, "No one comes close", "Aim high", "Do something amazing", and "Uno ab alto", which she knew was "One overall" from her independent study, her rage turned to drive and it burned with the excitement of having a future. The future or HER choice. She walked around the strip for the night and the next day, hitchhiked her way to Boston where she sought out the congressman that lived there. After intercepting him and having a very inspirational conversation, the congressman bought her breakfast and pulled some strings to get her into the Air Force Academy right away, and skipped months of paperwork and waiting. Once at the academy, Carol breezed right through it, especially flight training. It was very clear that she was a natural pilot and it was one of Carol's main points of pride as well as her gift for strategic military thinking and ability to think under pressure. She vastly outpaced her fellow cadets, which quickly earned her some fierce competition and jealousy. Eventually, things came to a head when she graduated early from training and started as an officer in the Air Force. 3 men from her class rushed the women's wing in the middle of the night and abducted her in what looked like a common hazing. Once she was away from prying eyes, they proceeded to violently beat her. Once they were frenzied from the beating they gave her, they tried to force themselves on her. 2 tore at her clothes while the last man readied himself. What they had not counted on though, was Carol's fighting spirit. She pulled a blade that she had always kept in her boot and killed the 2 yanking on her clothes before they even knew what had happened. The only remaining man was quick enough to start running but with his pants around his ankles, he didn't make it very far before Carol reached him. Due to the violent nature of their crime and the clear intent behind their actions, Carol was not held responsible for the deaths of the 3 men. They were the first lives Carol ever took and she was surprised at how little that rattled her. Carol quickly rose through the ranks until she had attained the rank of Colonel, where the CIA actively pursued recruiting her. She spent 2 years as one of their agents before her capture in Iran. There she endured regular torture at the hands of Taliban forces for information. She resisted for weeks. Even after realizing that the CIA had abandoned her, she refused to give into the enemy for even a moment of relief. Her relief came with her escape at the hands of Wolverine. SHIELD had sent him in specifically to facilitate her escape. Carol resigned from the CIA and Director Fury immediately requested her official application to SHIELD. Director Fury had been keeping track of Carol for years, from the moment she had showed promise in the Air Force Academy. Once the CIA abandoned her, Fury seized his moment to draft her into his organization. Wolverine saw firsthand her determination and requested her as his partner. During their time together, they became close friends, family even. Under Wolverine's teachings, Carol became a much more effective killer. During one of their missions, Carol was abducted by aliens despite Wolverine's best efforts. The alien was a member of the Kree, an evolutionarily stagnant species. In an attempt to reintroduce evolution into their species, they genetically modified Carol's DNA with that of Kree with the intent to make her a breeder. She was able to escape however and in the process, freed a Kree officer that was being executed for showing compassion during her abduction. Disobeying an order is criminal enough to the Kree but to show compassion is equally detestable. She was able to return to Earth under her own power and the Kree she had freed ended up following her. His name is Mar-Vell. He was an "impure" Kree, a Kree born or a descendant of the first failed experiments to cross Kree and Human. Carol befriended Mar-Vell and came to the realization that she had powers that nearly matched his own. Once she became familiar with these powers, she decided to become a super hero, by the name of Warbird. Carol and Mar-Vell became close until his death to cancer a short time later. Already in a deep depression over her friend's death, she then gets word that Wolverine had gone missing during a mission. Feeling guilty for mourning the loss of Mar-Vell instead of being there for her partner, she set out for find him. This resulted in her capture as well at the hands of the Brood. The Brood found her modified genetics fascinating and further manipulated them before trying to implant her with a queen egg. The Brood overplayed their hand though as their new modifications endowed Carol with a healing factor that, after a major internal battle, killed the queen egg. After Carol was in control of herself once again, she realized that no one was watching her so she made her escape yet again. While making her way through the Brood compound, she quickly realized why she was of no concern to the Brood. They were busy collectively trying to subdue the escaped Wolverine. Carol joined the fight and together, they wiped out the Brood infestation on Earth. Even with this victory, Carol struggled with depression and self-isolation. She also fought with intense nightmares from her life-long violations against her. It is at this time that Carol fell into full-blown alcoholism. It became so severe, that Fury put her on paid suspension until further notice. Wolverine helped her through her dark time and when the attack on the school happened, she took it upon herself to head out and fight for the mutants. She arrived too late for the battle and wanted to help with the cleanup but was refused by the surviving mutants. Carol asked to be put back on active duty to partner with Wolverine at the school. Seeing this as a way to keep Carol out of the bottle, Fury agreed.

Captain America rebootSteven Rogers was born July 4th, 1915 in Brooklyn, New York City, to a destitute Irish couple, Joseph and Sarah Rogers. Joseph was part of the 69th Infantry Regiment during this time and saw the birth of his boy and even was able to spend two years helping raise Steve. However in October of 1917, Joseph received his orders and was shipped out to France as part of the 42nd Rainbow Division of the American Expeditionary Force. He fought bravely at Rouge Bouquet, Champagne, Château-Thierry, St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne. Due to the unfavorable terrain and lack of flank support, the 69th suffered heavy casualties, Joseph included. He died fighting the 5th Army of the German Empire on November 11, 1918, just before the German defeat and 4 days before the end of the war. Sarah raised Steve with a firm set of values, adopted from her husband and her deep pride of the man that he was. She passionately felt that Steve was to become as good a man as his father if it were the last thing she did. These values consisted of hard work, honesty, integrity, pride, and above all else, the sense of right and wrong and justice. As a child, Steve was sickly, small, and had only an average intellectual mind. There were only two things Steve did well; one was art, the other was standing up to bullies so he could get beat up. Both things he did daily. Because of the way he was raised, Steve never feared the fights or even losing. He feared letting his parents down by being afraid. Steve feared giving into bullies and accepting his place as a small nothing that can do nothing for the country that he loved more than he loved himself. Aside from his mother, there was one bright light in Steve's life. That was his best friend and Army brat, James "Bucky" Buchanan Barnes. A boy with just as much fight as Steve but the muscle to back it up. Bucky often could be found saving Steve from several bullies in the school-yard. One year into the Great Depression, both of Bucky's parents were killed in an automobile accident. Bucky had no family and unfortunately, Steve's mother could not afford to take him in, but what he did have was one of his father's war buddies, who took Bucky to live with him at West Point in Orange County, New York. Living on a military base, Bucky was insulated from the hardships of the Depression but he and Steve kept in contact through mail and periodic visits, when he could manage it. The Depression however, weighed heavily on Steve and his mother. Two years into the Depression, Sarah succumbed to pneumonia. This left the 14 year old Steve alone to fend for himself. He spent a few years in horribly run and abusive foster homes, being savagely beaten regularly for his food and supplies from the other orphans. Eventually, Steve learned how to plan for the encounters and learned to outfox the bullies. That was Steve's routine for the years before adulthood. Fight bullies, outfox bullies, and develop his artistry skill. In early 1939, Steve was just over 23 and trying to become a professional artist, but when WWII started, Steve set that aside and tried to join Bucky in enlisting. Because he was sickly and a runt, he was denied. Ashamed that America didn't see him as worthy, Steve was in an emotional limbo for a few weeks until he saw footage of the Nazis in Europe. At this point, Steve was determined to