Please comment, I love real criticism.
Chapter 1: The immigrant from the stars
This is the beginning of the story from Kal-El of Krypton and Lex Luthor from Earth, how their destinies were bonded even from the beginning and how the seeds of hate were planted even before they could talk, this is the story of how an alien became the best a human could hope to be and how a human was overcame by the worst humanity has to offer.
This is the beginning of the story of Superman, the greatest hero the world would ever know and without a doubt, Earth's greatest champion.
Jor-el vagued around his laboratory with thousands of thoughts coming one after the other and making him more and more unsure of his decision about the fate of his only son. “How could everything go so wrong?” Jor-el asks himself. “For centuries the Kryptonians stood as the biggest and most advanced race in the universe, our culture expanding and absorbing others in our search for extension all around the cosmos, yet the time for my people has come, the great Rao has passed judgment against our race due to the sins of our past and by doing so we can feel his wrath manifested as pits all around the city. I carry the symbol of the house of El on my back; the same symbol is all around the halls of my home. That symbol stands for something bigger than me. It stands for hope, and right now that’s the one thing that’s protecting me from completely losing my mind.” Jor-El then suddenly looks at his baby that was just starting to wake up, he forms an ironic smile and then grabs the little Kal-El into his arms.
"My only son...Have I woken you up with my random monologue?" those were the only words that Krypton's most important and brilliant scientist could come up with. Jor-el from Krypton, the only person who could see through the lies and realized that his planet was doomed from the start, their world, their people and their civilization would be destroyed in a few minutes, however Jor-el and Lara Lor-Van's son Kal-el would survive.
The young boy wouldn't remember them when he grew up, he wouldn't remember the sacrifice of them or the fact that he came from the most advanced race on the universe, that was the fate of Kal-el and the curse for being the last son of Krypton.
“There has to be another way Lara, something I haven’t thought of yet!” he yells in fear to his wife.” Lara, always the understanding wife hugs her husband but isn’t able to give him the answer he wants. “But there isn’t. Krypton is doomed; it has been this way since the siege of Kandor. When Brainiac came to the planet and stole Krypton’s heart he….” But before Lara could finish Jor-el stepped up once more to interrupt her “He killed the planet at the same time, we just didn’t know then.”
Jor-El looks through the window and notices the red sky symbolizing that their time is almost up. “We should be evacuating the whole planet right now, travel to the stars, go to another planet and find a new home which we can come to call home. Instead, my world and my people will die in a few moments along with us.”
Jor-el and Kara are now side by side facing the ship. Kara is carrying a mantle with the symbol of the house of El. It’s long, red and carries the yellow “S”. Kara is about to leave the mantle inside the rocket, Jor-el is still carrying the baby while he looks at the ship. “This is madness” says Jor-el. Lara being into maternal tears herself grabs her husband’s head and places her hand on his cheek. “It certainly is. At the same time, it’s our only hope.”
They say that the two biggest fears of a parent are both related to death. The first and biggest one is that your son or daughter dies before you do, no one who hasn’t lived that pain can come even close to understanding it. The second one is exactly the one Jor-el is feeling right now. The fear that you die before your son or daughter are ready to stand on their feet by themselves. Of not be there to teach them at the right time what you planned to tell them for years.
Jor-El then places his hand over the one of her wife and tries to explain his main concern. “The ship is still a prototype…So many things could happen; the explosion is still able to hit the ship, the engines fail, he doesn’t fall in a habited planet…”Lara interrupts Jor-el once more and then takes their son out of his hands and places him on the skyrocket that is about to take flight. “If I’ve learnt something through the years is to trust you, the ship will work and more importantly, our son will survive. My only regret is that he won’t be able to remember who we are or the civilization where he comes from.”
Jor-El analyzes the words that his wife told him and replies with as much serenity as he can hold “Mine is that I won’t be able to guide him as he grows up, no matter where he lands, he’ll always be the last survivor of a dead species. I wish I could help him with that.” After that he rushed to one of the drawers in search for the one thing that could help him cease one of his greatest fears. The greatest legacies that a man can have are the teachings and experience that he gives to his children. I won’t be there for you Kal, but I can still pass those things to you.
“Hopefully he’ll be able to use it wherever he is going” whispers Jor-el as he examines the crystal he grabbed from the drawer and that he is now depositing on his son’s rocket.
