I just read ''Batman: The Widening Gyre'' and I must say, Onomatopiea is one of the coolest villians in DC history. I've read all of his appearence (sadly, he doesn't have many ), and they've all been absolutely top-notch. He's an absolute BEAST, Batman himself needed to play possum, so he could get close enough to take Ono down (which he failed to do). He decieved Bruce (EPICLY, Bruce took him inside the Batcave, hugged him and told him secrets (like how he crapped his pants) ) and killed Silver St. Cloud, one of Bruce's many lovers and he didn't just kill her...HE SLIT HER THROAT! Not only that, he's also put a bullet into Connor Hawke's skull, taken half a dozen arrow shots from Oliver Queen and taken a fall off a hospital roof and he still manage to get away, before Queen could rech him. He has also KO'd Black Canary and shot Floyd Lawton in the face (he had a extra layer of Kevlar and blood packs under his mask). Sorry if this post sounds a bit weird, I just got excited, that's all.

Also, Ono seems very good at decieving people, as he has tricked the likes of Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake and he has probable lied to his family countless time.

Never read the Widening Gyre, but I think he's cool. But when it comes down to it, his best feats are just pain tolerance, lol.

Biting that arrow off from point blank was pretty cool, too.

That's a surprise. Smith's DD (Guardian Devil), Spider-Man (the Evil that Men Do), and Green Arrow (Quiver) works ranged from solid to very good.

Never read Quiver. Guardian Devil is probably the only Kevin Smith series I actually liked. Batman Cacophony and The Widening Gyre are awful. I really dislike his characterization of the Batman-verse.

I understand that the Evil that Men Do isn't for everyone, but I thought he got the characterisations right and the characters played off each other nicely while maintaining a serious disposition over the main theme (abuse/rape).
Guardian Devil was simply great, but it's rather "unfortunate" that is collides with Bendis' run, which is basically masterful arc after masterful arc.
Quiver is basically Ollie's "Rebirth" stype of storyarc.
Were his Batman stories self-contained (mini-series) or in Batman/Detective Comics?

I understand that the Evil that Men Do isn't for everyone, but I thought he got the characterisations right and the characters played off each other nicely while maintaining a serious disposition over the main theme (abuse/rape). I guess. I just had a hard time bringing myself to care about Felicia's rape, which is unusual for me because in general tragic events help me appreciate a character more. The reason I read it in the first place was because it was a Spidey/Cat miniseries, but it just left something to be desired for me. Guardian Devil was simply great, but it's rather "unfortunate" that is collides with Bendis' run, which is basically masterful arc after masterful arc. No argument there. Quiver is basically Ollie's "Rebirth" stype of storyarc. I see. Were his Batman stories self-contained (mini-series) or in Batman/Detective Comics? They were miniseries. Cacophony was 3 issues and The Widening Gyre, 6. I have several problems with Smith's writing on Batman, but one of the scenes that stood out to me (not to try to spoil anything if you plan on reading it) was when Jim tried to persuade Batman into allowing Joker to die from blood loss. That is an absolute deviation from Gordon's character. After Joker shot Barbara and psychologically tortured him, Jim told Batman to apprehend Joker rather than kill him to prove that their way works. After Joker murdered Sarah Essen, Jim could have killed Joker but decided not to. He stopped Batman from killing Joker as well. Like I said, many of the nuances, plot points, and character directions in Smith's Batman works bothered me, but that part in particular annoyed me to no end.

Retroactive retcons can have that effect. I just thought it was a good story all around. Not an amazing one, but still good.
I hear what you're saying about his Batman minis. I'd have to read them myself to form a fill opinion, but it sounds iffy as it stands.

@morpheus: Fair enough.
You may very well have a different opinion. Not going to try to formulate your position for you. But as a Batman fan personally, Smith's arcs are not good interpretations of the characters, in my humble opinion.
