A pretty popular anime among one of the forums I regularly visit. Definitely a great one. The ending is what turned off a lot of my (online) friends about the series. It definitely could have been done better. Shuko Murase has done some fantastic work, and this is one of them.

Yeah. I hated the ending. To me it was like the ending and the show were two different stories...

Yeah, that's most definitely the biggest complain from the Ergo Proxy fanbase.

Indeed, the show kept me guessing and thinking the whole way. Something few thing's I've read or watched ever managed to do.
then the show ends and it turns out all the philosophical stuff was pointless and they are just clones...

To be fair, it wasn't the worst ending I've seen but I understand your feelings towards it.

I agree it wasn't at all the worse ending in an anime.
Strangely enough the worst ending for when it happened was Berserk. Because, having read the manga. I knew it wasn't the end.
