I'm going to break away from the traditional review format and give a breakdown of the book, its characters and the book's main premise to avoid spoilers.
The Cast:
Frankenstein-obviously the main character and resident ass kicker. Also a lover of classic poetry and the infamous undead monster.
Father Time: SHADE agent and a close confidant of Frank's. Has to transfer his consciousness into a new body every decade.
Ray Palmer: The one and only of DC fame. Here he's the UN's liason to SHADE and resident scientist/genius. SHADE's headquarters can only be traveled to using a mixture of teleportation and Palmer's shrinking technology.
Lady Frankenstein: Frank's EX-wife, with the emphasis on ex. Frank obviously still has feelings for her but she doesn't reciprocate them. Possesses 4 arms and is nearly Frank's equal in combat.
The team operates out of the Ant Farm. The Ant Farm is a mobile, miniaturized globe that houses SHADE City. It can only be accessed via shrinking tech and teleportation. It houses a vast network of labs, weapon armories and holding cells.
The team combats a variety of what I'd probably classify as sci-fi threats. Huge monsters, journeys to other dimensions and weird threats around the globe take up much of this first arc. If I had to compare the team to something familiar it definitely has a Hellboy type vibe going.
The art is very gritty and not very good in places. The fight between OMAC and Frank was nearly impossible to follow due to it's poor quality. However, it improves greatly towards the end of the book.
Overall, this is a solid book and very different from your typical mainstream DC comic. It has a Vertigo feel and that's definitely a good thing.

3.5/5
