Yahoo! Movies has the brand new exclusive theatrical trailer for X-Men: First Class. Director Matthew Vaughn's take on the origins of the X-Men deals with Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) before they became Professor X and Magneto. The new trailer sheds some new light on their effort to work together with a new cast of mutants to prevent nuclear war in the 60s. So, Ledgers, how do you guys feel? The first slew of promotional pics had me facepalming, but this new trailer looks fairly promising. I think Vaughn definitely showed off his directing capabilites with 'Kick Ass' as well. What do you guys think? Is the bad taste of X-Men 3: The Last Stand or X-Men Origins: Wolverine still fresh to you or are you keeping an open mind with this one? First Class will hit theaters June 3rd, 2011 If you are not already a member, Sign Up! to join the community and take part in the discussion! Actually looks pretty good, almost entirely because of Fassbender as Magneto.
I've been impressed they had the balls to go for the original costumes as well, go them.
Still, it is Fox, so my hopes won't get too high. Part of me wants it to fail because I don't even think Fox deserves to make any money off the rights to these characters because of all the terrible ones they have done in the past.

Doesn't really move me. Unless my friends ask me to go and see it, which they won't. I don't think I'd see it.

In the beginning, when it shows Erik and Charles meeting, the setting looks remarkably similar to how they met in the Ultimate universe.
When Charles tells Erik that he apparently knows "everything" about him, it makes me wonder if Charles will be somewhat more liberal in the use of his powers in the beginning of the movie. It looks like the entire plot is based on Charles trying (and failing) to convince Erik to control his thirst for power. It will be interesting if Charles has to go though some personal development in that area himself.
In the shots of Havok when we see him using his powers, and standing in a line with some of the other X-Men, it appears that his suit is outfitted with the same circular pattern on the chest. Perhaps they will delve into the issue of him not being able to contain his energy without a special suit? I hope so. I like any detail that stays true to the comics.
I am very confused by a scene that appears to show that a romantic relationship develops between Hank McCoy and Mystique ("You have no idea what I'd give to feel... normal." Then Mystique leans in to kiss). For one thing, I am confused by the fact that Mystique is in a human-looking form in that scene. For another thing, I had assumed that the film would set up a romantic relationship between Mystique and Azazel. Azazel's presence in the film and his teleportation powers strongly indicate that the film plans to set the two of them up as Nightcrawler's parents in the movie canon.
Banshee just looks so... young. The only Banshee we've ever known from comics is a guy who has a good ten years on most of his fellow X-Men. Even in his earliest appearances, I think he was in his 30s or something (while all the other X-Men were still teenagers). Seeing him as a young teen now just looks really really weird. However, I do like the idea that he appears to have a major role in one of the film's battle scenes (we now have several shots of him using his power to fly and produce sonic blasts, some of which are underwater).
When Erik and Charles have a bit of dialogue ("They're just kids." "No. They were kids."), who is that brunette shown standing among the students behind them. Moira McTaggart, perhaps?
In the shot of Charles, Banshee, Havok, Erik, and Mystique all standing in a row in uniform, Mystique just looks... strange. Maybe it's because I'm not used to seeing her with clothes on.
They show a shot of Azazel in a battle, and then a huge fireball consumes half the room he's in. Is this another new power Azazel is given for this film? Or does it have something to do with the weird "four hands fireball" thing Sebastian Shaw was doing in one of the other trailers?
Mystique is shown standing alone... covering her mouth in shock? Seeing her with such emotions is just as unnerving as seeing her with clothes on.
