The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya Story:Take a good look at the title and take a guess, good chance your'll hit the mark. ( Spoiler Free) It's December the 16th, our protagonist Kyon finds himself making his way to the SOS Brigade Club room where Haruhi will reveal some sort of plot for her own entertainment; which in this case is a Nabemono party for Christmas. This is the prologue to the actual story. We get our introduction of our main characters and how everything is. Then rolls out December 18th, where Kyon wakes up in a world that doesn't resemble the one he went to sleep in the day before. And you guessed it: Haruhi, along with all the weirdness that follows her, is now gone. The world is normal. Kyon, to say the least, doesn't handle this well at all. What do you do when the whole world has changed looking at you as if you're the one that is out of place? In Kyon's case he tries to solve this mystery and ultimately he will have to make some really big decisions of how he will continue on. (Subject to Opinion) Good:- Yuki Nagato. This is a story that is heavy on her, which is great, because Yuki is awesome. Can't debate that. - Largely sticks to the story in the Manga: Which is great, because that was my favorite story arc so far. What differences we do see in the film version are welcomed. - Character Growth / Depth to the story. This isn't a movie with a horde of flashy animated fights. It's all about it's characters and the mystery of what has happened to the world. Who did it and why? The past will be referenced or in some cases revisited as Kyon pushes through the story. And as mentioned before; Kyon will be making the important choices when all is said and done, Kyon and Yuki becoming stronger characters from it. - Run-time of 163 minutes. Wait that is a good thing? Yep. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is in absolutely no hurry to get to the end. We will stick with Kyon throughout, watch him break, pick himself up and push forward. And we will love it. - Music. Can't go wrong with Gymnopedies, along with the rest of the soundtrack. It's good stuff and compliments scenes nicely. - Story revolving around my two favorite characters in the franchise, how is that not win? - Legitimate feeling scenes, whether that is emotionally or "Ouch that looks like it hurt." - The animation is fantastic. - Time Travel and the alias John Smith, what can go wrong? Bad:- Might lack the full punch of you haven't seen select episodes from the series. Outside that, no it's awesome. Favorite Animated Film in the last Decade. If not my new favorite animated film period. This is of-course completely opinion and your own will vary. Some guy watched this movie a hundred times(http://asosbrigade.com/), even flying to the USA to watch it for the 100th time. Can't be all bad right? Episodes you might want to watch prior: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Parts (1-6) The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya Parts (3-5) Endless Eight 1 & 8 Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody <-- Very important in general for the franchise to be honest. I mention these mainly to better get an idea of what Yuki Nagato and the rest of the cast. Referenced but nothing important: Mystérique Sign Remote Island Syndrome Parts(1-2) Good chance if you watch this at all you've already seen this stuff.

Read 4 times? At least 2-3 from me? Holy crap. Maybe I should have just written in the title: "This is a really good !@#$ing movie." And it is. Even if to fully appreciate it you have to watch a good measure of the first season and a few episodes from the second season. Shame Shame my fellow ledgers!

Thanks for posting always looking for anime to watch I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I actually didn't even have any plans to make it a thread, but I liked it way to much to shove it in another thread. I knew it would be good and I really liked it's manga counter part(best arc so far for the franchise that I can actually read), but the movie just blew me away and from what I've been reading in a lot of reviews from it's original release its had that effect on quite a few people. It's really well animated, really well dubbed and really well written. I'm loving Crispin Freeman in this and shocked at how well Michelle Ruff came off as Yuki here. I'd post clips of some of these scenes but outside the one in the sig, they give a little too much away as to the mystery or reveal some surprises for the viewer. If you plan on getting the DVD / blue ray( it's a combo, which is made of win) awesome, if not the dub and the subbed versions are already all over the place. (cough cough www.youtube.com/user/MultiAnimeShows cough cough) Anyways, mission accomplished: Someone actually read this thread and might get around to actually seeing it. UP UP AND AWAY!

I put off watching this like 3 times. I can't remember the reasons. But if I look again, I'll remember them.

There are like 2 maybe 3 animé with a decent dub. A dub better than the original for me is Tenchi Muyo. The American cast for that is great.

Always a fan of Crispin and the guy is pretty hilarious to boot.

Another example of a better American voice.
Japanese Audio
American (guy who said the 9000 line best: Brian Drummond)
So there are cases. But I usually prefer the Japanese cast.

Now that Crom has given this thread his blessings it is a complete success! On a more serious note, shame you aren't going to give it a shot(or the series itself). I wouldn't be surprised if you actually liked it.

Was that directed at me or Crom? If your talking about my response, I am quoting Crom. I didn't really have anything to disagree with your post as some dubs are god awful( Slayers looking at you). I'm running under the assumption that you've already seen some of said episodes and may watch the film eventually. I(much like you since you can't remember) don't know what reasons you have to make you put it off.

Features and focuses on overexcited anime schoolgirls so likelyhood not. Kinda. Kyon( or John Smith, since no one knows his actual name) is the character we experience the story through. It's why we get to enjoy the Crispin Freeman's narration and humor throughout. And while the plot does tend to revolve around Haruhi, Kyon is the guy we follow around. Heck Haruhi is hardly in this film as is, since it more so focuses on Kyon and Yuki. And outside Haruhi herself, who would probably a better fit to describe as eccentric rather then always overly excited(If this was the case, then the Espers wouldn't have much to do) or direct. Outside her, Mikuru is more akin to a frightened rabbit(as her younger incarnation, not the older "supersize" me version) and Yuki remains more akin to a TNG Data without his emotion chip for the most part, at least till this film.

I stand by my disinterested "eh" Which is completely fine in my book, without some basic interest for you to actually give it( manga, anime or film) a shot I doubt I could type anything up that could really change your mind on it. The best I can do is stick to what I've said so far, clear up what misunderstandings anyone has behind the series and continue to mention how incredibly awesome the film is. Outside that, I'd love to post some clips but my favorite scenes in the film do have spoilers / fun twists( Kyon's Question and Answer Time / Kyon's choice comes to mind Spoilers abundant if you watch it). Either way, Crispin Freeman was fantastic in this film. Fun fact: Crispin and Sheh are apparently Doctor Who fans, which is awesome in on itself. Given Kyon nabs the John Smith alias and Mikuru is the time traveler. Although for those interested I've already given a link to someone's channel any of you that are interested in watching the series or the film can go and enjoy it."Cough cough www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdFPeRRl1Z8&feature=related Cough cough"
