Can anyone recommend a good Firestorm trade/story arc? I don't really mind which incarnation it is.
jakefury - I run the FIRESTORM FAN blog and would be happy to make some suggestions.
A great place to start would be the "Firestorm the Nuclear Man" trade paperback coming this July. It collects the earliest appearances of the character. Check your local comic shop to make sure they ordered it. Gerry Conway writing, Al Milgrom and George Perez artwork!
Another good trade is "Firestorm The Nuclear Man: Reborn". These stories feature the Jason Rusch incarnation of the character. Some really great Stuart Moore writing and Jamal Igle art.
If you go the issue route, I strongly encourage you to seek out the first two years of "The Fury of Firestorm" series, plus the first Annual. This was a fun superhero comic with fantastic art. The series rides the line between late-Bronze Age and early-Modern Age storytelling. Definitely worth a read. Gerry Conway writing, with Pat Broderick and Raphael Kayanan artwork!
Additionally, the recent "Brightest Day" features quite a lot of Firestorm. It's an interesting journey bringing together two different incarnations of the character. Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi wrote it, and Scott Clark and Dave Beaty drew the Firestorm segments.
Finally, if you are willing to try some really good, socially conscious stories featuring Firestorm, but not necessarily the traditional Firestorm the Nuclear Man character, then the Elemental era is for you. Check out "Firestorm" #86 - 100. Great stuff written by John Ostrander with gorgeous Tom Mandrake art.
Hope this helps! Feel free to stop by FIRESTORM FAN anytime!
