Ghost Rider has returned to Marvel with a new series and it's Johnny Blaze under the flaming skull. This is a .1 issue which I don't really understand why it couldn't be simply issue #1. This issue is your basic "brief character bio/Ghost Rider for dummies" issue. It gives a brief refresher course for Mr. Blaze and some insight into his mind. We see GR take down a demon and its vampire partner in crime.
We also see the beginnings of Fear Itself in the Marvel Universe. Blaze doesn't seem to care because he's sitting in a bar getting sloshy drunk. He's approached by a strange man named Adam who promises him he can get rid of the curse of the Rider forever. Blaze tells him there's always a catch and decides to help out a woman in his human guise. She's getting beat up by her boyfriend and it doesn't work out so well for Johnny. He wakes up in the woman's home with plenty of cuts and bruises to show for it.
He rides off as Ghost Rider and tells Adam that he's ready to make a deal. Adam convinces him to eat a tree root and then tells him to drive as fast as he can and that'll rip the Rider off of him. Johnny takes his advice and it seemingly works. Adam then says that the war on sin can begin as this issue comes to a close.
Thoughts:
I haven't read a lot of Ghost Rider but this was a pretty fun opener. The art is pretty good and I'm interested in seeing how things go for Johnny.