get into the war if it was the last thing he ever did. He enlisted five more times in five different cities, under five different aliases, being denied every single time. This gained the attention of Dr. Abraham Erskine. Dr. Erskine offered Steve a chance to join the war and fight for freedom, which Steve scooped up without question. Dr. Erskine took a liking to Steve's character and selected him for the US version of the super soldier program, a program which he had been the head of in Germany before he defected to the US. Steve spends an entire year preparing for the project, training physically and mentally. During this time, Bucky was already in the fight unofficially as a spy and covert ops, as America had not yet officially entered the war. On December 7th, 1941, the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred and the president ordered Steve's training to be cut short and the project started right away. The experiment takes several days to prepare for, where Steve is kept sedated while various surgeries are performed. At this point, it is do or die as the various surgeries performed on him left him paralyzed and slowly dying. The experiment was a success. Not only a success but a grand success; the results were much higher than anticipated and his recovery from the damage done to his body took only one to three days to heal, depending on what the surgery had damaged. The spinal damage had taken only six days to heal. After healing up, Steve was asked by the president to a celebration dinner. Steve wanted to get in the war to back up his brothers but the president demanded pomp and circumstance. He wanted to parade the first super soldier around to boost morale after Pearl Harbor. At the celebration, a Hydra/Nazi soldier infiltrated and murdered Dr. Erskine. Enraged, Steve pursued the murderer, chasing the man down on foot while the Hydra agent fled in his car. When Steve cut the agent off, the agent tried to run Steve down. Steve reacted by picking up the car and smashing it down into the street. When Steve tried to question the Hydra agent, the agent killed himself. Initially, the government tried to keep Steve from the action as the secret of Dr. Erskine's serum was locked into Steve's blood. They had him selling war bonds but eventually, word got to Steve that Bucky had been captured from his friend and English soldier, Peggy Carter. Steve led a one-man assault on the Nazi base and freed the Allied captives, including Bucky. At this point, Steve requests permission to actively fight in the war. The government reluctantly agrees and Steve makes several major contributions to the war effort. He is responsible for fracturing Hydra from the Axis Powers and his contributions led to the Axis military defeat in April 30th, 1945. Japan refused to accept defeat however and the president specifically asks Rogers to intervene in order to prevent him from having to resort to catastrophic means to end the Japanese war. Steve readily agrees to not only protect America, but to protect Japan as well as he had already been briefed on the works of the Manhattan Project. However, during a mission against Hydra that would have crippled America, Rogers is seemingly killed. More than half a century later, Rogers is found in the North Atlantic ocean, encased in a block of ice by a group of Arctic Climate Environmental Researchers as they were taking samples. He was confiscated by SHIELD immediately. While removing the ice, SHIELD realized that Steve was still alive and took steps to fully thaw him. Once he wakes up, the state of the nation drives Steve into becoming a recluse, refusing missions and rarely, if ever leaving his apartment in Brooklyn. However, once the attack on the school happens just a few months after his resurrection, Steve vows never to let his people down ever again and holds himself personally responsible for the death of those children. Steve joins SHIELD's Avengers Initiative and makes protecting mutants one of his major priorities.

Shadowcat rebootKatherine Anne Pryde was born in Deerfield, Illinois to Carmen and Theresa Pryde of jewish descent in 2003. Her grandfather, Samuel Prydeman was held in a concentration camp during WWII. Kitty spends her youth living an uneventful, normal childhood. The only exception is that she is an advanced student. By the time she reaches 13 years old, she is working her way through her junior year in high school. It was at this time that she started getting migraines. These migraines would come intermittently and with increasing intensity over the four months that she had them. Towards the end of the four months, she was getting nose bleeds with them and her parents feared the worst, yet nothing dangerous would show up on the tests. At the end of the four months, her migraines had reached a climax and then finally, it abruptly stopped. For a moment, Kitty was relived. It was the first moment in months that it was completely gone. The elation she felt almost made her cry. Her happiness was short-lived though because at that point, she started to fall. Through her clothes, through her floor in her upstairs bedroom, right past her mother cooking in the kitchen, and even through the floor of her house and into the Earth itself. Her mother was left traumatized while Kitty was lost within the Earth for days. Once panic subsided, she quickly realized that she didn't need to breathe, eat, or sleep while in her current state. She was falling through rock, water, oil, and molten. While she was unable to see within the Earth until she reached the molten, she could feel the differences in density of the objects she was falling through, which helped her identify what she was drifting through. Eventually, she realized she could control her weight and density selectively. She could make the tip of her fingers solid while keep the rest of her body phased and she could decrease her weight so stop herself from falling. With this realization, she was able to make hand and footholds for herself and begin her climb back out of the depths of the Earth. Five days had passed from the moment she first phased until the moment she saw the sky again. When she reached the surface, she was shocked to discoer she was not in Oregon. She contacted her parents after stealing clothes from a shopping mall and her father came to retrieve her and bring her home. When she was home, she explained her condition to her parents. Her father and mother encouraged her to hide her power and felt ashamed that their daughter was a mutant. Believing herself to be unloved, Kitty sought out answers and a place to be accepted. She found the school. After her first year of attendance at the school with only sporadic contact from her parents to make sure she was healthy, her father came to his senses and realized she was still his daughter. He came to visit her and begged for her forgiveness. Forgiveness that Kitty readily gave. By her second year, the topic of Kitty caused too much friction, which cumulated in a rift forming between them and eventually led to their divorce. Kitty's father moved to Manhattan to be closer to his daughter, where he became an outspoken person on mutant rights. Contact with her mother all but ceased completely after the divorce. Sometime before the attack on the school, Carmen is attacked while he is speaking out against an anti-mutant protest. He is not critically injured though and once he recovers, he doubles his efforts as his resolve is is only strengthened be the attack. While he does truly believe in mutant rights, the real motive behind his aggressive pursuit of mutant rights is because he still feels crushing guilt over abandoning his daughter for an entire year, just because he was afraid of her mutant nature. The attack on him felt like it was part of his repentance. During the attack on the school, Kitty was untouchable. She discovered though, that she could phase to protect others as well as hurt others. Specifically, that she could destroy a person just by phasing them into something else, such as the ground. She grabs several humans during the attack, phases them into the Earth and then releases them, which fuses the matter to them on an atomic level. Kitty displays strong leadership potential with the students not trained for combat and organizes the ones that try to fight. Under her command, she is able to save many lives. Her father however, is critically wounded. By the time Kitty is aware of his injury, he is too far gone to be saved. He spends his last moments telling her how proud he is of her and that he wished he had time to see her grow up and have a family of her own. He also asks to be buried as close to her as possible, so in a way, he would always be near her. She honors his request and has him buried at the school with all the other mutant children. After the attack, Wolverine hand picks her as leader of the reformed X-Men because he sees in her a strength that can handle the burden of leadership. She does well as a leader but she personally struggles with learning hand to hand combat. To her credit, Wolverine intentionally pushes her beyond her physical limits and eventually, she does actually adapt and becomes a competent fighter in her own right.

