Comic-Con: 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Confirmed, 'Thor' And 'Captain America' Sequels Get New Titles

This, True Believes, is why people stock up on coffee and snacks, pull up lawn chairs and do whatever it takes to endure those horrendously long lines for Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con: Marvel's "Iron Man 3" panel unleashed a torrent of information about several in-production properties including "Guardians of the Galaxy," the sequels to "Thor" and "Captain America" and much more.

The proceedings kicked off with a montage looking back on the last several years of Comic-Con presentations, including a bit from Marvel Films honcho Kevin Feige talking about how he'd love to see an Avengers movie way back in the pre-schawarma days of 2006. The montage wrapped up with these incredibly exciting words: "PHASE TWO BEGINS… NOW!" And boom, here came the Marvel bombshells faster than you can say "Excelsior!"

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is definitely happening. Concept art was shown. The team's lineup -- Star-Lord, Draxx the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket Racoon (!) and Gamorra - was revealed. Steve Rogers' next cinematic chapter will officially be titled "Captain America: Winter Soldier," which was met with huge applause. His Mjolnir-wielding Asgardian teammate's next outing will officially be titled "Thor: The Dark World."

Edgar Wright may have tweeted about being in London but - boom! - there he was on the Hall H stage, "Ant Man" test footage in tow! We couldn't see who was wearing the mask, of course, but we saw a great fight scene where Hank Pym pops in and out of various sizes. "He's going to kick your ass one inch at a time," declared the "Shaun of the Dead" filmmaker, just after the audience saw the hero bust somebody's tooth.

A nice, meaty chunk of "Iron Man 3" footage confirmed that Ben Kingsley is definitely playing The Mandarin after all. Things got meta when Tony Stark chastised Happy Hogan for quitting on him and his former driver complained about all of the time Iron Man has been spending with his "super friends." Happy himself, "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau, joined Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle (who dons the Iron Patriot armor), Feige and "Iron Man 3" director Shane Black on stage where they joked, chided, ribbed and laughed their way through a rollicking good time.

I like that Marvel is shooting for the stars, as it were, with Guardians of the Galaxy. All of their movies have been wildly popular so far, but all of the characters they've been using already have massive fan bases. This movie really just feels like they want to challenge themselves now, and see if they can keep up this track record using characters with very small fan bases.

Winter Soldier? YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES.
I'm still skeptical about the writers of Community directing this though.

Ant-Man is confirmed? Ok. I don't really care much about the character, but I'm down with that.
They'd better not have him hit Jan though.

The only one I care about is Thor. They'd better make it better then the first one and toss out all the stuff that was wrong with it to make an awesome Thor movie.

I'm interested in seeing how Rocket Raccoon is handled - he seems about the most challenging character in this entire lot of movies.

Thor should be sticking off planet for this film. From what I've read so far about this; I'm thinking Thor's heading to Svartalfheim to beat-up dark elves.

No idea how (or even if) this will tie into the larger narrative in the Marvel Universe.

It's irrelevant where the movie is set. What matter is to make the movie feel like gods combating mythical enemies. Thor is one of my favorite marvel characters and he rarely gets the respect he deserves.

It's doubtful you're going to see anything mythical on Earth unless it came from Thor's corner of the universe to begin with. At least not till Marvel starts putting more mystical characters into the mix.

Given the lack of being depowered and the likelihood of running around on one of the realms - good chance he will be smashing things from the Thor mythos around - if he will be drinking oceans, benching the midgard serpent or what have you - probably not.

Nothing is impossible, but any team that takes on that challenge would have to completely dive into the concept of Thor's status as a divinity - which is a leap for most members of an audience to take.

Most depictions of gods in cinema - tend to be incredibly lousy - as far as I've seen. So it might be a long wait before Thor's shattering mountains with casual tosses of his hammer, till then we can hope they take some of Thor's more cool showings from the books and slap them into the theater.

Fighting a planet with a mustache? Doesn't make a lick of sense, but it would be one hell of scene to have Thor duke it out with Ego for no reason at all, other than he's Thor and this planet with a mustache offends him.

I honestly can't recall a film depiction of Odin outside Hopkins - unless you count TV series, there was the one Lucifer crushes under his shoe in Super Natural. Zeus is probably one of the most well known pagan gods out there and the closest I think I've seen him depicted as a power-house was in one of the Legendary Journey's movies when he was complaining to Kevin Sorbo how mad reversing time in the cosmos will make the other gods.

Most people are more likely to associate Zeus now with Neeson's interpretation that Ares was beating down in Tartarus.

That's exactly what exites me about this movie. I don't know jack crap about any of them, and I can't wait for Marvel to show me why they're awesome.
I saw the concept art and I was like, "Uhhh... ok, that's Rocket Racoon... that guy is... Groot? Yeah, I think his name is Groot. I'm pretty sure the greenish guy is Draxx. Chick with the sword...... Gamora, maybe?...... No freakin clue who the gunslinger in the middle is."
