Hello and welcome to Webcomic reviews with Decoy Elite. This time I’ll be starting from scratch with a review of Bob and George.
Now, there’s two ways to go into reading Bob and George reading it as your first webcomic, and reading it as just another webcomic. Depending on what is it for you will lead to two very different views of the comic. You see, Bob and George, for me at least, will forever be THE webcomic. It has everything that a comedy webcomics has now a days, author cameos, small crossovers, running gags, 4th wall breaking, flanderized characters, and all kinds of things that fill modern webcomics. So basically, Bob and George is a big book of webcomic clichés. But what’s the big twist here? Bob and George shouldn’t be chastised for being full of these obvious clichés because it invented them. That’s right, Bob and George is the granddaddy of most overused webcomic gags. How overused are these gags? They’re overused to the point that talking about how overused they are, is a running gag in Bob and George.
Now then, this is where that whole first webcomic or not thing comes into play. If you’ve read a lot of webcomics then honestly you won’t really enjoy Bob and George that much, it’s still a good webcomic, but it’s mostly average all around with the only really cool thing being it’s history. But if you’ve never read a webcomic, or have only read a few webcomics then I highly recommend Bob and George, it’s joke are very well done (to the point that everyone copied most of them), the characters are fun (with many other webcomics replicating their personalities), and the plot ranges from great to fucking amazing when you consider that everything, and I mean everything was made up on the spot and yet you’d be hard pressed to find a single plot hole. Seriously, the author fully admitted that he pulled the entire plot out his ass, and yet if you read this webcomic you won’t be able to tell until the end. Everything ties together near perfectly.
Anyway this is a short review because there’s not a lot to say. If you want to start reading webcomics or want to read a good sprite comic besides 8BT, then read Bob and George. If you’re a webcomic veteran who’s interested in the history of the comic, then just read up on it. If you’re a Megaman fan, read Bob and George for the pure sake of the Robot Masters, who are all awesome.
