Apparently, Marvel Studios is currently 'in talks' with James Gunn about the prospect of him directing The Guardians of the Galaxy, coming in the summer of 2014. As of yet, Gunn doesn't have much under his belt to solidly prove he can pull off a movie about space-faring superhero adventurers. The closest he's come to a superhero movie so far is directing the 2012 film Super (a superhero satire movie starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page). His only showing for sci-fi expertise comes from directing the 2006 sci-fi-horror film Slither. It should be noted that both Super and Slither recieved rather mediocre ratings.
I'll admit I am a bit skeptical about this potential directing choice due to Gunn's lack of a defining track record in this film genre. But I also hold out some hope. In my opinion, Marvel Studios has yet to fail us.

Hm, strange choice.
Any news on the Ant Man movie?

I don't know anything about him so it's difficult to form an opinion. I will say that Marvel Studios has exercised really good judgement so far where directors are concerned.

I've seen Super and Slither, I enjoyed them both. Super came out of nowhere and had me and my friends laughing. Nat Fillion (Firefly/Serenity) is in both.
