After the recent success and media coverage of the death of the Human Torch in Fantastic Four #587, Marvel's VP of Sales confirmed their plans to kill a character every quarter. He explained that this is "not a joke" and had this to say: Bleeding CoolLet's hear your thoughts below.

Well done Marvel. Instead of producing great or even good stories to get readers. Kill people off to get the readers.

Plus they seem to be including Ultimate universe stuff in this marketing ploy. Since people die in the Ultimate universe all the time, they could actually be pulling a lot of their deaths from there.

Maybe they are finally taking Stan Lee's advise and are just going to create new characters.

As long as they don't kill my favorites, I could care less.

Well, since Stan Lee said he wished they would do something like that ages ago, no. They did not have an original idea. They just might be listening to old guys that still have some loose ties to their establishment though.

A character shouldn't need to die in order for a title to make strides in plot quality.

...that is the dumbest idea I've ever heard in my entire life. The only Marvel I'm gonna read now is NIOR and Punisher: MAX.

Every time they kill off a major character, I drop the book.
I'm not buying FF or X-Men right now anyways, but I wouldn't go near them after they killed off the HT and Nightcrawler on principle that good stories > shock value.

As much as I love the character, I still have to admit that Nightcrawler's death was well done. I don't think they did it purely for shock value.
