Writer: Jimmy Palmiotti Penciler: Joe Bennett Inker: John Dell Yo Ho! A Pirate's Life For Me! If you can't tell by the cover in the altered world of Flashpoint Deathstroke is a pirate. He's the captain of the Ravager and his mission is a simple one. He's looking for his daughter Rose and he'll pillage any ship sailing the seven seas to do it. His arch rival here is Travis Morgan who's better known as the Warlord. Slade seems to be willing to doanything here to find his daughter. He's joined by a few familiar faces here, most notably Clayface, Icicle and Sonar. They're recruited to Slade's cause after he raids a ship in the seas near Paris. (which is sunk here by the way) We learn that most of Western Europe was sunk in the war between Atlantis and the Amazons. The Amazons are also apparently controlling most of the United Kingdom as their new Themyscira. Deathstroke discovers Rose is being held in Norway and he and his crew set sail for her location. However, their voyage brings them into marked waters. Deathstroke and his crew have been attacked by Emperor Aquaman and his brother Ocean Master... Thoughts: This issue has some great art and a pretty fun alternate take on Slade. The fight brewing for the next issue looks like it's going to be a fun one too. This issue ranks right up there with Booster Gold's Flashpoint issues as my favorite of the minis/tie-ins so far. 8/10

I actually am very unfamiliar with Deathstroke as of yet. So I read this as just some guy looking for his daughter. That is probably why I liked it. Maybe Zoom does not like it because it performed some kind of character assassination?

Maybe Zoom does not like it because it performed some kind of character assassination? She touched on it in her FP review. She thought the pirate thing was just too cliched. I'm far from a Slade expert either, maybe that's why I enjoyed it more.

Maybe Zoom does not like it because it performed some kind of character assassination? Nah. I don't like it because there's no reasoning for Deathstroke being a pirate. He's not a pirate because it makes sense for the character to be a pirate. He's a pirate because he's got an eye patch, a sword and a gun and so they figured he already kinda looked like a pirate so poof! He's a pirate. This is lazy writing. I don't buy the idea that Professor Zoom changed history and Deathstroke ended up a pirate. That doesn't make any sense. I also don't particularly like the idea of Deathstroke only caring about finding Rose. He doesn't seem to care that much about her in regular DC and in fact, he hardly even interacted with her until Johns pretty much assassinated his character in Teen Titans back in 2003. More to the point, Deathstroke actually cares about his sons Grant and Joey in regular DC earth and they aren't even mentioned in this story. It's all just very random and piratey for the sake of being piratey. If you want to tell a story with Deathstroke as a pirate, fine. Make it like Marvel 1602 and just put the character in the appropriate time period. Don't try to shoehorn a Deathstroke as a pirate story into a universe ruined by time travel story.
