What are some characters that had potential, but died or was put out of commision so that they were short live, that you would like to see again. If not that, someone else take up their mantle?
I'll start off with the Suicide Squad villain, Catseye.
martial arts expert with meta stats. Good enough to throw down with Bronze Tiger, so definately impressive.

John motherf**king Proudstar. I remember the first time I started getting interested in the X-Men and I started reading some old issues of the "All New All Different" team. I was like, "Dude! This Thunderbird guy is really cool! Why haven't I heard of him in more recent X-Men comics?" Two issues later..... "Oh." I still chalk it up to one of the most unnecessary deaths in comic book history. Usually, one of the only good reasons for killing off a character is to keep the readers interested. But the X-Men had had a major roster change two freaking issues ago. They wouldn't need another attention-grabber for a long time. /rant

There was a reference to Dr Rot in Wolverine # 8 (easy to miss, though).
Can't say I see the appeal of the character, though. Yes, he was formidable in his own way (and under specific circumstances), but no personality to him other than that.

Well, he was able to unravel a way to pretty much control Logan any time he wants to. He's also probably one the most sadistic characters I've ever witnessed, but also very tactical. I think he has a high ceiling.....

Feedback is another one. Very original background, easy to relate to and his power set was fairly unique.

I just read Wolverine #8. Didn't pick up on a Dr. Rot reference, though.
