Avenging Spider-Man On-Going

Marvel has just unveiled "The Next Big Thing" in their live blog. It is in fact a new on-going series titled "Avenging Spider-Man" written by Zeb Wells and penciled by Joe Madureira.

Here are some excerpts from the blog (thanks to CBM for the following):

"With Dan Slott nailing all the Peter Parker soap opera stuff in Amazing Spider-Man, we wanted to a book about Spider-Man as a super hero, out there in the Marvel Universe with the Avengers. This is the big super action movie of Spider-Man every month, with Joe Mad on art."



The first arc will see Spider-Man and the Red Hulk headed deep underground to deal with the Mole Man and encountering a brand new threat.



The genesis of the book came from when Zeb was working on Amazing Spider-Man and kicked around the idea of bringing Marvel Team-Up back. Steve didn't go for it because he never liked those stories that didn't feel important to the main series. Avenging Spider-Man is Marvel Team-Up but where the stories have a major impact on Spider-Man and the Avengers.



The action will not be limited to New York City. Zeb wants to see Spidey in Asgard.



Zeb says most of the stuff with Peter Parker's personal life will continue to be handled in Amazing Spider-Man, as Dan Slott has "a great hold on that." This series is more action.



One villain Zeb is guaranteeing is The Vulture, as he has an idea.



This book WILL be monthly.

Avenging Spider-Man will not stop Amazing Spider-Man from coming out two times a month.



Steve keeps Dan Slott up to date on Avenging and vice versa, so while for the most part each book will be a venue for the separate creators to tell their stories, they will cross over if the opportunity arises.

Joe Mad's art really looks fantastic, and I will definitely check out this title. What do you think, Ledgers?

I think Zeb Wells needs to stop writing comics.

Not a fan eh? I'm not sure what else he's done, except the recent Carnage mini.

The art looks nicely done, but yeah, not a fan of Wells' work. He has his moments (Shed) but overall, he's underwhelming.

I want to check it out because it just sounds like it is going to be fun. I'm not expecting anything high quality out of it, they pretty much state that in the excerpts from the blog, but it looks fun with great art.

Quite honestly, this sounds like what New Avengers really should be. I mean, the way it's been goin' on for years, and there's still been no development for Spidey, Wolvie, and every other character that's not Tony, Steve, and/or Luke on occasion, this book seems like it could really be good. Based on the description, it gives me somethin' of a Wolverine and the X-Men feel, and I like that.

lol. Yeah, I really don't enjoy how they abuse cash cows and assume the fans will just willingly throw all of their cash at the numerous titles. Hopefully the majority will share our opinion.

Over saturation of a character usually just means I'll get enough of a character without even having to read their solo title. Deadpool, Wolverine and Spider-Man are all over-used IMO. I recently dropped the Way Deadpool title and get my Deadpool fix in Uncanny X-Force. Also I get so much Wolverine in the various X-Men and Avengers books that I don't even read his solo title. I'm still reading ASM and see him in the Avengers books as well, but I won't pick-up FF or this new book. It's too much.

Sweet! It was definitely worth it!!! I've actually been waiting for it to get better for a LONG time and just never did. I'll pick-up a Deadpool solo title again when Rick Remender starts writing one.
