Writer: Geoffrey Johns Penciler: Doug Mahnke Inks: Christian Alamy, keith Champagne, Mark Irwin & Tom Nguyen Green Lantern #64 War of the Green Lanterns Part One The War of the Green Lanterns kicks off here! First and foremost, there is a heckuva lot going on in this issue. We open with a group of Green Lanterns searching for Hal Jordan and looking to arrest him for his recent actions. Namely ignoring GL protocols and hunting Krona with Atrocitus, Star Sapphire, Sinestro, Saint Walker, Larfleeze & Indigo-1. Hal Jordan is in the lost sector of Ryut with the rest of the representatives of the various Lantern Corps. They're trying to track down Krona and Atrocitus makes a revelation regarding the real reason the Manhunters slaughtered everyone in his sector many eons ago. They stumble across the book of the black and its new protector: Alyssa Drak. On Oa, the Guardians are discussing Hal's actions and whether or not the rings are flawed. They argue and accuse each other of emotional reactions when Krona arrives with the entities of the various Lantern Corps in tow. Back on Ryut and the Corps reps aren't faring well against Lyssa Drak and they're beginning to get pulled into the Book of the Black. We quickly go back to Oa just in time to see Krona force the entities to each pick a fitting Guardian host. (An entity for each Guardian) Back quickly to Ryut and everyone has been pulled into the book except Hal. He only frees himself when he and Sinestro unleash everything their rings have. The book collapses on itself and Hal doesn't have time to act because the Green Lanterns have arrived to arrest him. They give Hal time to explain himself before arresting him and he pleads his case. Back again to Oa and Krona has done the unthinkable. He's put Parallax back in the Central Power Battery. With the impurity restored every Green Lantern seen has fallen under Krona's control except for Hal Jordan. he asks his fellow Lanterns why Krona would do that when he's suddenly attacked by them. He manages to grab the rings of the Corps members who were sucked into the Book of the Black and escape. On the run he tries communicating with any other Lanterns still possessed of their free will. We go back to Oa a final time and see the Guardians fully under the control of Krona and the entities. Krona then says its time to unleash the power of the Green Lantern Corps on the universe... End. Thoughts: This issue had a ton going on and I promise not to be as long winded with the other reviews in the story arc. This issue felt like a huge trailer for an intergalactic mega saga. That's a compliment of the highest order. In one issue Johns managed to set up this arc beautifully and packed a ton of things into this issue. It definitely has me hooked and while I do have a few minor complaints I'll let you judge for yourself. For me personally, this issue had many good qualities and only a few flaws. 8/10 This has me just as hooked as the first issue of Fear Itself and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

*can't read this since i'm 325252 issues behind* LOL I haven't read all of the current volume either. It's pretty good stuff. Kind of has that star Wars feel to it in scope.

War Of The Green Lanterns Part 2 Green Lantern Corps #58 Writer: Tony Bedard Pencils: Tyler Kirkham Part 2 of WOTGL runs through the cast and pages of the Green Lantern Corps. We see Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, Ganthet and Soranik Natu returning to Oa from their mission on Qward in the anti-matter universe. Upon arriving, they notice something is immediately wrong when they find several members of the Alpha Lanterns floating nearly lifeless in space. They're all then hit by Parallax infecting the Central Power Battery just like we saw in GL #64. The Good: In a change of pace from GL #64, this issue takes a very close look into the mind of Kyle Rayner. We see Kyle's thoughts on his career as a Lantern and also his own feelings regarding his selection to the Corps. We also see him compare himself to his friend John Stewart, including their similarities and differences. This was very well done and a great opening piece for what takes place in this issue. It was a contrast to what went down in GL #64 but is by no means a knock on either book. Also like GL #64, we get a nice little battle between Kyle and John before Ganthet intercedes and cooler heads prevail. Ganthet then tells Kyle why he was chosen before parting ways with John & Kyle due to him having residual energies the mind controlled Lanterns can track. The Bad: Nothing Thoughts: This was a another good issue and a great follow up to Part One. I like the team of Kyle & John and them having their own agenda in this story arc makes sense. Seeing how they can handle this without their rings has me eagerly anticipating the next issue. 8/10

War Of The Green Lanterns Part 3 Green Lanterns Emerald Warriors #8 Writer: Peter Tomasi Pencils" Fernando Pasarin Part 3 of WOTGL focuses on Guy Gardner and touches on what's been going on in his series. Namely, his dealings with Sodam Yat and his secret pact with Ganthet & Atrocitus. We see him, Kilowog and Arisia hit by the effects of Parallax being returned to the Central Power Battery. However, only Arisia is affected due to Guy & Kilowog previously being infected by the fear entity. Like the previous Lanterns, Arisia takes off for Oa leaving Guy & Kilowog in the path of hundreds of other brainwashed Lanterns heading to Oa. KIlowog decides to allow himself to be captured leaving Guy by himself. He eventually contacts Hal Jordan and the agree to meet at the Greenhouse, an icy planet siimilar to Hoth from Star Wars. Like the previous issue of GLC, we see a throwdown between Guy & Hal due to their mutual mistrust & jealousy of each other. Guy also reveals Krona has been secretly manipulating the rings and this affect causes their ill feelings to flare and battle each other. Realizing their only course of action is to separate themselves from their rings they do so before killing each other. They then wonder what to do next and this issue comes to a close. The Good: The emotions in this issue feel very real and the tension between Hal & Guy is great. We get to see them fully express their opinions about each other and no punches are pulled. The battle is a heated one and surprisingly even. It leaves both men looking and feeling like they've been in a fight. One of the minor details I've liked about the series so far is that we've seen these events unfold from the perspective of each Earth born Lantern involved. Also, the time frames for these kind of crossovers is always a bit confusing for me so it was nice to see the takeover of the Central Power battery happen in each issue. The Bad: No Complaints from me. 8.5/10 IMHO this is the best issue of the story arc so far.

Very nice. If there were no complaints, why the 8.5? Are you saying it was a good issue with no flaws but not a great issue?

Very nice. If there were no complaints, why the 8.5? Are you saying it was a good issue with no flaws but not a great issue? I'm not that familiar with Guy and I didn't read the first seven issues of this volume. It was good but I think this story is going to get even better.

So after reading all the issues, which one was your favorite? I know you gave each one a number review but I want to know how you feel now that you read them all.

Guy is the second best Lantern!! Behind Kyle that is. I also love that image of Guy in Emrald Warrior. Great review.
Another thing that's bothering me. DC has these adverts saying "Who will be the new[/I] Green Lantern of Sector 2418?" Get that "new". That implies it won't be Hal, but I somehow see some stupid idea for him to keep it.[/font]

So after reading all the issues, which one was your favorite? I know you gave each one a number review but I want to know how you feel now that you read them all. Probably Emerald Warriors #8. The emotion and tension between Hal & Guy was right up my alley. It also had the best art IMO. I thoroughly enjoyed them all, but if I had to rank them so far it'd look like this: 1-EW #8 2- GL #64 3- GLC #58 However, my girlfriend liked GL# 64 the best because of Mahnke's art.

@fury:
Does this lead into a part 4 or does this wrap up the War of the Green Lanterns arc?

That is a pretty big arc. Based on what you are saying about the issues, that is great news.
