Alpha Flight #0.1
Writers: Greg Pak & Fred van Lente
Artist: Ben Oliver w/Dan Green
Canada's premiere super hero team is back in the pages of Alpha Flight 0.1. After being brought back to the land of the living during Chaos War, they're back and fighting crime in their native Canada. Alpha Flight is a government sanctioned team. If you're not familiar with the team here's a quick run down: (These are based on their original powers, not sure if they've changed since their resurrection)
Guardian-Jimmy Hudson wears a super powered battlesuit that grants him a wide array of abilities.
Vindicator-Heather Hudson. Wife of Jimmy and like her husband also wears a super powered battlesuit. You may remember the Hudsons as the couple that found Wolverine after he escaped the Weapon X facility.
Sasquatch-Walter Langkowski transforms into an actual orange sasquatch like creature. In this form he has sufficient strength to battle the Hulk.
Northstar & Aurora-twin brother and sister speedsters. Northstar is also an X-Man. Aurora has light based powers as well. Both can also fly.
Marrina-former wife of Namor. She is an alien that possesses aquatic abilities.
Snowbird-Narya is a woman bound to the land of Canada. She has the ability to transform into any animal native to Canada.
Talisman- Michael Twoyoungman is a mystic similar in powerset to Doctor Strange.
The Issue:
The issue is pretty decent. The team is taking on a couple of different opponents in this issue. One is a guy in an adamantium battlesuit and the other is Kara Killgrave, daughter of the Purple Man. This book is really a preview for the series. It does a decent enough job of introducing you to the core characters and showing off their various powersets. While the battle is going on an election is taking place in Canada. The man elected appears to be a political enemy of the team.
Thoughts:
This issue is simply here to refresh old school Alpha flight fans with the team and introduce them to new readers. There isn't a great deal going on but it serves it's purpose. If you're looking to read the series then I'd recommend it.
