Writer: Geoff Johns
Art: Jim Lee
The Story:
Chapter 3 of the Graves story is in the books and it's definitely an improvement over the last issue. I felt like the first issue was a very solid opener but the 2nd issue felt a bit flat. The League is licking their wounds in this issue as they recover from their initial encounter with Graves. Tempers begin to flare as Diana wants swift judgement on him and it involves her sword and his throat. She's ready to go after him when Green Lantern tries to stop in. In an awesome splash page, she busts out of one of his force fields and promptly sends him flying. Superman also tries to stall her but he gets some of the same treatment.
As the League is tussling among themselves they realize their fight is being broadcast to the world. Cooler heads eventually prevail and the team takes a trip to Graves' old cabin. Once there, they learn that Mount Sumeru in the Valley of Souls is where he obtained his abilities. They take off to track him down and once inside run into the spirits of several of their loved ones....
Thoughts:
This was a very nice issue and a good rebound from issue 2. There is definitely a lot more going on and the fight scenes were well done. The characters of the team are definitely beginning to stand out which is a positive sign for the book.
The Art:
Lee is at the top of his game here. He's been on point for this story arc and as one of the best in the business it's a treat for the eyes.
Final Score:
4/5
I'm eager to see what surprises Graves has for the team. He trashed them pretty easily the first time around and I want to see how they bounce back.
