The 616 universe is for sales. Killing off main characters in 616 for a long time fiscally does not make sense most of the time I would imagine. I don't believe that, in fact judging by the salesman at the three stores I visit, it's the opposite.

It is why the Ultimate universe is growing on me. No one comes back to life. Wolverine? Dead. Magneto? Dead. Nearly everyone in Ultimatum? Still dead. If they want someone to come back like Wasp, they have someone else throw the costume on. That's a good style and all, but I still want to roundhouse Loeb in the face for taking it so d**n far. Just about everyone in the Ultimate U of whom I was a fan is now dead.

Can I beat them both over the head with a 2X4? Yes. But only after they take the walk of shame out of the building via security escort.

Yes. But only after they take the walk of shame out of the building via security escort. Can I gather my buds so we can chuck junk at them and laugh at them?

BUT I like how when I fear for the life of my favorite ultimate character (Spider-Man/Spider-Woman) I know that the fear is valid.

Eh, as far as comics go. A good death is far better then a poor life.

Taking out half the X-Men is one thing, but Spider-Man is Marvel's poster boy. There's no way they're going to kill him AND make it permanent when so many in that universe have died already. They're going to run out of characters to write for.

I'm saying that judging from what 3 different salesmen/shop owners I've talked to have told me. The constant return to status quo and bullshit like OMD has made a lot of their clientele abandon all marvel. One of them told me about this one client that would buy like 10 Marvel comics a week stopped because he got so frustrated after Civil War. not to mention a lot of comic readers either don't even know the ultimate verse exists or if they do haven't given them a chance. As for the ultimate verse, the reason people got pissed off and the sales dropped was the poor quality of Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum that ultimately ruined the imprint for them. After that a lot of fans simply didn't want to take a chance again.

Hell it might even be at the end of Ultimate Doom that I am reviewing right now.

For the reasons I stated, I'm still not that scared that it's going to stick. Spider-Man won't ever stay dead for the same reasons Batman, Superman, and Captain America haven't. The Ultimate universe has different rules. Wolverine has remained faithfully dead and he even has a power that would justify a resurrection.
