Commanding OfficerName: Captain Erik Cameron Phillips
Species: AugmentTemplate: James T. Kirk (alternate reality)Skills: Tacticle Officer, advanced H2H combat, marksman, strategist, above human physical and mental stats.
Bio: Phillips was one of the many Soong Augment embryos created by
Arik Soong in the 22nd century. However, due to the radical violence of the already active Augments, Phillips' embryo remained in cryo, where the Federation kept all the remaining embryos for posterity. In 2385, one of Starfleets leading scientists saw the coming of war with the Klingons and the Romulans. Fearing and hating the Klingons, this scientist broke into the restricted cryo section where the Augment embryos were placed and stole one embryo.
He developed the embryo in secret and after 9 months, falsified birth certificates and adoption documents, which placed the Augment in his care. Even from a young age, Phillips' advanced physical and mental capabilities were objectively obvious and soon he understood just how different he was. He was able to deduce that he was genetically modified at a young age but he did not know just how far it had gotten until he confronted his father about it. This realization crushed him as he had hopes of joining Starfleet for as long as he could remember however, no human can enter Starfleet if they are genetically modified and upon finding out he was actually an Augment that his father created for war, he rejected his father and spiraled into a pattern of destruction resulting in repeated minor acts of violence.
While he was sitting in a local jail for a bar fight he had started the night before, his father came to visit him. His father showed how he could falsify lab reports and get Phillips into the Academy, but it would require Phillips to get a hold on his aggression problem. Something he promptly agreed to.
In the Academy, he met a promising young Science/Medical Cadet by the name of Dr. Marie Clark. They started an on again/off again romance that lasted the 3 years Phillips was at the Academy. Afterwards, they were placed on the USS Solstice together and on their first mission into deep space, they were attacked by a rogue Romulan vessel. The attack first took the shields out and peppered the ship with holes. The second attack blew the entire bridge into space and the only surviving officers were the cadets on the lower levels and Lieutenant Commander N'Pol, who was on the lower levels helping with getting shields back up.
The quick thinking of Phillips, and the resourcefulness of the only surviving engineer, William Stark and N'Pol modified a
personal shield to provide 2 minutes of protection from vacuum. This and a cocktail injected by Cadet Clark to aid in his survival of near 0 temperatures, allowed Phillips to create a makeshift space suit in engineering. While the Romulans pelted the heavily damaged and dying ship with salvo after salvo, Phillips navigated the exterior of the ship at blinding speeds as it was being fired upon to make it to the virtually destroyed bridge. Once there, he executed his plan, to have Stark direct all power, including life support, into one concentrated phaser beam directed at a key weakness in the Romulan design, pointed out by Cadet Denero. This would only work if N'Pol was able to carry out her mission of shutting down the shields from inside the Romulan ship. The Solstice would be lost but at the very least, it would possibly take the Romulan ship with it and allow the escape of the remaining crew.
The plan worked. The shields of the Romulan ship dropped just as Phillips fired and Denero's information was perfectly accurate. Her direction of the beam caused a chain-reaction that detonated the Romulan warp core. The resulting explosion battered the Solstice but fortunately, there was nothing left in the ship to cause an explosion of its own and instead, the ship made planetfall at a nearby M-Class uninhabited planet. His personal shield protected Phillips from the heat of reentry but they didn't last long enough to protect him from the crash. The crash broke nearly every bone in his body but he survived thanks to Clark's unwillingness to allow Phillips to die. Due to the genetic abilities of the Augments, Phillips made a speedy recovery and was awarded several commendations for acts of heroism, duty, and commitment to his crew against impossible odds. He was immediately promoted to Captain, given temporary command of the Caprica, freshly retrofitted after sitting in a museum since the 23nd century, and allowed to chose his senior crew.
Executive/First Officer/Science OfficerName: Commander N'Pol
Species: VulcanTemplate: T'PolSkills: Talented Science Officer, Vulcan stats, intimate knowledge of Starfleet vessels, proficient in ship to ship warfare, programming proficiency.
Bio: N'Pol grew up struggling to master her emotions, more so than other children and was widely seen as a failure to her family. She was easily prodded into fights with her classmates and even though she received top marks in all areas, her inability to have a firm hold on her emotions cost her any possibility to enter into the Vulcan Science Academy. With no other alternative, her family suggested Starfleet for a career, as it was the only logical option that allowed her to still be able to contribute positively to the universe.
