GI Joe Infestation 1 & 2
This issue is part of the Infestation storylines running through GI Joe, Transformers, Ghostbusters and Star Trek comics under the IDW banner. In another dimension, a zombie apocalypse had begun using magically enhanced technology. A vampiric soldier named Brit was able to open portals to the four previously mentioned universes and pieces of the technology made it to all four of them before she could be stopped.
This is what happens in the GI Joe universe.
The story opens aboard a COBRA sub in the Pacific Ocean thats under the command of the Baroness. They're tracking 3 members of the GI Joe team under the command of Psyche-Out aboard a sailboat and are trying to discover why they're using such primitive methods. A team of COBRA Eels raids the ship and manages to take the 3 Joes captive and also find the item they're transporting. It turns out to be a piece of the zombie tech in the form of a robotic arm.
After the Baroness tortures his teammates Dolphin and Hound, Psyche Out admits what havoc the arm wreaked on the Joes home base. Once it was hooked up to their system it overrode their weapons system and began taking over the base. After barely escaping with their lives they were transporting it aboard the sailboat.
As this is going on, another member of the COBRA team has hooked up the arm to their systems in an effort to help herself walk again. Just like the Joes before them the arm's sentient technology begins taking over the base and using all of their weapons against them, including some animal experiments they were conducting. (Evil cyborg monkeys!) Unfortunately for everyone in the base, they're at the bottom of the Pacific and they have no means of escape.
I won't spoil the rest but it goes pretty much according to your basic sci-fi movie script. It's not necessarily a bad thing but still predictable.
Fury Thoughts:
This is only a two issue limited series and is worth the cover price if you're a sci-fi fan and a fan of the Joes and Cobra. It has some elements of several sci-fi movies and does a pretty decent job of tying them all together. The artwork is nice but some of it leaves a little to be desired.
Overall:
6.5/10
