Sinestro is often speculated as being the greatest GL of all time, but I just haven't seen enough from him to support this. Quite frankly, I'm not convinced he was nearly as good of a GL as opposed to where he is now (especially after seeing him vs. the Weaponer recently). Kyle's feats always stood out the most for me.
So what do you guys think?

I'm not certain, but I think Sinestro being the "greatest" Green Lantern only came about with Johns. Either way, Kyle is the best one. For me at least.

I think as far as Johns is concerned, Sinestro has a lead over all GLs, possibly even over Hal, whom we all know is a favorite of Johns'. In Rebirth, it required the combined efforts of both Hal and Kyle to subdue Sinestro, and that was prior to the formation of his Corps. In terms of theoretical power levels and discernible information based on fights, Sinestro may be above Kyle but only in Johns' work. But in terms of objective feats, Kyle should be more powerful than Sinestro.

Since, they've been bumped up (or he's been bumped down, depending on your POW)

I still don't see any "massive edge" in Kyle's solo book (just the stuff he did in JLA). In his on-going, he regularly had trouble with people that would likely give some pause to Spider-Man, sure. But not a Lantern. So, yeah, great feats in team books, overally meh feats in his solo unless we're talking HoG Ion, or Guardian of the Universe.

I spend some time after typing this, trying to find some really dangerous Kyle villains (to make sure I wasn't selling him short); Grayven, and Nero were pretty much the only ones I could come up with, with Effigy being an honorable mention (despite not beng all that powerful). At least until # 120+ of his on-going, I gave up on Judd Winick afterwards.
That being said, I haven't seen anything from Sinestro's time as a GL to call him the greatest, either. Is he the best ring wielder (regardless of colour) currently? Damn straight. Is he the best GL ever? No evidence to support it, so, no.

I failed to notice that the thread was asking about Sinestro's skill as a GL in particular rather than just a Ring wielder of any spectrum. The latter is what my initial response was more geared toward.

It's cool. You know I love Sinestro (likely more than any other ring wielder) but his showings as a GL are pretty limited. Johns has said he does intend to write a Sinestro focused sequel to Secret Origin in the near future, though, so we'll likely see more action from him in that era.

Probably so, but comparing Kyle and Sinestro purely by their feats as Green Lanterns seems to favor Kyle much more since he has had a considerably greater number of showings in that area.

Sure. I just think calling either one of them the greatest ever is a stretch.

And I have no disagreement with that. The Corps has been alive for a long time. There are completely unknown Lanterns who, for all we know, may make Kyle's best feats look like child's play.
This is unrelated to the topic, but in regards to who the most powerful GL is currently, I might say Mogo, although proving that would be difficult because he is not usually placed in combat situations.

Yeah, Kyle, Hal, John and Guy all agreed Mogo was the most powerful GL currently (or, rather, before his demise), but proving that is indeed difficult.

Honestly, speaking on a base level, it only makes sense for Mogo to be the most powerful. I really hate to use the "He's bigger; that means he's stronger" argument, but really, who in the world can compete with a freaking planet?
LOL.

Do you think John destroying Mogo was out of character? Honestly, speaking on a base level, it only makes sense for Mogo to be the most powerful. I really hate to use the "He's bigger; that means he's stronger" argument, but really, who in the world can compete with a freaking planet? LOL. Well, a planet buster obviously. Just kidding. I remember having this exasperating argument with the trolls back at ComicVine.

That sounds like the obvious choice for that, when there are other factors to be weighed in. As for arguing fruitlessly with Viners, I know what you mean.