She accelerated through the program, meeting the standards expected of any Vulcan and she did so under the guise of a Vulcan that was a master of logic. Her frustrations were often vented through intense exercise. In fact, the main reason why she seemed master of her emotion was because she was often too exhausted to express emotion. There was plenty that put her in the gym though, such as mockery from humans who ridiculed her for being an emotionless robot or the crushing weight of her overloaded academic schedule. She got through it though and was placed on the Solstice, where she quickly received several promotions in just one year, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander by the time they picked up the new rotation of cadets which had Cadet Erik Cameron Phillips among them.
While in deep space they were attacked by a Romulan vessel and N'Pol was ordered below to assist the new acting Chief, Cadet Stark in getting the shields back up. While she was below deck, her comrades were blown into space and she raged inside. She managed to keep herself together though at Cadet Phillips' behest and she was able to focus long enough to modify a personal shield to protect Cadet Phillips from the vacuum of space.
Her mission was to transport to the Romulan vessel and force down their shields in preparation of Phillips' attack. Cadet Denero pointed out that the Romulans employ a modifying shield frequency, which was too fast for phasers or torpedoes to overcome but not too fast to perform a transport, for someone with intimate knowledge of Romulan tech. N'Pol was given an Emergency Transport Unit and when the time was right, she was sent over to the Romulan ship.
She quietly cut her way through several Romulans, who were no match for her Vulcan strength, blocked off their engineering and shut down their shields, transporting away just as Phillips fired his phaser bank.
The rage of her friend's deaths, the anxiety of silently killing several Romulans, the elation of beating her enemy, and the fear as the ship made planetfall all rolled into one and under all that stress, she managed to maintain control of herself. Afterwards, she saw this as a personal victory and decided she was proud to work under the command of a daring, illogical human like Phillips.
Second Officer/Operations OfficerName: Lieutenant Commander Lee Archer
Species: HumanTemplate: Lee AdamaSkills: Engineering Officer, naturally gifted pilot in ships, shuttles, and single-manned fighters, perfect Starfleet record.
Bio: Born and raised in Texas in 2380 and considered an "average" student at the Academy, yet he possessed a natural gift for piloting. Some mistook him for a descendant of the famous Johnathan Archer and in all honest, Lee was just too tired of hearing about it to correct people by the time he reached adulthood. He actually had no relation to Johnathan Archer at all. His family operated a chain of restaurants. Even though his family history was humble, he still was raised with a moral code that some would argue was above his family's station. He believes very strongly in rules and order. As an officer, he maintains a blemish-free service record and is seen as the 'perfect' officer, despite his average test scores.
His gift with flight control is top notch and has yet to encounter a pilot that can better him in a starship or smaller. To him, it is as natural as breathing. He led several skirmishes in Delta Flyers and other shuttles while inside planet atmosphere against various threats and has saved more lives than he can remember.
After Erik Phillips was promoted to Captain, Starfleet made a command decision to promote Archer to Second Officer on the ship. They did this with the intention of hedging their bets against Phillips' cowboy nature and to make sure he didn't just get lucky with the Solstice. Archer's orders are to obey and follow the command of Phillips unless he deems Phillips unfit for duty or if he believes Phillips is needlessly putting the crew at risk. At such a time, Archer is under orders to remove himself from the chain of command, relieve Phillips of duty, and take command of the ship.
Archer is no spy though. He even refused to spy on Phillips and Starfleet assured him that is not what his mission is. He is simply supposed to monitor and make what he feels is the right decision, should the time ever come for such a decision to be made. With this in mind, Archer agreed as he felt duty-bound to do so.
Tactical Officer/Security ChiefName: Lieutenant Denero
Species: RomulanTemplate: Zoe WashburneSkills: Combat specialist: H2H, bladed weapons, firearms. Intimate knowledge of Romulan tech. Deeply loyal.
Bio: Denero's parents were staunch supporters of the Romulan movement to reunite Vulcan and Romulans for the 20 years prior to her birth up until Spock's disappearance in 2387, just before her birth in 2388. Fortunately, her parents were at Rator III at the time of Romulus' destruction, which is where Denero was born. Growing up during the Romulan social upheaval was difficult for Denero, especially since she was raised with her parent's values of peace and honesty, where other children were learning how to harm through deception and secrecy. Her sense of honor was her pillar that she fell to most often and the more she relied on it, the more developed it became. It was not long before she was an outcast among her own people for daring to desire a peaceful way of life.
