According to various sources, multiple Norwegain retailers are removing violent video games from their shelves after the terrorist attack that killed seventy seven people.
Andres Behring Breivik, the man behind the shooting and bombing, allegedly "trained" for the horrific event with popular video games like Call of Duty and Homefront.
The Director of Sales at Coop Norway Geir Inge Stokke stated, "In light of Friday's horrific events, and [with] respect for those affected, we have chosen to remove simple items from our [lineup]."
Breivik claims he was driven by an anti-Islamic goal. According to the Guardian, he could face 21 years or more in prison.
What do you think? Do you support the move to take away violent video games in the nation, or is it a pointless attempt?

This is just people trying to blame the quickest thing they can set their sights on.
I really doubt the terrorist in question was driven by some mad urge to reenact Call of Duty. Nobody sits at home and plays Duke Nukem and decides to get a bad haircut and some firearms. If he was he probably would have enlisted in the military. By the same logic, anyone who plays Sports video games will soon find themselves driven to become professional athletes. It's ludicrous.
But I'm not without sympathy. They obviously don't ever want that sort of thing to happen again and they're taking what, in their minds, is the best preventative steps available. Unfortunately I think this is a problem with the individual, not Norwegian culture.

Completely agreed. I think it's a kneejerk reaction to do anything possible, but it's a pointless effort. He was driven by his personal agenda, and that motive means he would seek that "training" anywhere possible. And at the end of the day, anyone who thinks games like Call of Duty are good for actual combat training....Well, that's just rather dense. Last time I checked, only tweens playing CoD seemed to have that impression

I'm pretty sure the reason that person killed them kids, was because he didn't like the way the country was being run, and the direction it was going.
What's that got to do with games? Don't see them stopping government stuff do you?

The article says why they decided to pull games--- the Christian terrorist claims he used them to "train."

See what religion does to the world. No, a rational being, who isn't a fanatic religions person wouldn't go out and kill. Kill because they're psycho like every other killer. Unless it's self-defence. That hits the moral grey area.

Religion doesn't justify his actions. He's just trying to use it to justify it to himself.
Adolf Hitler believed his actions were God's will. I'm sure it's pretty unanimous that he was gravely mistaken. This guy is too. He is a stain upon whatever he tries to identify himself as but I know his views are not a reflection of Christians or any faith.

I thought it's a funny quote. It's not intended to be used as a legitimate argument. Obviously, no belief warrants or justifies such a crime.

AFAIK, the Nazis and Hitler himself never used religion to justify themselves, doing so from a simply genetic standpoint. In fact I think Hitler was quite hostile towards religion. This does not make what you said wrong in any way, I just wanted to point that out. On topic, using games to practice for a terrorist attack is bleeding retarded, and anyone who proposed it is equally retarded. Shooting a virtual gun in Call of Duty does not make you prepared to aim and fire a real gun by any stretch of imagination. This incident simply shows how people in charge still haven't completely grasped what video games are and how far their influence can go, and thus are staying on the safe side by just labeling them evil.

A psycho used a videogame to train. Therefore, the videogame is what made him psychotic. That makes sense.......... Fucking idiots.

This is factually innacurate but I won't derail the thread unless I am asked As to the OP topic. They should take away RPGS them, less they find themselves swamped with evil master necromancers