Iceman rebootBobby was born late December 2002 in Seattle, Washington to parents William Robert Drake and mother Madeline Beatrice Bass-Drake. Bobby was given the name Rober Louis Drake after his father and late uncle, Louis. He spent his entire childhood happy and mostly uneventful. Even when his powers emerged, he felt comfortable enough with his family to tell them. Not only were they accepting, but Bobby's father thought his ability to create snow was awesome and often would encourage Bobby to create mischief with it. So carefree and happy Bobby was that he even used his powers in public one dry Christmas, to give snow to some neighbor's children when he was 14. While the children were delighted, the neighborhood community became angry. Bobby's father confronted the mob that had gathered outside his house to talk them down. He wasn't taking it seriously though because in his mind, it was not an issue to get violent over. He just assumed they were overreacting and was trying to laugh the situation off. His laughter only angered the mob further and they attacked him and Bobby. Both tried to defend themselves but neither were fighters and were slightly undersized. As far as his powers were concerned, Bobby could only form snow at the time, so it was not very effective in defending them. After Madeline took them to the hospital, they decided to move to San Diego, California. Their hope was that if Bobby's powers were revealed again, being in the most liberal state in the country would mean no one would care. In San Diego, William's playful method of parenting continued to encourage Bobby to play with his powers, albeit much more carefully, much to Madeline's frustration. Her frustration only caused William to encourage Bobby to enjoy life even more, though he still stressed for Bobby to be careful. William always looked for the laugh in every situation. Even when telling the story of their attack in Seattle, he would highlight the funny parts of the story. Like how Bobby plastered the mob with snow from head to toe so it looked like they were attacked by snowmen. In truth, William was terrified for Bobby but he didn't want his son to feel that fear, to grow up in fear. So he tried to parent in a way that while Bobby was aware of the danger he lived in, he would not be afraid of it. They lived in San Diego for a few months before Xavier knocked on their door. Bobby initially resisted but his parents felt it would be good for him to be around others like him and they also felt he would be much safer. Bobby struggled at school academically and in the control of his power. He was always more interested in being a class clown, playing video games, and talking to girls than he was of the upcoming test or how to take a person down with or without his powers. So when Bobby was put on the X-Men, he felt like he was always lagging behind superstars like Jean, Scott, Warren, and obviously Hank. During Erik's teachings, he did manage some progress but it was slow and Erik couldn't understand how someone with so much potential would develop so very slowly. Bobby is an Omega mutant, like Jean. But unlike Jean, he didn't constantly struggle to contain his power. Quite the opposite. He struggled to do things with his power that should have been too easy. He did eventually learn to protect himself with dense snow padding and eventually, ice armor and how to form simple ice structures. By the time Hank came to the school, Bobby's progress slowed even further because his time was devoted to bringing Hank out of his person prison. During the attack, Bobby fought as hard as he could with his limited powers but he was not very effective with balls of ice against guns and advanced weaponry and Bobby was fatally wounded with the bullets whizzing around the school. As Bobby lay there dying and witnessing his friends being slaughtered, his panic forced him to make a desperate reach into himself and pull something with more substance from the depths; to reach new heights with his powers. He succeeded. He turned his entire body to ice, not just ice armor, his body was highly dense ice and when he would get shot, he would just form new parts from the moisture in the air around him. He tried to avoid killing but every time he let someone live, they would just try to kill more when they would free themselves from an ice prison. He made a choice and it was a choice that hit him particularly hard as a boy that has lived his whole life just wanting everyone to be happy and free of pain. He had to protect his friends though, so he started to freeze his enemy, ending their lives. After the attack, Bobby wanted to remain on the X-Men with his best friends Jean and Hank and with his new levels of power, he was given permission to do so by Wolverine, since as Iceman, Bobby would be nearly impossible to kill.

Cyclops rebootScott Slim Summers was born in Anchorage, Alaska to U.S. Air Force pilot Christopher Summers and his wife Katherine in early 2002. He spent his early years around planes and helping his mother take care of his little brother. When Scott was 7 years old, the family was flying home from a vacation on a commercial plane when an unknown aircraft, piloted by Sinister, attacked the plane killing the pilots. Christopher took over piloting in an attempt to find an emergency landing zone while Katherine, knowing that survival rates are higher in commercial aircrafts for the rear seats of a plane, took her children to the back of the plane and strapped them in. Once they were secure, she went to go check on Christopher. Just as she reached the front of the plane, Sinister came in for a second attack, killing Christopher and mortally wounding Katherine. With the plane going down, Katherine stumbled through the turbulence of the plane's rapid descent to Earth until she got back to her kids. She looked them in the eyes one last time, told them how much she loved them, and hugged them for as long as she was able. The stress of his mother dying, the force of being beat around in his seat from the falling plane, and the chaos and panic from the passengers as the plane went down activated Scott's powers and just before they fell into a snowy chasm, he blew the front half of the plane apart. Scott and Alexander were 2 of the 9 people that survived the crash and they stayed near the wreckage until rescued. From that moment, Scott refused to open his eyes and claimed to be blinded by the crash. He refused to even allow doctors to check his eyes for fear of blasting them into nothingness. When doctors tried to force him to open his eyes so they could check him, he fought back fiercely, causing them to sedate him. They assumed the crash had severely traumatized him and since they had no relatives, the Summers brothers became property of the state. Alex was sent to an orphanage and was adopted almost immediately. Scott however, was sent to Anchorage Community Mental Health Services Inc, in Anchorage, where he spent the next several years of his life under the careful experimentation of one of the doctors there, Sinister masquerading as a attentive physician. Scott spends two years under the sadistic hand of Sinister before the acute anxiety and uncontrollable nightmares caused Scott to plan his escape. Even though he was blind, his power granted him an amazing ability of spacial awareness. While he could not see in any sense of the word, he was aware of his surroundings. This ability, that was unknown even to Sinister, allowed him to execute his escape plan perfectly. No one bothers to pay much attention to the blind child that never causes any trouble and keeps to himself. No one expects much of anything out of him, not even Sinister. After his escape, Scott makes his way to the coast, where he finds a ferry bound for the lower states. He stows away on it and once in Washington, he slowly makes his way south to warmer climates. Xavier finds Scott and knowing that he is a homeless child, offers him sanctuary at his school in New York. At the school, Scott quickly falls in love with Jean, despite never having seen her. No one knows any way to teach him how to control his power, nor are they aware of any way to disperse the energy released by the optic blasts, so Scott remains blind to the world. What Erik does teach Scott though, and what he excels at, is H2H and strategy, particularly ones that require complicated calculations. Scott also quickly takes to academic schooling, showing mathematical brilliance. His spacial awareness ability is suspected to be a direct influence on his ability to immediately know the answers to even the most difficult math problems, his uncanny accuracy in physical combat, and his precise tactical mind. Even though he has this spacial awareness, Scott is still blind. He does not see with his ability like Daredevil can with his powers, Scott simply "knows" where things are and how to interact with them. Very quickly, Scott outstrips Erik's range of ability so Erik ends up bringing in professional martial arts instructors to keep Scott challenged. For several years, Scott leads the X-Men against the Brotherhood and their terrorist plots against humanity, even though he is without his sight. At 17 years of age, the post arrived with a package addressed to Scott. In it was a pair of red sunglasses and a beautifully crafted note that only said, "The gift of sight". Curiosity overcame their suspicion and they tested the assumed purpose of the glasses and to everyone's surprise, the shades worked perfectly in diffusing Scott's power. For the first time in 8 years, Scott could see without destroying everything in his field of vision. The only drawback was that everything was cast in shades of red. Once they analyzed the shades, they crafted a combat visor for him, giving him a distinct "cycloptic" look, which caused him to change his codename name from Basilisk to Cyclops. During the attack on the school, Scott fights valiantly and saves quite a few lives but he is limited to non-lethal attacks as per Erik's reluctant urgings, so Scott was unable to use his powers directly against his aggressors. Once Xavier is killed and Erik starts killing by the hundreds, Scotts follows suit. His power is very effective and no one has any way to fight back against the unmeasurable force and not a single mutant life is lost once Erik, Scott and the Brotherhood employ lethal force. Many students choose to leave with Erik. Scott is not committed to the idea of war but he loves Erik like a father and wants to ensure Erik does not lose his way and cross the line from being a freedom fighter and savior, into being a madman and a monster. So Scott leaves with Erik, even though he knows Jean will not understand or forgive him. He is in love with Jean but he places the survival of his people above his or even Jean's personal wants and desires.

