Zatanna #13 "The Cat With The Crystal Ball Eye"
Writer: Paul Dini
Penciller: Jamal Igle
Inker: Jon Sibal
I was in a pretty weird mood today at my LCS and wanted to try something different. I grabbed this and Power Girl #24 and thought I'd review them before the local feminist movement tries to shut down the Ledger.
The Issue:
I haven't read a single issue of Zatanna's new series but this one seemed pretty interesting. She's having some weird dreams and a strange cat outside her home is bringing her messages of strange symbols, Brother Night (apparently one of her arch enemies) and finally a vision of the Spectre.
We see her enemy Brother Night escape from prison and hitch hike back to one of his former hangouts. This guy is a particularly nasty fellow who turns some of his fellow prisoners to skeletons and then uses their bones for a ladder. A guy named Dale Colton is trying to prevent Brother Night from escaping but he doesn't have much luck.
Zatanna meets up with the Spectre and she interrupts him casting vengeance on some poor sap. Zatanna intervenes and turns the guy into a rat and the Spectre is okay with that being his form of torture. The Spectre assures Zatanna they're on good terms (as good as you can be with him I guess) and they part company.
Finally, we see Dale Colton speaking to a woman who informs him that Brother Night is his father.
Thoughts:
To say I have no idea what's going on here is a massive understatement. The story seems pretty interesting so I may stay on for this arc to get an idea of how everything here fits together. This is the first comic I've read with Zatanna in ages and it's a pretty decent read.
