Transfusion: Vampires versus Robots was written by Steve Niles, the man who brought you 30 Days of Nights. Sticking with what he knows best, vampires, he is adding another element to his genre focus: robots.
The story is set in a post-apocalyptic future wasteland of Earth. A small surviving and still surviving group of humans do what they can do to survive against the never stopping onslaught of their own creation: robots. These robots live off of one thing: blood, whether it be of man or animal. We don't know why that is yet. Things don’t look good for the human race because the robots are not the only thing longing for their blood. Fighting against the robots for the blood are vampires.
The story opens up with a group of humans that find food. At first it looks like these people will be the focus point of the series, until you find something among the group who was not what he seemed who had agenda of his own for the group only to be taken away by the threat of an enemy. This is no, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" stuff, this is you're my enemy, you want my food source, I'll kill you first before you kill me or my food stuff. The action kicks in. This is where the style of artwork comes to life with a thick colourful bloody red! Everything is monochromatic which magnifies the red colour when shown. It has a gothic style that assimilate with the monochromatic colour. Maybe my taste is evolving in terms of art but I get an I, Vampire feel to this in terms of its art. That I like.
As for the story, it gives many questions, where did the vampires come from? How many humans are still around? Why did the robots turn? Do any of them have weakness? All questions am looking forward to being answered.
Story 4/5. It delivers what any opening book should do. Being of this genre, it gives much blood. Makes you want t learn more. I just love the art that helps this reach 4 rank out of 5.
