This trade paperback collects Captain America 25-30. In anticipation of the upcoming film, I thought some Cap reviews were in order. This arc is centered around Bucky Barnes, Sharon Carter, the Falcon, Black Widow and Tony Stark.
The Marvel Civil War is over and Steve Rogers has turned himself in to end the struggle. However, things don't go according to plan and Steve is assassinated. The main culprit is Crossbones who's working with Aleksander Lukin (who's battling the Red Skull for control of his mind) and the Skull's daughter Sin. We find out in this story that Crossbones wasn't exactly working alone.
Bucky is on the trail of Crossbones but also has his sights set on Tony Stark (as Tony was the director of SHIELD at the time), whom he holds responsible for Cap's death. His first act is stealing Cap's shield from SHIELD custody and battling his former colleague Black Widow in the process. The Falcon and Sharon Carter are also involved in the hunt for the Red Skull.
Everything comes together pretty nicely at the end of this 6 issue arc and I'm eager to get the next trade to see where it goes. I wasn't reading comics at this point in Marvel history so all of this is pretty fresh and exciting for me.
Thoughts:
This is a great read and I can't wait for the next trade. It's one of those stories where you know what happens in the end but the greatness is in the details. Brubaker does a nearly flawless job of tying everyone involved together here.
