In a recent interview with IGN the developers have curbstomped the rumor of multiplayer for the highly anticipated sequel. Honestly, I'm fine with that. As long as the game provides a campaign equally as epic as the first (and some additional game modes for replay value), I'll have no issue picking this up on its release date. Check out the full interview here (remark on multi is on page 2) ps3.ign.com/articles/114/1149377p1.html

Good, means they'll focus on the campaign. Too many games shoe horn multi in anyway.

But in the meantime, I'd rather have no multiplayer than a last minute addition just thrown in to say 'hey, we have multiplayer!'

Honestly, I didn't mind Bioshock 2's multiplayer. Sure, the gameplay modes were nothing unique (although the Big Daddy one was pretty fun, but again that's just like 'Predator Hunt' from classic AvP), but facing others with the blend of plasmids was fun for some time. The backlog information on each character you could unlock was interesting as well.
...But then again, I likely enjoyed it because I love the canon that Bioshock has established so far and I can understand how someone not as passionate about the franchise would find the experience mediocre at best. Here's to hoping Bioshock: Infinite rocks.

How would you make a multiplayer work at all? What, would there be a dozen Batmen running around the city at once? Crime rate would plummet so low it would go into negative numbers.

I thought a 2 player co-op mode could make sense (one is Wayne, one is a secondary side-kick character) because competitive would be tough to pull off based on the melee combat system.

That could work, the main problem with it being that every other person could not be able to play as Batman. And let's face it, in this game, that's pretty important. ;D

That's why you make the side-kicks awesome and unique characters (Nightwing, Red Hood, Joker, etc)

Eh -hem.....Batgirl Just giving a few examples. There's of course Catwoman, Bane, and potential for more. I hope they have the alternate battle/stealth levels again, but this time with a variety of characters to unlock. Playing as the Joker in the PS3 version was very fun.

Good, we need less of that multi-player taking up devellopment time better used on making the story and single player mod awesome.