Her parents taught her the ways of traditional Romulans though, so she may learn to overcome them but they stressed her not to use these ways in her education. Since subtlety was something to be avoided unless absolutely necessary, and because she was only of average intelligence, she had to learn how to defeat her enemies openly and physically. This meant she became well educated in Romulan combat. In fact, it seems that combat was one of the few things she was quite good at. This posed a bit of a problem for her since she and her family were devoted to a peaceful lifestyle.
In 2409, her family and other Romulans seeking peace were labeled fugitives and they escaped Rator III and settled on
New Romulus. From here, she had the pleasure of meeting the Romulan Ambassador to the Federation and when a Federation ship provided aid to New Romulus, she was one of the Romulans that came to Earth with her parent's permission. There she petitioned several ambassadors for recommendation into Starfleet but to no avail. None were willing to risk their reputation on an unknown Romulan. Word of her efforts got around though and it was none other than the Former Ambassador to Vulcan; the famous Jean-Luc Picard who while still enjoying his retirement, made an unannounced visit to her while she fumed at a restaurant in France so he could size her up.
He spent a few hours with her over tea and without letting her know who he was or why he was even visiting her, he bid his farewell. It was only after she had been admitted into the Academy that she was shocked to find out the man she shared her history and dreams with was the famous and, to nearly every Romulan, very much feared Jean-Luc Picard. His reach was such that she even skipped over the entrance competition exams. This was fortunate as she was not likely to have passed them anyway due to her sub-genius level intellect.
When she was nearly the end of her first year at the Academy, swamped with an overwhelming workload, she was rotated onto the Solstice for her first experience as a Starfleet officer on a Federation vessel. Despite her anxiety of failing upcoming finals, she was thrilled to be part of the crew, even if her tasks were menial without glamor. She was assigned to a security team and since she was the rookie and a Romulan, she was given the worst patrols.
When the attack happened, she was injured by a collapsing beam but she was still able to perform her duties. When she overheard that it was a Romulan vessel attacking, she scrambled to find who was in charge to give any help she could. She had to shout to be heard over the screams of the scrambling cadets but she caught Phillips' ear and provided him with vital information on Romulan weaknesses.
After Phillips was promoted to Captain, he chose her for Second Officer on his ship but Starfleet put one of their own officers in the position and let his know the placement was non-optional. Since he couldn't put her where he wanted, he instead put her in the position of Chief of Security and is his Tactical Officer on the bridge. Denero has a deep-rooted loyalty to Phillips that goes beyond Starfleet, because without him, she would still be at the academy and probably would have washed out. She would kill or die or him on a command.
Chief EngineerName: Lieutenant William Stark
Species: HumanTemplate: Tony StarkSkills: Eidetic memory, brilliant engineer, intellect that cannot be accurately measured, robust liver.
Bio: Stark has often made the claim that there was nothing he couldn't fix and when he was born, he had fixed the
EMH that birthed him in 2380. Stark's childhood was filled with nothing but taking things apart to see how they worked. When he reached adulthood, he found employment at the
Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, where he helped make dozens of ships with his own hands. He was not Starfleet however as he was deemed far too reckless and labeled as a thrill-seeker to be officer material.
Since wartime was upon the Federation, they have enlisted civilian's to help keep up with production of ships. This fast-tracked him through the Starfleet program, which for those constructing ships had become extremely lax in order to not overburden those that should be building their fleet, rather than memorizing quotes from
Zefram Cochrane.
Stark's work eventually got him noticed and he was promoted into official officer status. His days were then spent personally overseeing countless ship construction and repairs and his nights were a blur of parties and smuggled Romulan ale. Officials at Starfleet turned a blind eye to this due to Stark's absurd skill with just about anything.
When the USS Solstice came to dry dock for minor repairs and restock of common provisions, Stark got to tracking a bad relay problem that took him deep into the Jeffries tubes, where he stumbled on a little show, that he decided was his responsibility to quietly enjoy when the Solstice pulled out of port and started it's mission. When the ship was attacked, every officer in engineering had been killed along with the senior bridge crew and dozens of others.
When he saw Phillips barking orders, he offered his services. Phillips went over his plan and Stark quickly got to work on the personal shield, despite his (according to him) rudimentary knowledge of shield modulation. Shockingly, his modifications held up and when he made his way back to the Sol System, he was facing disciplinary action for being so careless as to accidentally stow away on a ship. Phillips appeared at the court session and publicly defended Stark, emphasizing that it was all in his report on how more than 500 lives were saved due to Stark's abilities.
