(Swedish: Låt den rätte komma in)
I got wind of this film while going to see Scott Pilgrim. Well now this one, Let Me In. I'm the type to do research and when looking Let Me In, I found Let the Right One in. I checked it out and then I bought it on Blu-ray. By that only should tell you it's a good film.
It's a film based on John Ajvide Lindqvist's book of the same name. Which I have also read. And had a lot of things I wanted in the film and the film had a lot of things out that were at times boring in the book.
Synopsis
In the suburb of Blackeberg in Stockholm Sweden, the twelve year-old Oskar is a lonely and outcast boy bullied in school by Conny and two other classroom mates; at home, Oskar dreams on revenging the trio of bullies. Oskar lives in an apartment complex, in which new neighbours arrive. Eli and her father, Hakån. He befriends this twelve year-old neighbour Eli that only appears during the night in the playground of their building. Through the following nights they get closer and closer, but something seems off about his new neighbour. He can't quite place it. However, he eventually learns of this shocking secret which could make or break their friendship.
One of the key points to this film is the pace of the film. It is excellent. Never feels sluggish or to fast paced when it never needed to be. The Mise en Scéne of the film is of the high quality. The lead roles are performed very well by Kåre Hedebrant [Oskar] & Lina Leandersson [Eli]. There relationship in the film is more than believable. The first act of the film Oskar is constantly burdened by his bullies. And when he meets Eli, his personality grows in vigour. To the point where he fights back. His acting comes across very well because you can do crazy things when filled with the power of love. Eli, for her character is excellent as well. She is just as lonely as Oskar, she has her reasons to be, but you see her character grow just as much as Oskar because of their relationship.
Another note I would like to say is the score for this film is probably the best I've ever heard. Here is some of his scores on his website and the score on youtube
A feature note, I never wanted to give away any spoilers, that's why I never said to much about the film. I just wanted to give enough for you to watch it.
This film is now in my top 10 films of all time.
Rating:10/10.