Hulk rebootBruce was born in Dayton, Ohio to atomic scientist Dr. Brian Banner and Rebecca. Brian came from an abusive family himself and swore he would never burdon himself with children. Unfortunately he accidentally got his college girlfriend pregnant in 1977 and in 1978, Robert Bruce Banner was born. Brian's violent past, constant failures at work, alcohol abuse, and extremely jealous nature led him to constantly abuse both Bruce and Rebecca. All Brian wanted was to find a renewable energy source. He had no interest in family. When Bruce was a child, his staggering intellect earned him even more abuse from his father as well as from the kids at school since he was also sickly and small. Eventually, the abuse peaked and Rebecca died right in front of Bruce in one of her regular beatings. Bruce would have ben killed as well for being a witness but police arrived in response to the neighbors calling about the Banner's domestic abuse. Bruce spent some time with his cousin, Jennifer Walters after that and she took a liking to Bruce's quiet and quirky sense of humor. But even as as child, she could tell that Bruce was damaged. This only made her even more fond of him. To her, he was a hurt puppy that only needed to be loved to fix him up. But Bruce's aunt saw something else entirely. She saw a deeply disturbed child that had semi-sadistic tendencies. He would collect bugs and small animals and perform crippling experiments on them. The last straw came when he decided he was going to retaliate against the boys at school that constantly tortured him. He created a surprisingly sophisticated bomb and planted it at his elementary school. The explosion killed no one, as it was intended to, but it did injure the bullies badly. The feds came in at that point to haul him off to one of their "care facilities" and his aunt and uncle were only too happy to give him over to them. Only Jennifer mourned his leaving. Bruce spent the rest of his childhood under the care of the government. His brilliant mind was used to devise extremely effective and creative weapons. His designs were not for war like Stark Industries and later Stark Enterprises. Bruce's designs were more "personal" than that. Assassination-type weapons. He also had a fondness for biological warfare, which inspired him to pursue several genetics degrees under the government's careful observation. Eventually, his expertise put him in the super soldier program, located on Baker Island, where he made leaps over previous work to recreate the super soldier serum that created Captain America. He became obsessed with Dr. Erskine's formula. So much so that he dropped all other projects to recreate the formula. Since Erskine never had documented anything about the formula in order to increase his value to the government, all Bruce had to work with was archived samples of Captain America's blood and the destroyed vita-ray machine, the use of which was carefully regulated. Even though Bruce was head of the project, even he only had limited access to the blood samples and equipment. This means that the large majority of Bruce's work was guesswork. Even if the vita ray machine was functional, there was no way to measure the output of energy as there were no devices that even could detect the mysterious energy. This caused Bruce a great deal of frustration so as a way to blow off some steam, he started playing with sections of the formula that they could decode and combined it with gamma radiation. An unstable form of energy but one that had an extremely high energy output. Eventually he altered and adapted several key segments of the known formula and came up with an unpredictable formula of his own. It is around this time that he was introduced to Betty Ross. He grew to have an obsession with her that was only rivaled by his obsession with the super soldier formula. She however, did not share the attraction. She was attracted to brilliance but only when it was coupled with success, something Bruce was not known for on the super soldier project. So Bruce watched as she flirted and struck up an affair with one of his leading scientists, Dr. Hank Pym. When Pym left Bruce's team to pursue his own, very promising research into his "giant man" formula back in the states, Betty left with him. Because he considered Bruce something of a friend, Hank told Bruce that unfortunately, Bruce's project was being shut down because he was unable to produce a viable formula with his research. Bruce was unable to surpress all this in the short span it all came down on him. Failing on his project, a man that he considered a lesser intellect becoming the lead scientist of the super soldier program, Betty not only being repulsed by him but also having wild and extremely loud sex with this same "lesser" man in the very next bunk to his. It was all a house of cards and it was falling apart on him. He exploded in his lab, breaking equipment, tossing papers, ruining equations he had worked on for years. Finally, he came to his little side project, his own personal version of the super soldier program. Without even thinking of the possible and very likely lethal side effects, he ran into the Cyclotron lab, calibrated it to the needed levels to produce excessive amounts of gamma rays, cranked the particle accelerator to maximum, and broke the controls. He then climbed inside the cyclotron and injected himself with his formula. His equations had calculated that his formula was extremely unstable but that it produced vastly superior power output to Erskine's formula was proven to produce. The poorly thought out experiment resulted in a small nuclear explosion inside the research facility, killing almost everyone inside immediately. Those that survived the explosion were killed and eaten by a mindless Bruce, now changed into a giant grey monster. Once his rampage on the mile long island was over and he became himself once again, SHIELD flew in and arrested him. He was given the choice of working exclusively for SHIELD as one of their scientists, or spend the rest of his days so drugged up, that he would not be able to form a coherent thought. Bruce chose work. SHIELD still kept him sedated but not so much that he was unable to use his intellect to their ends. Just enough so that, by their estimates, the Hulk would be kept in check. SHIELD took over all the super soldier programs and Bruce was given his project back under strict orders to only pursue Erskine's formula. Pym's research team was also brought onto location under SHIELD. The next few years were mostly uneventful. Pym's project proved to be a success and he enjoyed the pleasures offered by Betty as well as his wife and Bruce continued to meet dead end after dead end. His life was defined by failure except the Hulk. He considered that a gleaming success but he was under too much control to enjoy it. When Captain America was recovered, Bruce felt like he had his chance at completing the formula. He could monitor how the formula works in a living host. It was a very exciting time for him as he would finally be able to prove to everyone how smart he is. SHIELD put together the Avengers, which included Hank, his wife Janet van Dyne, and Captain America himself among others. Shortly after, Betty finally exploded at Bruce for his crush and mocked his pathetic nature. After she left, he injected himself with a sample of Captain America's blood. The result was a vastly superior Hulk than previously encountered so the safeties that SHIELD had put in place proved ineffective against the new version of the Hulk. SHIELD and the Avengers battled Hulk across the states until the final battlefield in Ohio. Hulk had made his way there for a specific reason, to exact revenge on his imprisoned father. Hulk brutally murdered several of the convicts, including his father before he was finally subdued. Bruce was not present during the attack on the school. He was located in a Hulk prison back on Baker Island, where he would not be an immediate threat to anyone as they have no way to actually kill Hulk. In this prison, he is kept comatose with a specialized cocktail.

