Love him? Hate him? Don't care?Either way, it seems Marvel's Silver Skyrider may soon soar again.Directly derived from cosmicbooknews.www.cosmicbooknews.com/articles/matg_silverWhat do you make of it, CL crowd? Can the Silver Surfer be Marvel's very own answer to DC's Green Lantern? Can he even sustain his own on-going title on a consistent basis? Would you read it? Is Greg Pak the choice ideal for the project?

Silver Surfer is cool. I'd love reading about him in a new ongoing. I say go for it.

If we're talking about a movie, then I'm iffy. If we're talking about a series, then it's about time. Silver Surfer not having a title feels wrong. Especially when the Avengers have 3+ titles going and the X-Men have more than 4 [though, that's not really anything new]. As much as I appreciate Abnett and Lanning's work with the cosmic titles, I'd really like to see someone else working on some cosmic titles, as well [those dudes write everything, they make me sick] and Pak has rarely disappointed before.

Judging from Pak's history, the latter seems more likely than the former. I think DnA write a better Surfer than Pak does, but I respect Pak a good deal and I'd rather have him on-board (no pun intended) rather than most other writers.

It'd be nice if there was a new SS book. Might be cool.

SS seems interesting. It's not even in continuity, but reading Silver Surfer: Requiem would be the ideal story for you to get you acquainted to the character. That mini-series is all that the Surfer stands for. And one of the best series I've ever read, as well.

I don't know if Surfer will be the answer to the whole current run of GL but he can definitely hold his own title imo. I'd definitely follow his own series right now. Been meaning to catch up on a lot of Surfer anyway. He hasn't had his own solo in quite a while now and his classic stories were very fun to read.

Wait wait wait. Does this mean the Surfer will finally acquire..... a sense of humor?
I'm all for it. Pak hasn't failed me yet and I like his style. I do think it will probably be different to any other Surfer comic I've read.

Been meaning to catch up on a lot of Surfer anyway. He hasn't had his own solo in quite a while now and his classic stories were very fun to read. I don't believe the Surfer would be the answer to GL either, because Johns has structured the GL methos in a way where the latest huge blockbuster (probably the greatest in recent years) event of DC was GL-centric, with top guns like Superman, and Wonder Woman (I don't mention Batman since he was presumed dead at the time) taking the back sit for the GLs and the Flashes. Sure, Herc is currently the star of Chaos War, but let's face it, it does not even respond to a fraction of the length Blackest Night had. Accordingly, building up an event entirely on the Surfer and assorted characters which would span over every single mainstream title Marvel has is highly unlikely.Well, he did trash talked against the Revengers. ;D

Johns has structured the GL methos That cannot be unintentional. ;D There's plenty of room to work still.

And I was actually thinking the Highlander character.I'm not sure I'd want a Surfer that would constantly crack jokes. It's against his character. He does work better in deadpan moments. But it all depends on how it will be written.

I doubt Surfer will turn into Spiderman all of a sudden either (While we're there, has Pak done Spiderman?), but I do expect a shift to a more lighthearted tone to Surfer's usual melodrama (Because let's face it. ). But I don't know, I've never seen Pak do a grim book, maybe he'll surprise us.

The Surfer indeed has a touch for the dramatic, it is one of the reason I am so fond of him. His stories are operatic in scale.
I take it you never read Magneto Testament, then.
