If you've been following the X-Men event 'Schism,' you know it's no secret there's a major conflict brewing between Cyclops and Wolverine. But could this actually lead to the death of Scott Summers? According to IGN, a few remarks at San Diego Comic Con imply the original X-Man might indeed die. Speaking about the conclusion of Schism, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said "We don't know that Cyclops is going to be around, either. It could be someone else carrying on those ideas." And when asked "Are you killing Cyclops?" by a fan, the reply was "Read Schism." Is it finally time for the original leader of the X-Men to end up six feet under, or do you want him to carry on? Discuss.

Cyke is the quintessential X-Men leader, and I'd definitely not choose Emma to replace him if it ever came down to it. She doesn't inspire loyalty, respect, or fear to anyone. She's just hollow bravado in a stripper outfit.

Wonder who would be the leader of the team of X-men after schism since there breaking off and its going to be Wolverine and X-Men #1 and Uncanny X-men #1 which I thought would be led by Cyclops unless he dies.

Hello Sam Gutherie anyone? As much as I agree with Morpheus' statement about Emma, Sam would be even worse. He's just not fit for leadership. A lot of people don't even know who he is.

Cannonball isn't a bad leader, but just imagine him trying to tell Magneto what to do.

Cannonball isn't a bad leader, but just imagine him trying to tell Magneto what to do. He's not a bad leader, just one that nobody knows. I don't want to see him leading the X-Men into battle, and everyone else is saying, "Who's that flying guy leading the X-Men?"

I'd rather have a leader who is unknown and not bad at what he does, than have one who can't lead at all (while viewing this within context and not from a sales standpoint). Which is the route Marvel is apparently following with Emma.

If he dies, I'll be reading that issue to make sure he is dead.

And a year later, you'll be reading Cyclops: Reborn, to make sure he's alive again.

If he dies, I'll be reading that issue to make sure he is dead. If he dies I might just make a poster out of the panel where it is shown in the comic

I wouldn't be surprised if they killed Scott, I would be surprised if he stayed dead for any significant amount of time though. This is crazy, but what about Magneto stepping in to a leadership role with the X-Men?

Honestly they have done so much killing off in X-Men I don't think that is what the book needs at all. Cyclops should stick around, they honestly don't have anyone to replace him.

Magneto would be the most logical (and entertaining) choice, but, no, Marvel thinks the telepathic stripper has what it takes to lead Cyke's crew.