Angel rebootWarren Kenneth Worthington III was born in Centerport, New York to Warren Sr. and Kathryn in 2001. The Worthington family is an elite aristocrat family and the parents are CEO and President of the very rich and powerful Worthington Enterprises. Though the Worthington family is considered one of the wealthiest families in the world, Warren III did not necessarily have an easy life. His parents made sure that he grew up with a sense of entitlement and a vision of building an empire for the history books, but they made him earn everything he ever had. It was their goal to make sure the family business remained strong and that was done through the succession of Worthington sons through the years. Warren was arrogant with a keen wit. He excelled in business and economics and he was painfully aware of how physically attractive he was. Warren shunned those that were less fortunate or less attractive than he liked. In his opinion, those that were poor or ugly were too lazy to change their situations and therefore, they were not people he wanted to associate with. This made Warren a bit of a bully, though he would not go out of his way to insult someone, he did not hide his disdain for less fortunate individuals. Warren attended the Far Hills Country Day School in Far Hills, NJ and was a top performer there. For middle school, he spent his young teen years in the Phillips Exeter Academy where he developed an extremely strong business savvy and started several minor business projects that he sold off to investors for millions. All this in preparation for his true goal of taking over for his father and mother and growing the international conglomerate that is his inheritance. During his life at academy, Warren started experiencing minor back problems that grew into very painful back problems, yet his pride kept him from visiting doctors. Once his fat percentage plummeted inexplicably, he decided to finally visit a physician. Doctors were shocked to find that Warren had two very large tumors growing on his back. A series of tests were done and the tumors were found to be benign. However, much to Warren’s dismay, the tumors were also inoperable. There was a 100 percent certainty that removing the tumors would result in his paralysis. So the doctors instead recommended treatment. Doctors were shocked again to find that the treatment had no effect at all and the tumors only grew in size. Eventually, the growths were large enough that Warren could no longer mask them and he dropped out of school. His parents didn’t know what to do with him so they purchased an estate for him, where he would spend the rest of his 9th grade year alone. One day during Warren’s 10th grade year, a man he had never seen before had come to his door asking to have a conversation with him. Fearing that his now enormous hunchback would be judged as he so judged those in the past, Warren refused to grant the man access. A few days later, the man returned, again asking for nothing but a conversation. Again Warren refused, insisting that he would call the authorities. Every three days this man would come, politely knock, and even after having been rejected and insulted, he would maintain his polite reserve, leave and return like clockwork after a three day absence. Warren eventually started looking forward to seeing this man. Even though he flatly refused the offer for a conversation, after a few weeks, he very much wanted to say yes. Then after a month of this routine that Warren came to depend on, the visits stopped. The third day came but there was no man at his door. Then four days came and went and Warren could not get the man out of his head. He wondered what had happened to the old man. He began to fear that the geezer would not return and that fear turned to rage because he knew that he should have accepted the offer for conversation. After a week of familiar isolation, Warren heard a knock on his front door. Without even asking who it was, he swung the door open to see the same man he had peeked at through the peephole for weeks. Warren asked if he could still have that conversation. The man was Charles Xavier and he told Warren exactly what he was; a mutant. He offered Warren a place at his school to be around other youths like him. He could be around people that would accept him and would not find his circumstances abhorrent. After thinking about it for a bit, Warren agreed and abandoned the exile that his parents had set up for him. Warren loved being at the school. Xavier was right, no one judged him harshly because of his giant tumors. In fact, many wondered what it meant for him as he had not displayed any kind of power. Finally, half way into his 10th grade year, something happened. He began a molting phase. The tumors on his back broke open to reveal four curious-looking arms. Two very large arms and a smaller set just underneath. Each arm had three digits, each with its own claw. The main digit on the large wings had a giant talon-like claw. The arms seemed unusual at first but soon, it became clear what they were. After a few days, downy feathers sprang from them. They were wings. A few weeks later, flight feathers grew in. The two large wings are soaring wings meant for high altitude and slow, long flights. The second two wings are elliptical wings meant for extremely tight maneuverability. When both wings are used in unison, incredible speeds are attained. He also developed telescopic vision and a nictitating membrane to protect his eyes as he flies. Though his bones became hollow, like birds his bones are far more dense than comparative mammals, allowing him to maintain his height to weight ratio. While at the school, his parents are viciously murdered. Though Warren suspects his uncle, Burtram Worthington, he has no way to prove it. The shock of his parent’s murders made Warren put away what was left of his vanity and he became a well liked individual at the school. He came to the realization that some things are out of control of people and they sometimes can’t choose, nor change their circumstances. It is this newfound maturity that allows people to get close to him and help him through the deaths of his parents. During the attack on the school, Warren is gunned down during one of his diving attacks. His imminent death caused a stress that he had never dealt with before and it triggered a secondary mutation in him and his wound instantly heals.

