I just got back from seeing it. I can see why it has been doing so well.

I only with my viewing experience had been better. I didn't get to see it in 3D, I got a kinda bad seat, and the friends I went with were talking and laughing throught the whole thing.

Get new friends.
erik- I don't know if I was just tired as hell because I saw the midnight screening or not, but I came away from it very underwhelmed. I thought it would be better. I think they cut too much out, it needed to be a good 15 minutes longer at least.

I think they cut too much out, it needed to be a good 15 minutes longer at least. I understand your feeling. I started to come out thinking the same thing in all honesty but I took my sister with me and she loved it. When I explained my displeasure with certain things about the movie (not dark enough, more humor than I would have liked) she said that was the things she loved about it. I think that most of the movie is made for you and me, the comic fans, while some of the things I did not really like at first are made for the people that did not even know that Thor is a comic. Once I looked at it in that light, it did change my views on it. I actually really like the movie and am thoroughly pleased with what I saw. The fanboy in me was all that was disappointed and even then it was only a slight disappointment.

But I agree that it could have been longer too.
The after credits roll made me have a geek moment though.

Those weren't the issues of the movie for me. I actually liked some of the humor. Darcy had about no point except pop culture comic relief, but Thor was funny. Going into the pet shop and demanding a horse or a bird or dog big enough to ride, and smashing his coffee cup on the ground demanding another.
The problems I had were that the scenes felt rushed and went by quickly, and jumped back and forth between earth and Asgard very quickly and often. I felt that didn't give us much time to get into a rhythm with some earth and Asgard scenes. I also thought there just wasn't enough screen time for Thor when he was in possession of his powers, and the battle scenes were too short (great Jotunheim scene) or anticlimactic (Thor vs. Destroyer).
I'm going to see it again this weekend for sure to give it another chance, because I honestly think I was affected by my weary eyes. I still thought it was pretty good, but I'm sure part of it was that I had set my hopes so ridiculously high for it. I'm thinking Marvel may have been better off not opting for the 'worthy origin' plot. It takes a long time for that to be believable, and since they decided to go that route, should not have cut that much from the movie. It would have certainly benefited from another 15 - 20 minutes of screen time.

I felt we got enough fight time with Thor with powers. He was dropping frost giants like crazy in their home turf and he was there for a bit. I think that the Destroyer fight was a little anti-climactic because Thor is not usually that much more powerful than it in the comics. He dropped that sentinel like it was easy when it really should have been hard.
But you also have to factor in the 2nd DVD release (which will be launched with initial release or about 2 months after) will probably have this additional 15 - 20 minutes of footage you feel you are missing.
I do understand where you are coming from, I personally did not feel it was rushed scene by scene. I felt it was rushed overall though and that was because the Destroyer threat was so.... non-threatening once Thor got his powers.

Yeah. If this movie had another 15-20 minutes, I feel it could possibly have been an amazing film.
Branagh said they cut almost 30 minutes I believe, which will be on the DVD extra features. I wish they would make a director's cut or extended edition.

I honestly liked his unworthy time a lot. I actually wish there was more of it. We saw a lot more character development in that time than anywhere else in the film. I also would have liked the romance (which was more than I expected) to have been explored on more.
Loki's character was a bit of a surprise. His intentions were more "noble" than I would have expected, twisted as they were.

I'm glad they didn't go that route and make the romance a big part of the film. I thought it was enough the way it was. Only thing about the romance I would have liked to see was a bit involving Sif's feelings towards Thor. I think we saw a hint of that, but my guess is that it will be expanded upon in the sequel.
Yeah, 'noble' in one sense, 'menace' in the other. He was completely jealous of Thor, hated Thor, hated Odin, wanted to impress Odin, wanted love, hated the Frost Giants, wanted power, etc. He was a very complex character, and I thought played very well by Hiddleston. Actually, pretty great acting across the board to be honest. Hemsworth was awesome.

Too bad Portman will not be in Avengers but they all signed the standard 3 contract deal for Thor so she might be in a sequel. I loved Hiddleston's performance. You could tell Loki loved Odin but also hated him for what Loki considered failings. He also seemed to feel that way about Thor, to the point where he cried in the final confrontation. Then knowing that Odin disapproved of his actions wounded him. Very complex character. I am glad we will see him as the main baddie in Avengers. With the cube no less.

Agreed. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again. I think I'll enjoy it more when I'm completely coherent.

Yeah everyone looked great. I was a little worried about Sif and the Warriors Three since the trailer only shows them in glimpses but they turned out great looking.

You mean an extended theatrical release? Doubt it. I can't even remember the last film that did that. The last big film I can think of that actually released an extended edition DVD was Lord of the Rings.
