All in all it was not the worst show I ever had seen but I could not honestly call it good. It seemed to go through a roller coaster of quality throughout the episode. My file is just after production so the effects had not been cleaned up yet. Despite that, the end fight scene was actually really well done for a television show. Some actors were really great, some extremely flat. Whoever wrote the show's score needs to be fired.... er before the show got canceled.
Things that were great about the show:
- Fight scene. I still saw the wires and all that crap that would have been rubbed out in post production but it was still pretty good.
- Elizabeth Hurley. First of all she is damn hot and secondly she was basically channeling The Devil from Bedazzled the entire time, adding to her hotness.
- Tracie Thoms. Wonder Woman's secretary basically. She actually did really well.
- The two Wonder Woman outfits. She actually wears both for the show and the reason they exist at all is explained in a very modern, business-driven and believable way. She wears the outfit to sell her action figure, which her costume is designed after. It literally is just a costume save for the bracelets and the lasso. Though I do think more realism could have been put into those two things since they were supposed to the the "real" parts of her costume.
Things that were okay about the show:
- The plot. Revealing the big bad pharmaceutical company is generic but fairly believable. Also touching on the very human side of Wonder Woman. How things people say about her often cut her pretty deeply. That and she is a very lonely character.
- Adrianne Palicki. She looks great and her acting was not terrible. It was like watching Lois Lane from Smallville the entire 40 minutes if Lois Lane had powers.
- Dr. Phil. Yeah he makes an appearance. Just a funny little scene while Diana is watching herself get crucified on television.
- The cinematography. It was just okay, much like the show as a whole. Angles that just do not work quite as well as others could have. Minor stuff but I feel it needs to be mentioned since I almost always judge such things when reviewing movies.
Things that were dogshit about the show:
- Cary Elwes. He plays Wonder Woman's CEO and he is about as fake as can be. Does anyone remember him on Liar Liar? Yeah that is exactly what he is like here only fatter.
- Pre-Post Production CGI (but again, this is before cleanup).
- Minor cast. They all sucked. Everyone with a speaking line read it like those high school kids you see practicing for a part in a commercial.
- Justin Bruening. Not impressed with the love interest. It is like they grabbed some random "hottie" off the street. He just was not a convincing actor and his lines were generally unreal teen-drama garbage.
- There was a hospital scene where WW interrogates a prisoner and a minor character (who was not present in the scene) said some line. It was something that I am guessing is a result of a scene change and one snippet of dialogue was missed. Just another thing that would have been caught post production.
- The score. It was abysmal. Like listening to early 90s stuff. You know, like Beethoven (the dog, not the person).
Aside from a few flaws the show had, I think it actually could have made it. I agree with the general consensus that it is like Smallville. In my opinion, the show had a lot of potential. The flaws that it did have were outweighed by the good points. If it were my type of show, I can honestly say I would have watched it regularly. By my type of show, I mean Smallville-type show. So overall I would give this show my personal grade of 4 out of 10 with potential for better. However, if you are a Smallville, Hercules or Xena fan, you would likely have given this show a 6-7 out of 10 which would have been enough for success.