When charges were dropped, Phillips requested that Stark be placed as his Chief Engineer. Stark had never wanted to be anything other than an engineer up until the events of the Solstice but now, he wants adventure and the glory that came with being under the command of a fearless man like Phillips.
Chief Medical OfficerName: Commander Marie Clark, M.D.
Species: BetazoidTemplate: Leonard McCoySkills: Deep well of knowledge on just about anything medically related. Telekinetic talents. Psychological expertise. Telepathic abilities common of a Betazoid.
Bio: Born in 2388 on Earth, Marie spent much of her childhood raised with humans. Her telepathic abilities manifested early however, and she was rushed back to the still recovering Betazed, nearly 19 years after the Dominion Occupation. Marie was gifted in her abilities and some of the nobles there shaped her ability as she developed. These nobles decided she had the power and control to learn the hidden teachings of telekinesis. These teachings proved very useful as it helped her cope with screening out the "noise" that powerful Betazoids often deal with.
In her spare time, while growing up on her new Betazed home, Marie often spent time studying the works of her childhood hero, Dr. Leonard McCoy. She became well practiced in medicine as well as the psychological field that most Betazoids excel in at the
University of Betazed. After she received her double doctorate in medicine and psychology at U of B, she immediately applied to
Starfleet Academy, deciding that she would emulate her childhood crush, the late Dr. McCoy.
While at the academy, she rarely socialized and was often buried in books, seeking top honors in the varied fields McCoy specialized in, up to and including exobiology. It was here that she met Phillips, a young man that she could only describe as "a great deal of trouble for any woman". Nevertheless, she was just as easily swept off her feet like many other women at the academy with his smooth wit, borderline arrogance, and thrilling nature. She also was fascinated by his incredibly fast mind. She had a hard time reading him simply because he thought much faster than other humans. Their relationship was not meant to last however. Phillips had no interest in a real relationship at the time and he had wandering eyes. Over the 4 years at the academy, they had broken up more times than she could count.
As a cadet, she served on the USS Solstice for 3 months before Phillips was rotated onto the ship. She had hoped the ship was large enough that she wouldn't bump into him as she still had a great deal of unresolved feelings for him but Phillips seemed to go out of his way to run into her. They were in a Jefferies tube, resolving some pent up energy when the Romulan ship appeared, wreaking havoc on the ship.
Marie was surprised at Phillips' natural leadership abilities when all hell broke loose. He never cracked or buckled under the pressure and even managed to pull the now acting captain, N'Pol, back to reality while directing cadets to duties and formulating his plan to save the ship, all at the same time. By the time he asked her to come up with something that would keep him alive in space, she had already mixed the cocktail, as she had gleaned her duty from his head.
When they made planetfall, she was one of the fortunate cadets that sustained only minor injuries, partially because of her telekinesis protecting her, and she scrambled her way to the bridge, where she found Phillips a broken mess. Many of her surgical talents were used to save his life that day and stabilize him until relief came. When he asked her to be his Chief Medical Officer on his ship, she initially refused due to her feelings for him. However, he was able to convince her with a significant advancement in her career, making her the youngest Medical Officer to hold the rank of Commander in Starfleet history.
She is the only person who knows of Phillips' true nature, as she had "heard" him brooding about it once when they were at the academy.
ShipConstitution Class - Light CruiserName: USS Caprica NCC-1750
History: The 50th Constitution Class ship ever made, it has been mothballed in a museum since the retirement of the original Constitution Class in the 23nd Century. However, due to the explosive war against the Federation and not enough ships to meet the demand, mothballed ships are pulled out of retirement and given vital technology upgrades while the Federation scrambles to produce more ships.
Due to the expedited upgrades to the ship and pristine condition it has been kept in at the museum, it retains almost everything the ship had during it's original tour of duty in the 23nd century. The 25th century tech is simply laid on top of it where replacements were not easily performed. This has resulted in bundles of wires ran along the walls rather than behind bulkheads and doors to main areas, like engineering and sickbay, that are locked open to accommodate the power cords running to and fro.
It is a ship that is only meant to get the crew out doing their jobs while they wait for a ship to be built. A halfway ship to hold them over. Because of these limitations it, like many other fresh crews in relic vessels, are kept inside the borders of Federation space, so as not to needlessly risk their lives against enemies that are in vastly superior ships.
