Hello and welcome to webcomic reviews with Decoy Elite. In the spirit of compromise and all that Crom did his own webcomic review and I decided to follow suit with my own review of something I usually don't cover. A comic? Oh lord no, I don't have the money to go get some new stuff and the only other comics I can review are from Images online comics. Screw that. No, I'm going to review my favorite gag a day webcomic Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal.

Let's start with the art, which is by far SMBC's weakest area. The art is average at best and below average at it's worst. It gets across what's needed for the joke, but that's it. Romantically Apocalyptic this is not.
Joke wise, SMBC is a pure joke a day comic. Every strip is self contained with no characters or events crossing over to any other strips. Joke wise SMBC started out as more of an internet Far Side with one simple picture and then a caption which made the image funny. It worked rather well, but was a bit on the weak side with the humor at times. As the comic went on the strips became more complex, growing in size.
SMBC, outside of some earlier strips, is rather dark. It's not pitch black like Warbot in Accounting, but it's not afraid to offend it's audience to get a joke across. Everything gets made of fun of for the sake of the jokes, from red heads to god, nothing is safe from SMBC's mocking. And I love the comic for this. It has a real sense of balance with it's mocking and as long as you're not easily offended you should enjoy it's humor. Another plus for SMBC is that it keeps away from current events and stays with timeless gags so if you're bored you can curse through the achieve and none of the jokes will really be lost on you.
Overall SMBC is a fun gag a day strip that should be fun for anyone who can take a joke. It earns itself a 4 out of 5.
