I've never actually seen a good, imersive story from Blizzard, ever. Warcraft storyline was passable at best. Starcraft's storyline isn't great and Diablo's storyline might as well have never existed. Blizzard is great at gameplay and graphics (for the engine they use). But if they could just get some actual writers with talent to make their stories, like the guys at obsidian or mass effect's crew. They'd rock. Diablo's storyline rebooted could be a great setting exploring demonic influences, the war between light and dark etc. Really, you get the sense there is a world to explore with Diablo. Blizzard just never actually makes the effort. Give us compelling NPCS, dramatic moments with gravitas, make us care about defeating the villains etc. Blizzard's games are all almost entirely focused on mindless or competitive inter-player game play. Sadly that is not what an RPG is about if you ask me.

That's not what an RPG is about, but that is (at least half) of what an MMO RPG is, which is what Diablo and WoW are.

I got no beef with Starcraft's story. Seems to have all the right stuff to me.
Diablo I can see your point but really what you are saying is that you want character development with your player character. That is not what Diablo is really about, which is cool in my opinion. YOU are the character. The hates and likes of the game are yours, not a character you are forced to take the opinion of. The story unfolds through events and character development of those around you.
But it boils right down to the Diablo series is an item-quest RPG. That is the beauty of the randomization and thus, its replayability. You do not get that with most other RPGs. You know how many RPGs I have played? I lost count. You know how many were so deep and epic, that to this day I remember the intricacies of every detail? Not a single one. An ultra thick story is not always a great thing.

Well all I can say is I respectfully disagree. To me a game without an engrossing story has zero replayability. Whereas games with an incredible story and multiple endings I can replay over and over just to see great moments again and try alternate story paths. Honestly, I tolerate buggy mechanics ten times over in an RPG if the story is awesome. This is why I actually like Alpha Protocol whom got torn down by a lot of critics.
Stats, powers and levels are meaningless if whatever you play has no bearing and I have no reason to care about the story or it's characters. But that's just the kind of gamer I am. I can't stand MMOs either and an RPG without a good story, no matter how well it's done when it comes to mechanics and graphics is always a failure to me if the story sucks.

So last week they announced that they are pushing the release date from Christmas 2011 to early 2012. This is a heartbreaking revelation. See the article here: us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/3552227

I've been hearing it is likely it could be pushed back to Q1 2012 for some time now, and it is in no way surprising.

This is just how Blizzard operates. They do not do the deadline business. They do the "We finish it when we finish it" deal and really, it is a good policy. It means their games are generally better comparatively than others that launch while still dealing with balance issues and bugs.

Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo properties aren't massively popular for no reason, you're right.

I thought this was too awesome to pass up. It is a class specific item for the Monk, which is the only H2H class for the game.
