Professor Zoom is a scientist named Eobard Thawne, and Flash aficionado from the 25th (was it?) century. He is empowered by the negative Speed Force, the antithesis of Barry Allen's own. His powers include, but are not limited to: superspeed and reflexes (duh), as of recently on a superior degree at least to that of Barry Allen's, if not of every member of the Flash family in general, time travel (forward and backwards in time), disintegrating touch (he can rapidly age others to dust), manipulation of his own age at will (from an old man to a kid), and likely others I forget.
Zoom used to be an ally of the Flash (Wally West), a profiler, for lack of a better word. He was involved in an incident that left him paralysed, and asked Wally to use the cosmic treadmill in order to travel back in time and prevent it. Wally refused, deeming it too dangerous to tamper with the timestream. Hunter Zolomon (his real name) thought Wally hadn't experienced real loss in his life, so he couldn't really understand him. He tried to use the treadmill himself, the attempt backfired, and he was granted the ability to manipulate his own time frame, either accelerating it, or slowing it down, at will. That's basically his only power: extreme manipulation of his own time frame, even though during Guggenheim's run, he also time travelled and phased through walls, or some other nonsense. His goal was to improve Wally as a hero, through villainous acts.