Emma Frost rebootEmma Frost was born to Winston and Hazel Frost in September of 2002 as the youngest daughter of three. A year after her birth she had a brother, Christian. Life was difficult living in the wealthy Frost family. Winston constantly pitted his daughters against one another, in order to find the strongest Frost child. Emma was young, but from as early as seven years old, she was expected to perform as well as her older sisters, the oldest of whom is twice her age, in acts of deception and rivalry. Hazel, seeing her daughters torn apart and developing a deep hatred for one another, retreated to heavy painkillers and spent most of her days in a stupor. Emma did love her younger brother though, who was rejected by his father for being born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta Type I. She often spent her time with him when she was avoiding her father or sisters. Her sister Cordelia also kept to herself but was deeply affected by the stresses put on her from her father and took to cutting herself and rebelling against her father, eventually leading to her running away from home and becoming a very successful stripper at Black Widows Gothic Strip Revue in San Francisco, CA. Emma’s oldest sister Adrienne, was ruthless, violent, and passionately eager to win her father’s approval. To beat Emma, she would often abuse her or worse, attack Christian in order to get Emma to submit to her every whim. Emma struggled at school. She was not below average in intellect but she was viciously bullied by her peers for being a Frost and for being less than attractive. With every submission to her sister and with every snicker and bathroom bullying from her fellow students, Emma grew more angry and callous. The time eventually came where she could no longer take it and decided that she would never be beneath anyone ever again. For her bullies, she followed and was able to capture evidence of drug use on campus, which led to their expulsion from their school. Those that were not even involved were charged due to carefully tampered evidence. The thrill of victory over these children was the best thing Emma had ever felt, especially when she confronted them and revealed it was her that had ruined their lives. This emboldened Emma to turn her focus onto her oldest sister, now a college student. However, try as she might, Adrienne was too skilled in manipulation and strategic deception to fall to the young Emma. That is, until Emma’s powers first emerged. They started small at first, only being able to read surface thoughts. But that was enough to track her sister and documented every evil deed, every act of treachery, manipulation, and injustice. She was able to compile a volume of crippling data on her sister. The least of which was a recording of her every sexual encounter, most of which were with every one of her college professors. When Emma felt she had gathered enough damming information, she gave her sister a copy of everything. For the first time in her life, Emma saw fear from her sister. When Adrienne threatened to retaliate by hurting Christian, Emma removed that weakness herself by pushing her brother down a flight of stairs, never once having taken her eyes off of her sister. Adrienne had finally realized that she no longer had any power over Emma, whom had turned her heart as cold as her surname. When Adrienne broke down and begged for mercy, Emma refused to grant it. Only partially out of revenge but mostly out of genuine indifference. Even after all the years of abuse from her sister and father, she had not become like them. Instead, Emma had become something much more dangerous. Emma didn’t hurt people because she liked it, unlike her sister. Emma hurt others because that is what had to be done to keep her on the top of the proverbial mountain and to keep people at arm’s length. Everything was done for very specific and well thought out reasons. After Emma released the information publicly and Adrienne was expelled from school, she fell out of favor with her father, who now praised Emma for her cunning and cold ferocity. He offered Emma, only 14 years old, future control of his entire estate. This was unbearable for Adrienne so she took matters into her own hands. Emma was aware of her sister’s murderous intentions but she refused to allow fear to grip her. Instead, she confronted her sister before her plan could be executed. They fought. Because Emma’s powers were still undeveloped, she was unable to overcome Adrienne’s superior strength and was knocked unconscious. When she woke, she was in complete blackness. She was surrounded by silky padding and she could feel that there was someone next to her. Someone who was not thinking. Someone who was dead. She was no fool, Emma realized she had been buried alive without even the mercy of a flashlight. She burned with rage. She knew she was too weak to escape and that the air was being used up with every passing second. She did not know if it was day or night but she was unable to sense anyone close by. The only company she had was that of her silent, decaying companion next to her. Things were starting to become desperate for her so she reached out harder than she ever had before with her power. Eventually, she felt the groundskeeper. Her mental vision was clouded by the lack of air but she ignored it and pushed through. She was not sure how to communicate with him but she clawed at his consciousness with her mind and eventually mental claws found purchase. She pulled him towards her. Fully in control of his body, she made him dig. He had no tools so he dug with his bare hands. She reached out further and found more people. They all desperately came to her and bit into the ground with nothing but their hands. They clawed at the ground until they bled, until they broke bones. At her command, they ignored the pain and pressed on until they found her prison. They beat on it with broken and bloody hands and feet relentlessly until the solid oak casket started to give and still she pressed them. They broke through and she was able to breathe fresh air finally. The relief she felt was underscored by her new sense of true power. Control over people. She made them help her out of her coffin and led them back to her home. Once at home, she set her slaves on her sister, their bloody, useless hands pawed at her and they bit at her like a scene out of a zombie film. Adrienne died cursing Emma and swearing to haunt her from the grave. Feeling that there was nothing that she wanted at the Frost residence anymore, she released her control over the badly injured humans and walked out of her home, leaving them wailing in agony. While on her own, Emma forced a wealthy child molester to sign over his entire estate to her and then to take his own life. Unbeknownst to her, this man was a member of an elite underground crime organization, known as the Hellfire Club. His death earned her the attention of the Inner Circle and they sent one of their Bishops Sebastian Shaw, to investigate. Emma wasted no time on him and immediately tried to assault his mind. Over the past few months, she had become powerful but she was still unskilled and Shaw was trained to resist. He subdued her but instead of killing her, he felt she could be an asset and offered the young girl a proposal. Help him get revenge for the politically driven murder of his wife by the current Black King of the Inner Circle and he would offer her the position of White Queen. It was an offer she could not refuse, both because it was an enticing offer of power and because she knew she was currently at his mercy. She accepted. After she helped Shaw murder the entire Inner Circle, they appointed new members to the Inner Circle and broadened their horizons to include the control of mutants. Eventually, their exploits earned the Hellfire Club the attention of the X-Men and they battled. Even though they were enemies, Emma felt for the first time, a teenage crush for the young Scott Summers. She knew though that Shaw would never allow her to possess Scott and decided instead to appeal to his deceptive nature. She told him she would pretend that she had fled the club and was coming to the X-Men for sanctuary in order for her to insert herself into the school like a cuckoo in a nest and strike when they were weak. In reality though, she was abandoning greed and power all to be closer to this young man she was very taken with. Shaw agreed and she came to the school. When she was at the school, most everyone was ignorant to her history with the X-Men. The X-Men doubted her story of being forced to perform the crimes she had committed but they agreed that they could not afford to send her away on the chance that she was telling the truth. Emma is seen by many as a stuck up, cruel bitch who seemingly only loves money and herself. When Xavier came back to the school shortly after her arrival, he investigated the situation and he easily saw through her deception. However, he also saw her love for Scott and therefore verified her story to them, leading her to believe her false memories were authentic enough to trick Xavier. He did this because he felt her love was strong enough to overcome her past. Emma was aware of Scott and Jean’s relationship once she was at the school but like all things in her life, Emma only saw it as an obstacle that needed to be carefully overcome. She used her power to make herself appear more attractive to everyone at the school and only the high order telepaths Jean and Xavier were able to see through it. When the attack on the school occurred, Emma was one of the psychics that immediately fell to the psychic feedback dampeners. The feedback was so intense, that the stress caused her second mutation to activate and her entire body was changed to organic diamond, making her completely invisible to technology that preys on psychics. Her reaction to being crippled by the dampeners was swift once she was immune. She was completely impervious to all their attacks as this power was unknown to everyone involved and her new found physical strength made it all too easy to take down her assailants one by one with a cold cruelty. When it was all over and she saw that Scott was leaving and Jean was staying, Emma saw her opportunity and left with Scott. Not long after, she and Scott started to form a relationship.

