I never really read too much JSA. Maybe I should pick up a few trades, though at this point it would only be to see a quality story. It is not like anything DC is doing or has done will have any relevance in a few months. Ask Beatboks, he'll point you in exactly the right direction then.

My major complaint from an outsiders point of view is that the characters just look dated. Even the young trainees for tomorrow look like their costumes belong in the 60s.

Well, me genera comic art and costume in particular are pretty secondary so it never stopped me. Probably cause my history lessons have hammered home the very important truth that costumes has nothing to do with a person's ability to stomp your face into the mud in half a second flat. But yeah their costumes are "dated" thought DC does that on purpose because it's older heroes teaching younger ones their ways (which also relates unfortunately for you, the sense of fashion)

If Alan Scott is rebooted, I wonder what he will be like. Will he still be elderly? Or will he be a young magic punk type guy?

Lol me too but that is how a lot of magic guys are shown these days in popular media. sad that but totally true, there's actually a guideline amongst dedicated fantasy fans that one of the signs a series is suck is when the main character is a young rebellious but magically gifted hero. There's even a book and website out there done by a collaboration of successful fantasy writers who specifically single that out as something to avoid to when writing.

They are a type of blood-thirsty, carnivorous goblin/ogre/troll in the folklore of the British isles who make Jason Vorees look like a fluffy kitten.
They get their name from their redcaps. That is they wear caps dyed in the blood of the victims they butcher to give them that very special shade of red they like.

I am very hopeful for what the new Wonder Woman history will be. I already know they will not be using her current retcon so that is a good sign for me. But I am also certain that they will not exactly use her Post-Crisis retcon either, much to my dismay.

I'd honestly be satisfied if they just made her the daughter of the queen of the amazons and had her come to mens world for whatever. As long as they really drove home she is an amazon.
(that means, decapitations, war, glory and lots and lots of confidence).

Make her Xena-like?

Post by Crom-Cruach on Jun 4, 2011 18:32:36 GMT -5
Not exactly, Xena wasn't really that badass, especially as the seasons went by. What I mean is make her a warrior, a character with an antiquated code of conduct, the ways of the ancient world etc. Make her a walking glorious beacon of greek mythos badass. Strangling hydras, snapping the necks of lions, castrating douchebags etc. Greek myth is a near relentless onslaught of badassery but Dc has always been too much of a pansy to actually show how badass it is.

I am not sure if bloodlust is the way to go with her. I think it would work for a male character but I feel people just do not enjoy bloodthirsty female characters as much.

None of the things I mentioned above need her to actually be bloodthirsty. Diana should be fightiny hydras, the nemean lion, mythical beasts. This is not even open to debate just make her a true warrior, a badass. That's what I mean. As to liking Blood thirsty females, Red Sonja anyone? In general I think a properly layered and developed strong woman is the way to go with Diana. And such means she needs to be badass.

That may sound like a double standard and it really is but what bloodthirsty female protagonist would you say is a really interesting, three dimensional character that you actually care about?
