I read the comic about what happened in between the two games.

Ah, that was the older one. The current picks up at the end of the war with the Turians. So far, I'm pretty let down. Mass Effect is such an amazing franchise and I feel like this isn't capitalizing on the potential at all. It's more-so diving into one aspect we already know (Relics), and well, that's about it. The rest is just somewhat bland and uninterestng. I'm hoping it picks up, but I'll likely give the series only one more issue to pick things up.
This series is called 'Evolution' and I haven't read the previous one (yet). How many issues were in that? 4 seems to be the generic short run number. Feel free to discuss that series in this thread, too.

It was a three parter if I remember correctly. Pretty cool, it followed the blue alien chick, what's her name...

Only played the first game for about 20 minutes, but I was probably going to check this out because Mass Effect seemed cool, almost like a Star Wars type thing. Now, I don't think so if you feel that way about it k4tz.

It's really not that good of a comic. If you weren't too fond of Mass Effect (too RPG heavy?), definitely get the demo for the second. They toned down the RPG elements, smoothed out the controls, and combat is so much better.

I think I'm just not a huge fan of RPG's. I couldn't get into Fallout, either. I played that game for a few days though.

I didn't say reducing RPG elements as a whole improved the game. I only added that because I know that makes it more appealing to ckal, who isn't a fan of RPGs to begin with.

O.K, still as much as I loved both mass effects games. The toning down of the playable, in-game RPG mechanics was a big flaw. What made the original mass effect so awesome was that it was the first real Sci-Fi action RPG ever seen, and it had great story and characters to booth. Mass Effect 2 did away with that, the RPG playable elements were so toned down that it wasn't an RPG anymore. It was a shooter with level up mechanics and gear improvement.

As much as I agree with Crom that RPG elements should have stayed, ME2 was still a lot more fun IMo than ME1.

Overall, ME2 was a better made game, with the exception of the mining/probing mechanic. It did oversimplify the game in some places but on the whole the combat was 200% better. Hopefully ME3 will be a balance of simple/advanced concepts.