Nightcrawler rebootKurt was found on the side of the road in the Bavarian Forest in Bavaria, Germany by a circus gipsy named Margali Szardos in late 2003. She named him Kurt for its Germanic and Turkic (her homeland) dual meaning as “courteous” and “wolf” respectively and she gave him the surname Wagner because it was a common German name. She raised Kurt as her own with the help of the entire circus community as they traveled all over Germany. He was readily accepted among the circus people despite, or perhaps because of his demon-like appearance, prehensile tail, and ectrodactyly hands and feet. Even though Margali was a gypsy with strong new age beliefs, Kurt grew attached to Edmond, a French sword swallower and master of the blade. Edmond was a deeply religious Catholic who sought to repent for his youth as a vicious pirate. He looked to Kurt as a way to gain that repentance by teaching Kurt the faith as well as the sword. Kurt loved the sessions. He looked forward to learning about God and how to lead a life of faith, not for the promised rewards in the afterlife but because he had a genuine love for all things. Kurt had a love for the sword as well and under Edmond’s tutelage, learned the value of human life and how killing should be an absolute last resort in all situations. Kurt’s care free nature and honest happiness made him loved by everyone and his super human agility, a benefit of his extremely flexible joints and spine, eventually earned him a role in the performances with many of the other performers. He excelled in the acrobatics as well as theater, opera, and ballet. His favorite performance is the comic opera, The Pirates of Penzance as the role of Frederic but he performed in nearly everything with equal motivation and joy. Nothing ever seemed to get Kurt down. After all in his eyes, he lived a life truly blessed by God. He even saw his demonic appearance as a blessing from God to test his faith and the faith of others. But even though some failed that test, Kurt never once judged. He only wanted to help these people see that appearances, like the devil, are deceptive and he wanted to help everyone grow under the warm light of the Lord. When he turned 14, Kurt’s ability to teleport activated and his performance routine expanded to inclusion in the illusionist’s shows. A year later, while Kurt was out in the woods near one of the towns, he was approached by a man that claimed to be his father by the name of Azazel and that he needed Kurt to come with him to exact his revenge on the Cheyarafim, a subspecies of mutants that has banished his people, who are also mutants to the Brimstone Dimension. He explained that what Kurt believed was the true word of God was actually what the ancient humans interpreted from the war between his people, the Neyaphem and the beautiful Cheyarafim people. Not even for one moment did Kurt believe a word that came from this man’s mouth. That is until the unassuming man dropped his seemingly magical disguise and revealed that he looked very similar to Kurt. It shook Kurt’s faith but only for a moment before Kurt teleported away and ran back home. When he arrived, the demon-like Azazel was there waiting for him, just outside of camp. He threatened to kill everyone in the circus camp if Kurt did not comply but since he was not without mercy, that he would allow Kurt to say goodbye to them, as Kurt would not be returning. Kurt went into camp and instead of saying goodbye; Kurt told Edmond and Margali what was going on. Since they knew that Kurt had never once told a lie in his entire life, they took the story very seriously. At worst, Azazel was telling the truth but even at best, this man was still threatening murder. They called in the local police immediately. When a few officers arrived, they searched the area but were unable to find anything or anyone that looked suspicious. Just when the police were about to leave, Azazel attacked. He teleported with every fluid movement he made, cutting down officers, gypsies, circus folk, and spectators alike with his long, jagged blade. Kurt could not stand for it. He teleported to his rapier in his room and teleported out to find Azazel. He chased Azazel all over the camp but he was always one step behind Azazel. He couldn’t anticipate Azazel’s jumps and he was too slow with the sword to catch Azazel even if he could. After incalculable teleports, Kurt was exhausted but he refused to give up. Azazel was still in perfect condition though and after he had killed most people in camp, he teleported to Edmond and engaged him in a dual, refusing to use his teleport ability. When it became apparent that Edmond was no match for Azazel, Kurt jumped into the fight to back him up. Even with their combined talent with the sword, which was vast, they were unable to come close to injuring Azazel and when the dual became boring for Azazel, he parried Kurt and ran Edmond through with his tail and teleported away. As Edmond lay dying, he urged Kurt not to hold onto anger or fear as they were the tools of Satan, designed to make a follower of Christ, fall. He begged Kurt to instead seek out love and open minds and to always forgive. Kurt agreed and Edmond passed. Just as Kurt finished a silent prayer and was beginning to seek out Margali, Azazel teleported back, with Margali bound. He thanked Kurt for the touching scene and exclaimed that he wanted to test Kurt’s promise. Kurt teleported to Margali but Azazel teleported himself and Margali away. More specifically, 10 feet above Kurt, where Azazel eviscerated Margali and dropped her onto Kurt. As he stood over her, stunned from the brutality and covered in her blood, more police arrived and they immediately opened fire on Kurt. Kurt tried to teleport away but he was too exhausted from all the teleporting he had already done and instead, took a bullet to his right shoulder. The impact of the bullet snapped Kurt back into action and he was easily able to outrun and evade the humans that chased him with all of his other powers, such as adhering to surfaces which allowed him to scale buildings with ease and melting into the shadows with his unique blue fur. Kurt was able to bind his wound and after recovering, he was able to slowly make his way out of Germany. He would often seek help at churches, disguised as a hooded traveler to keep from having to explain his mutation, which his understanding of had fallen topsy turvy since Azazel entered his life. Kurt was able to make it all the way to the Vatican, where he hoped to seek sanctuary and devote his life to God but when he arrived, he was immediately rejected as a demon or as a disturbed child that sought attention. Feeling truly desperate and starving, Kurt begged God for help for the first time in his life, an act he considered selfish. He asked God to send him someone that would help him survive so he could better serve the Lord. As if in answer of this prayer, Kurt was touched on the shoulder by an elderly man wearing a khaki flat cap and traveler vest. Kurt initially recoiled for fear that his appearance would offend the old man. Instead, the man smiled knowingly and introduced himself as Professor Charles Xavier. He bought Kurt a meal and they ate out of the way of prying eyes and Xavier explained why he had approached Kurt in the first place. He didn’t even really have to sell Kurt on the school. The homeless youth readily accepted the charity and the offer to be around others like him. At the school, Kurt was well liked but he kept to himself at first as he was still dealing with his loss. He did well in his acrobatics and combat training but he fell behind academically. Kurt is fluent in several languages that are common in Europe and in theater, he was the star of the show but he was terrible at history and math, as they were not needed or taught in a circus community. When the school was attacked, Kurt does his best to fight off the horde of murderous humans and to his credit, he actually does very well. He is unmatched with his sword in hand and his teleporting ability and agility only add to his combat prowess. But he can see that taking on the humans one at a time is futile and his friends are being slaughtered by the dozens. In an attempt to save his friends, Kurt gathers them all around him and he tries to teleport them all away. Given the amount of students and Kurt’s unfamiliarity with teleporting more than himself, the strain is too much for him and he fails to teleport them as far away as he had intended. He does manage to get them as far as the tree line on the school grounds though but the stress caused him to pass out. There are humans in the woods as well so it was not successful by any means but it allowed the students the cover of the trees to help in their escape or mask their counter-attack, which is much better than when they were surrounded in the school fields. Kurt is carried by some of the other students while the carnage unfolds and things are eventually tipped in the mutant’s favor.

