I also like that one of the very few things the Surfer is incapable of doing in the comics, is raise the dead. But that's one of the few things he does in the film.

All this just points to a lack of care in the writers, producers, and director. They were just pushing out a title to have fans dump money on them. I actually thought the first movie was horrible as well but next to the patched together sequel, it was a masterpiece.

If you guys really want to speak about screwing with canon, let's dive into Wolverine: Origins.

Awesome action-thriller with a futuristic shine to it. Will Smith plays a technophobic cop (Del Spooner) out to prove that machines are the worst thing to happen to man. When it turns out he is right, he might not be able to handle it. Smith is provided with plenty of one-liners but it is not over the top. Bridget Moynahn is beautiful as always and her character's (Susan Calvin) intelligence and wit is a nice foil for Del's paranoia and sarcasm. Alan steals the show as the robot with a mind of his own, calling himself Sonny. Interesting because we never get to see the actual actor throughout the entire film. Sonny is trying to deal with his father's death as well as trying to find his purpose, which he believes Spooner has a part in. Plenty of action that sometimes goes over the top a bit but is easily forgiven with the thought provoking, underlining message of our dependancy on machines. Shia's role in the movie was probably to provide comedic relief in what may have been feared to be slow points, but I found his character to be awkward and out of place in the movie. The tunnel scene was awesome. As soon as you see the panel doors open on the USR trucks, you and Spooner both know you are in for a wild ride. As he puts it, "There is no way my luck is that bad..." just before the mayhem begins. Then of course there is the robots fighting robots, which is nice treat. It was also great to see such a sleek and futuristic look for the NS-5s in comparison to the NS-4s. CGI is very good and polished, plot is good, script is not bad, and it has a solid cast. Spooner, Susan, and Sonny get some great development for an action/thriller. A must see if you are a fan of any of those quality performers. I gave this movie a 4.5 out of 5.

This is an exceptional piece of work. A movie that follows the path of a gangster who had his fill of violence and tried to make a quiet life for himself. Marrying, having children and having found value in it. All that is brought to a screeching halt when two criminals try to kill someone in his diner. Tom Stall, played by Viggo springs into action and saves the day. It is the story of the week in his small town which unfortunately, gets the attention of some old friends. This movie has plenty of Violence, as the title would suggest, but it also is heavily focused on the relationships of the Stall family. The daughter's nightmare of the monsters within her home sets up the movie. The son is a reflection of Tom in that violence literally begets violence. The implied highly sexual relationship with his wife and her desire for more, which she certainly gets. Not only does she get more, but on some perverse level she likes it (her husband being bad) and she is ashamed with herself because of that. For knowing that that darkness is not only in the man she loves, but within her as well. Ed Harrison is a great villain that makes an all too soon exit. It was perfectly placed, but who would not want more Harrison? It is a perfectly shot movie. Every little scene is extremely important to the development of the characters and of the plot. The music is also well done. There is a lot of violence in this film but not even close to being overdone. It is very graphic as well. So graphic that two scenes were scaled back a bit for the US release to not be too offensive. Yet all of it is done in such a way that it stays very real. Almost subtle in comparison to some action or thriller flicks. It is not the volume, but the realism that sticks with you afterwards. Great plot. Great script. Great immersion. Great movie. I actually liked it much better than the comic book, which is rare for me. I gave this movie a solid 5 out of 5. Go see it. Go buy it.

LOL.
There are so many complaints, but a personal favorite? A man with enhanced senses finds his girlfriend allegedly killed in the forrest. She's drenched in blood. A) He doesn't notice the blood is simply spilled on her, and there are no wounds. B) He doesn't hold a burial service or any kind or memorial service for her. Otherwise, he would have seen her... You know, WAKE UP. He just goes "RAWR SABRETOOTH!"
While I'm at it, a few other things. A) The fluxuation in fighting ability. Creed is Wolverine's clear superior, but when Wolverine gets adamantium, it makes him more SKILLED? B) Deadpool. Nuff said? Also, how the hell does he bend his arms with the blades retracted? They were over two feet long, going well past the elbow. C) Gambit... The man has the agility to run up a building and jump off of one, but he can leap from a ladder while it's shaking? D) Gambit ATTACKS Wolverine, despite knowing who Sabretooth is and seeing him. E) I don't have the energy to go on, but god damn, there's a lot more.

Overall I enjoyed the movie, but I thought the direction and some of the acting was pretty weak (especially the female lead. I can't remember her name). Still, I didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as I had been told.

We could also get into a bullet ruining Wolverine's mind or how an adamantium bullet fired from a common gun somehow has the velocity to pierce adamantium in the first place.
Maverick! Dammit to hell!
The only light in that movie was Liev Schreiber. I actually like his version of Creed.
Hugh Jackman really let me down. Especially since I liked him as Wolverine.

Richard Donner is the perfect director for this movie and makes a normally uneventful 118 minute trip of 16 blocks turn into a roller coaster ride of action, thrills, and nail biting drama. Instead of good cop crazy cop versus the heroine dealers, we get burnt out cop and a criminal versus very bad cops. Great introduction. I always love the recorded messages for introductions. It isn't used often because of what it implies happens to the protagonist but it was nicely done here with the black and white scenes. Then the Besame song during the police raid was a nice touch. John Mclane er... Jack Mosley is truly a drunk, tired, broken-down New York detective that no one respects or believes in. You get a real feel for his depression when he tells Mos Def that "Life's too long and guys like you make it longer." The movie only settles down long enough for you to enjoy Mos Def's character and his seemingly nonstop chatter, which brings some levity to the movie in the sense that it lets you ease back into your seat just before the heart pumping action starts up again. Mos Def steals the show and really develops Eddie Bunker, who wants to open a bakery should he survive this ordeal. David Morse plays the head crooked cop Frank Nugent, who used to be Jack's partner for 20 years. He always does a really good job as a villain because he brings a sharp, manipulative intelligence to the role. Throughout the movie, Frank tries to talk Jack into the easy way, the look the other way route. We discover that Jack has done this before and has been tired of the department for a while and finally discovers his backbone and chooses the right path, even though it is the hard one and even one that might end his life. No matter which ending you choose to watch, it is a good movie with great actors, great plot, and great action. Movies of redemption are always fun to watch. I give this movie a solid 4 out of 5.

I saw this as well and it was awesome. The villain was scary in the best way. You found yourself rooting for him at first but then you start to notice just how far he goes and suddenly you find yourself afraid of him.
Great review Erik.

Those animal rights activists ruin everything! In this case, they unintentionally release an infection on the human race. The fist movie to get people thinking about fast zombies.... Although they are not really zombies but rather virus infected humans. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire ride. Not a dull moment in the movie. Cillian Murphy does an excellent job and we see his character go from a frightened, confused individual, to a strong leader and protector. Danny Boyle does an amazing job with this film and does so much with so little. I enjoyed how he did not feel the need to load the movie with overblown effects or packing every shot with the infected. So much terror was inspired from just one or two infected chasing the protagonist down that more was not needed. There is also the underlining message of humanity and where do we decide that it no longer applies, especially with the military. A great movie and one that I watch over and over again. I gave this movie a 4 out of 5.

The only issue I have with this movie is that it has nothing to do with the damn book it's named after.
