Secret Six: Depths
This trade paperback collects Secret Six issues #8-14.
Issue #8
This is a stand alone issue starring Deadshot, Scandal & Jeanette. This issue is mostly for laughs as Deadshot goes on a date with Jeannette and Scandal tags along with Liana, her stripper friend from the first arc (who coincidentally bears a striking resemblance to her dead ex-lover Knockout). The two couples head to a local dive to hear Liana's cousin's band play. Once they arrive their targeted by the skinhead gang that Deadshot & Catman roughed up in the first arc. However, Deadshot made a promise that he wouldn't kill anyone during date night. Jeannette did no such thing though and the fight ends up as you may expect.
Issue #9
Another stand alone story, this issue stars the other half of the team Catman, Bane & Ragdoll heading to Gotham during the fallout of Bruce Wayne's "death". They put an end to a gang that's attempting to kidnap the children of some of Gotham's richest citizens. They also run into Nightwing who wants them out of his city. There are some good laughs here as a child they save mistakes Catman for Batman and Ragdoll gives him a tough time about it.
Depths Issues #10-14
This is the main story that this trade centers around. The team is hired by a man building a prison on Devil's Island. Below the prison, he's also building a replica of the Nine Levels of Hell from Dante's Inferno. The team also discovers he's keeping a splinter group of the Amazons imprisoned by order of the United States government. This brings the team into direct confrontations with Wonder Woman & Artemis. The proprietor of the island has also hired the demonic beast Grendel as a sort of insurance policy in case things go wrong. As usual witht eh S6 things go terribly wrong and the team has to fight for its survival against Grendel and the security forces of the prison.
Thoughts:
The first two stand alone issues are a lot of fun and the main story is too. The Six always seem to find themselves in some of the strangest situations in the DCU and this arc is no exception. It's always a fun tale with strong explorations into each character involved.
8/10 Another great Secret Six story for my favorite mercs for hire.
