Yeah, but that's one gene. You'd probably need to alter at least hundreds to make any noticeable difference. And then you can't just alter any genes, you have to identify the recessive ones that carry the potential for harmful mutations. That shit is probably easy to do on mice which are dime a dozen, but not really viable when you have a very limited number of subjects and are actually trying to keep them alive.

That shit is probably easy to do on mice which are dime a dozen, but not really viable when you have a very limited number of subjects and are actually trying to keep them alive. It is not extremely difficult to identify genomes and manipulate them for desired results. That is actually what knockout mice are all about. They find out what happens when they add this, or take away that or even fuck this shit up over here just for lulz. As for an endangered species.... Well that is where cloning would come in handy. Cheetahs are all genetic clones of one another anyway. A mutation can thrive even in limited numbers though. It always starts with one. That one breeds two, those two breed sixd, those six breed eighteen and so on. What they really need to do is introduce multiple mutations into the gene pool. If they introduced something like 20 to 40 different mutations in twice as many subjects, they could diversify the 15,000 that are left. They could control it entirely as well since about 1/10 of all cheetahs live in captivity anyway. The snowball effect takes care of the rest really.

He's popped out enough of his own genetic material to be an expert on it.

He's popped out enough of his own genetic material to be an expert on it. Now if only I can find a female volunteer to receive it......
