Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson's adventures in 21st Century London. A thrilling, funny, fast-paced contemporary remake of the Arthur Conan Doyle classic. Co-created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the new Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as his loyal friend, Doctor John Watson. Rupert Graves plays Inspector Lestrade. The iconic details from Conan Doyle's original books remain – they live at the same address of 221b Baker Street, have the same names and, somewhere out there, Moriarty is waiting for them. Steven Moffat says: " Conan Doyle's stories were never about frock coats and gas light; they're about brilliant detection, dreadful villains and blood-curdling crimes – and frankly, to hell with the crinoline. Other detectives have cases, Sherlock Holmes has adventures, and that's what matters." Trailer

I usually put the information needed into my initial post then carry it on in the next post.
The first season aired last year with positive reviews. I for one found it amazing. Great timing to bring this out near to the film.
The second series will be out in autumn this year. And if anyone is familiar to Sherlock Holmes then you may know these.
"You can have three words to work from: Adler, Hound, Reichenbach. Those are your clues." - Steve Moffat

I've read every single Sherlock Holmes story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. And this show didn't impress me at all

Aside from the storytelling and actors being meh. I was very irritated because the guy supposed to be playing Sherlock sure as hell needs to read more Sherlock Holmes because he doesn't have the character down at all.

What is the character like in the books?
A friend of mine got them for his birthday. I might ask him for one and then go from there.

What is the character like in the books? A paradox mostly. Misantropic yet highly refined and charming. Incredibly intelligent and perceptive yet self-deastructive when his prodigious mental abilities don't get tested (he was coke addict until he kicked the habit). He enjoyed the arts and the theater. What he wasn't was an annoying egotistical smart aleck who talked down and not subtlety at all called everyone morons. Especially not Watson whom the real Sherlock has nothing but respect for.

Was there anything about the show you did enjoy? If you watched them all that is.

Note I didn't watch a lot of the show maybe two episodes. But at leas the concepts and analogues to the books were of some interest.

In that case, it sounds like Robert Downey Jr nailed him. He successfully delivered the third best Sherlock Holmes performance I have ever seen. He did a good job, but he played him more rough and tumble as well as comedic then the real Sherlock Holmes is (thought he part about him being a kickass fighter is true). And the real Sherlock Holmes is classier. But it was a good performance. Well worth a sequel and certainly not insulting Arthur Conan Doyle's creation.