Colossus rebootPyotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin was born in 2003 on a corporate farm in Irkutsk Oblast, near Lake Baikal, Russia to Nikolai and Alexandra Rasputin. Even as a baby, Pyotr was known for his large size and impressive strength. Pyotr grew up well loved and he loved in return. To the other children on the corporate farm, he was known as the “gentle giant” for his soft heart and enormous size. Though Pyotr would help his father and older brother Mikhail with the farming, his heart belonged to the arts and to his little sister, Illyana. Pyotr shied away from conflict but rarely even had to deal with it in the first place because he was well liked by most people he knew. When Pyotr was 8 years old, Mikhail was nearing adulthood and eventually fell in love with the city life. He moved away to try and carve out his own life but instead of becoming a successful businessman like he had hoped, he fell into the Russian Mafia. The gains were enough to seduce him though, especially since the large majority of what he made significantly improved the lives of his family back on the farm. Mikhail gained a reputation as a brutal and effective enforcer and quickly climbed the ranks within the mafia. However, he eventually bit off more than he could chew and his ambition caused the mafia to cut him down before he his ideas of leading the mafia himself could be actualized. He and his men were attacked in one of their restaurants the mafia was using as a cover and the placed was bombed in the firefight. Makhail was the only body not recovered. Fearing that he was still alive, the mafia continued their search for him. When Pyotr was 10 years old, his powers emerged while he was playing in the lake and he found himself in the form of an even larger metal child. He found himself immune to any conventional injury and his strength seemed without limit. Afraid of what it could mean, he told his parents. They knew that if the Russian Federation knew about Pyotr, they would come collect him for their own ends but they refused to give into fear. While they did not encourage Pyotr to use or hide his power, they did encourage him to do what he felt was right. To follow his heart. One day shortly after Pyotr’s powers were known to his family, the mafia came to the farm searching for Makhail. The Rasputins had no idea where Makhail was. In fact, his involvement with the mafia came as a shock to them completely as they thought he was working as a salesman for a well known iron exporting company. The mafia thugs became violent in their frustration and started beating a few of the farmers. Pyotr tried to defend everyone but he was knocked aside. Truly angered for the first time in his life, Pyotr got back to his feet and changed into his metal form. He still did not act but he approached them in a threatening manner. In a snap reaction, the men fired at him with their guns and much to Pyotr’s surprise, the bullets were barely even felt. However, the hardness of his body caused the bullets to ricochet and one of his childhood friends was struck in the head. Pyotr rushed to her aid but there was nothing he could do. She was slipping away from this world and her mother could only wale in emotional agony. The mafia henchmen realized they had overstayed their welcome, jumped into their car, and tore through the dirt road in their escape. The enraged Pyotr had no intention of allowing them to leave the farm alive. He chased them and when he realized his foot speed was no match for the car, he pushed off the earth as hard as he could and leapt with incredible speed, landing right in front of them. The car crashed into and the crumpled around Pyotr as the momentum of the crash sent both Pyotr and car tumbling. Pyotr was unharmed and he pulled himself from the car that wrapped itself around him like a blanket. The men inside were still alive however so Pyotr yanked them from the wreckage with no small amount of force. He burned with rage with his friend’s death from their brutality and disregard for life. Being still a boy, he did not know what to do. He considered ripping them to pieces, smashing them into the earth and even attempting to throw them into orbit. His feeling of loss and rage and the prospect of what he was considering caused him to have tremors throughout his entire body. Eventually his mind cleared enough to hear his father’s shouts in the distance. His father was flagging him down, begging for his return. Pyotr obeyed and returned to his father with the thugs dragging behind him. When he returned to his family, his father demanded that Pyotr make a choice. Give into his anger or hold fast to his family values of doing the right thing. Reluctantly, Pyotr released the men from his grasp. In what Pyotr saw as a reward from the universe, his childhood friend started to move. The farmers came to the conclusion that she had only seemingly been killed but was only seriously injured. In truth, the infant Illyana had used her magic to revive Pyotr’s friend. The years that followed on the corporate farm were uneventful. The mafia were unwilling to poke the metal bear on the farm and Pyotr only wanted to live in peace and relished in making things grow. When Pyotr was 16 years old, he was dating his childhood friend that had been shot, Anastasia. Even though she had a deep furrow carved from nearly the center of her forehead to just behind her right ear, she was still regarded as very attractive, certainly more attractive than was common in their tucked away farming community. Pyotr and Anastasia planned to be married within a year and have children of their own shortly after that but it was not meant to be. One night, an explosion woke all the farmers in the area and they rushed to their doors and windows to see what had happened. A man shrouded in a red cloak that seemed as though it were mist stood before a giant shinning portal that was causing everything in the immediate area to catch fire. Everything burned except the man standing just in front of the beaming light. When he stepped away towards the Rasputin house, horns could be seen atop his head. He introduced himself as Belasco and informed the residents that he intended to take Illyana to his dimension, where she would learn to manipulate her great magical power. The Rasputins firmly refused so in retaliation, Belasco turned them all into demons and they grabbed Illyana. To his surprise though, Pyotr remained unaffected by the spell as he had already transformed into the organic metal. Belasco doubled his efforts, cursing Pyotr with some of his most potent and lethal attacks but was astounded to see that Pyotr was rushing right for him. Once in Pyotr’s vice grip, he found his teleportation spells would not work while Pyotr had his hands on him. Belasco was at the mercy of Pyotr. Not to be swayed by fear, Belasco insisted that his physical death would only cause him to be reborn back in his home dimension and his family would remain transformed into their hellish forms, only without his control, they would likely tear Illyana to pieces right in front of the metal mutant. According to him, they were at a stalemate but promised to release the Rasputin family from the spell if only he could take Illyana with him with an oath not to harm her. He also insisted that once her training had been completed, he would return her to Earth. Seeing it as the only solution that did not result in the death of his family, Pyotr released Belasco. He threatened though, that if any harm ever fell on Illyana, he would find Belasco, no matter where he may be, and he would kill him. Belasco took Illyana and reversed the spell on the farmers, as promised and then was gone. But just as instantly as he had gone, he reappeared. This time, with a young woman by his side. Belasco had been as good as his word, he returned Illyana but she was no longer the small 9 year old child. She was now older than Pyotr. Belasco announced Illyana as his great love and that he had fulfilled his obligation. He gave Illyana one passionate kiss and once again left Earth. Pyotr rejoiced in his sister’s return, as did the rest of the Rasputin family and the farmers that were their friends. Illyana however, did not seem to enjoy her return. Over the next few weeks, she withdrew into herself often and would leave the farm and run off into the surrounding forest. In truth, she was casting a spell that would draw Xavier to her, as she was instructed to do by Belasco, for he desired Xavier’s body for the unmatched psychic power. Drawn by the subtle spell, Xavier came but for Pyotr, not Illyana. Pyotr’s inner peace appealed to Xavier a great deal. Illyana however, was closed to Xavier’s surface probing. Once he became aware of the plight of the Rasputin family, Xavier offered the school for both Pyotr and Illyana. Pyotr was unsure as he had grown to love the farm. But he also was aware of the dangers that lurked in the world and he thought Xavier’s school might better equip him to address those dangers. In front of Xavier, his girlfriend, and his entire family, Pyotr voiced those concerns. “Th-There is wisdom in his words, Papa… But I am happy here. Tell me, Papa—What should I do?” “Do as your heart tells you, my son. It will not betray you.” “My heart tells me to stay, Papa… But my conscience tells me otherwise. I must go, Papa.” “Then it is right that you do.” With that, Pyotr hugged and kissed his family, spent one last night with his girlfriend, and early the next morning, he and Illyana left with Xavier for America. Although both of the children knew Russian and Ukrainian, they knew very little about English. So during the flight, Xavier gave them a crash course mental lesson for speaking and reading English equivalent to one year of tutoring. Illyana picked it up just fine. Pyotr however, struggled with it but he knew enough to understand if he were given time to think about what he was hearing, reading, or trying to say. At the school Pyotr was an average student with a gift for painting and sculpting and he made many friends. His giant physique and foreign accent also earned him a lot of attention from the girls at the school. Even though he no longer had a girlfriend, he still did not pursue any of the girls out of respect for his ex, feeling it was too soon to begin dating again. During the attack on the school, Pyotr was invincible at first. Nothing the enemy did could hurt him and to protect his friends, he fought bravely. He was one of the targets for a special sonic device though and once hit, he was incapacitated and rendered unconscious.
