Stewart Trautmann was a soldier in the war in Afghanistan when his convoy hit a land mine. In the ensuing explosion, his spine was fractured and he is paralyzed from the waist down. He's since returned home and become an astronomy lecturer at Caldon University. He's constantly annoyed bu his older brother James overprotecting him when it comes to his new found condition. He also believes that his being in a wheelchair scares a lot of people away.
Stewart is on the roof of one of the buildings at his university for a meteor shower party. He invites Lily, a woman he's interested to join him. The two are getting set for the meteor shower when one of the meteors crashes into the building they are in. Stewart and Lily are caught in the rubble and only still alive because he's holding up a wall that has collapsed. His strength is about to give out when the cause of the collapse is revealed. It isn't a meteor at all, it's an alien in a battlesuit. The alien is also severely injured and transfers itself to Stewart. He then finds himself wearing the same battlesuit and has no problem escaping the rubble. He teleports Lily to a local hospital and then tries to figure out what's happening to himself.
Thoughts:
I didn't want to reveal much more so this was rather brief. This is a pretty cool story and feels different from mainstream comics today. It's a story that's not bogged down by a lot of history or previous continuity and it makes for a fun read.
