Just finished Arkham Origins finally. The story is worth the price of admission.

DA2 had some great characters.
I think they tried to make it different to DA: O and 'less epic' and ended up with 'mediocre'. But to me the storytelling and characters were good, the story itself was just somewhat dull and predictable. The game itself had a Kotor2 feel to it. It felt rushed and like it built up to something that never happened.
Mass Effect 3 had the same problem.

I vehemently disagree. Aside from the beardless dwarf, all the characters were meh at best. And forcing me to play Hawke rather then allowing to actually have actual options to play different characters was bullshit. One of the best things about DOA was the origins. How you could see two totally different perspectives.
The other characters, some of them made me want to puke, most barely raised any care. The story was nowhere satisfying instead of ambiguity and actual choices, it was you vs world with nothing but assholes except one guy
Mass effects 3 had completely different problems. It's problem was that it completely shit on what made the two previous great games and good god the ending, what a flaming pile of monkey shit.

Eh, I did dislike the lack of choice but I also made my Hawke a consummate badass. I liked Aveline, Varric, Fenris and Isabela. I'll admit Merril and Anders were probably two of the least likable characters in any game ever.
Mass Effect 3's probably is the same as Dragon Age 2's in that they're both games where Bioware had no fucking idea how to follow up from the previous games (which were fantastic in both cases). They're also similar in that both had completely anti-climactic endings. To me the most interesting NPC in DA2 was Cassandra Pentaghast who wasn't a companion. However, she is a companion in Inquisition. Which makes me even more excited for that game.

Looks like Inquisition will have multiple races (including Qunari!), Fortresses, All the best companions so far (Varric and Morrigan) and Mounts! Quote from DA Wiki: "It is the first game in the series to feature mounts.[17] The dialogue wheel, first featured in Dragon Age II, returns. As in both previous installments, the player character can be one of three classes; warrior, rogue or mage. The player will have the ability to choose one of 4 playable races - human, dwarf, elf or qunari - and of either gender. Body sliders will not be available to customize the player character's physique; rather, the engine will support differing body shapes for each race.[18] Like the Warden, the Warden-Commander, and Hawke in previous titles, the Inquisitor will be able to recruit companions. It has been revealed that there will be nine possible party members in total, so far only three have been confirmed.[19] All companions can be customized via armor appearance and in-class weapon style.[20] Furthermore, in exploration they will assist the player by calling out sights of interest.[20] According to Mike Laidlaw, as in Dragon Age: Origins, the Inquisitor will be able to speak to companions as desired, though not necessarily in every location.[21] Part of the gameplay of Inquisition involves obtaining and maintaining power in various regions of the map. In part this is done through strongholds, which can be seized and upgraded to accomplish various tasks, and which serve as a hub for promoting the interests of the Inquisition.[20] "

I'm not getting my hopes up for Dragon Age 3 because dragon Age 2 sucked too much. But I am glad they are going back to allowing us the choice of race and I hope the developers will make sure it matters to the story. Also that it will actually be good.

I wonder how you communicate if you roll a Qunari Mage...

I wonder how you communicate if you roll a Qunari Mage... Same way you'll play a Qnari of any class logically. Your character has to be an outcast/outsider/whatever. No Qnari who follows the Qun would be an inquisitor of the church of andraste. Since Qnari mages are subjected at best to a life of torturous state servitude. Your character will have had to have escaped Qnari society before he was found.

As long as Merrill doesn't make an appearance, anything will seem to make some degree of sense.

I honestly disliked Merill so much that I never bothered keeping her with me in the time I played the game and don't even remember what happened to her.
I just want to see some of the Npcs return from DOA and not the parodies we got in DA2.

Same. I think I had her in my group once ever and she was like "BUT DEMONS ARE REALLY GOOD FOR YOU, DEMONS TOLD ME" and I was like "...you're an actual fucking moron." and then threw her at the Elf slums and rode away into the sunset.
I'd like to see some more Alistair, Morrigan, and Oghren. I didn't really care too much about the others. Sten had his moments but at some point I realized he was a virtual carbon-copy of Worf from TNG, then I hated him.

Same. I think I had her in my group once ever and she was like "BUT DEMONS ARE REALLY GOOD FOR YOU, DEMONS TOLD ME" and I was like "...you're an actual fucking moron." and then threw her at the Elf slums and rode away into the sunset. I just hated the whole hypocrisy of this character where they tried to convince me she's this sweet, innocent, pure flower trying to do good and blah blah blah that needs to be protected and all that bullshit. She's a fucking blood mage! For Christ sake, anyone who's played the first Dragon Age (let alone the writers) should know that if you're willfully dabbling in blood magic, you're willingly killing the life force of others, raping their minds and consorting with demons of sin. Anyone remember the tower of magi or Earl Eamon's son? Anyone trying to fucking convince me she's good after I played through DOA as a Mage and a badass Paladin is an idiot. The worse part about this is the threatment of the Templars in DA 2. In order to make us sympathize with the blood mages, they made the templars a bunch of racist drug addled nazis. Jesus, again anyone remember the Templars in DOA? They were hardasses and many of them were bad but at least you could understand where they are coming from. DA2 seemed to take every opportunity to make them more evil. I'd like to see some more Alistair, Morrigan, and Oghren. I didn't really care too much about the others. Sten had his moments but at some point I realized he was a virtual carbon-copy of Worf from TNG, then I hated him. If Alistair returns, I hope they make him becoming king the canon because that was one of the most satisfying things in the game, watching your best bud take the throne and make you his second in command. Morrigan was awesome, she never left my party. Oghren was fun that is all. Didn't use him in DOA except to do his personal quests because they were all hilarious. By Awakening thought I swapped him around a lot because his dialogue is hilarious. Sten was o.k, never did much with him because he was too far down the "should logically keep him around pole". I usually had the first duo of Alistair and Morrigan with my third being either Wynne or Lelianna depending on the quest.

Alistair becoming king is canon! The main graphic novel series follows some of what he does as king.