With that said, Lara Lor-Van and Jor-el leave their only child in an escaping rocket and send him, hoping that somehow, somewhere along the way he'll find a planet to call home and that he'll find happiness. They don't say a word or do any movement until they can't see their son' ship anymore, then they look at each other and kiss for the last time before their planet explodes and even though they are members of the scientific guild, they pray, they pray to Rao that their son will find peace in his adopting planet.
It all started 35 years ago, the elite people of Metropolis were gathered together in order to celebrate the inauguration of the new observatory at the outsides of the city of tomorrow and it is only natural that in the front and center of the group of the richest and most intelligent that the top city of the world has to offer we see Lionel Luthor.
Right now five persons in particular are about to start events that surpass their wildest imagination. All of them parents, without their knowledge or notice, they are about to bring the most important men of this century into prominence. Thanks to four of them, Earth will gain its greatest champion… And thanks to Lionel that same champion will gain its greatest nemesis.
Lionel and the major (whoever that is) are handshaking, looking at each other. Everyone around has their eyes on them and are smiling, various camera’s flashes can be seen also in the background. Right now they are the two most important people in the place. It’s impossible that someone isn’t staring at them with a big smile due to the event.
Ever since he was a teenger, Lionel Luthor has found his way through the various different types of universities and corporations, by the age of 24 this young man had not only been able to conquer the corporative world, he had also become the proud father of the boy who would one day inherit the world, Lex Luthor.
Lionel Luthor thinks this is a day like any other, another day where he just does the same routine to pretend to give a damn about the world in order to gain popularity in his soon-to be announced career for president of the United States, little does he know that this night will change his life and the one of his son Lex forever.
Lionel Luthor quickly starts to climb the stairs of the building to see through the telescope that he designed and that his company built, just before he does he turns to the audience though and like every other night he makes a short but powerful speech, it's all part of his game, the game he has been playing all of his life and that even if he doesn't realize it, ends today.
Lionel and the major are now climbing together an enormous stairs in order to get closer to the big telescope of the observatory. Everyone else at the party is looking at them from below, they aren’t doing anything else than that.
Lionel takes central place as he starts to do his speech for the crowd below him. “Ladies and gentlemen of Metropolis, tonight we are reunited to see the start of a new age for our city. Through the ages we've proved the world why Metropolis is considered the greatest city on Earth, have shown them over and over why Metropolis is considered an utopia, we are the city of tomorrow. That's why my friends, I invite you today to stop looking to the rest of the Earth and for the first time in a long time to look up to the sky and see that beyond us there's something...”
Lionel then turns around to use the telescope which completely displays the space where a shower of meteors is taking place; they are from diverse colors, all of the ones of the various colors of kryptonite. Most of them are green and those meteors are the biggest ones, the others are less various and smaller going directly towards the viewer. In front of them one can notice the ship of baby Kal-El coming on the same directions as the meteors.
Lionel Luthor quickly takes his eye out of the telescope and yells them to contact the authorities, after that he runs over and asks his driver to take him to the mansion where he lives.
“What's the rush boss?”Asks Mercy Gravy with a curious tone, Lionel just cleans his front and looks at her with a nervous face.”Just drive Mercy and no questions for the rest of the night.”And after saying that, Lionel looks through the window trying to see from his car the same thing he saw in the observatory to make sure he wasn't crazy, a confirmation never comes but neither something saying that he isn't.“Very well sir.” Replays Mercy and does as she is told
One hour later the car arrives at the Luthor's mansion and for the first time ever Lionel doesn't wait for his driver to open the door to him, he just runs as fast as he can without even bothering to make his presence known to the wife he stopped loving many years ago or the little baby that they both had together.
Lionel runs to his library and starts searching for a few scrolls that he bought from a blind prophet when he was traveling through Asia, that man was born without the ability to view but apparently with the natural ability to have visions of the future which he interpreted through painting.
The scroll had a bald man thrown on the ground and a being that looked alien with a strong presence and a big "S" on his chest carrying the world on one hand, below the words "The inmigrant from the stars marks the beginning of the downfall of Luthor" in it.
Nervous about the implications that the ship he had seen in the observatory meant the arrival of the being that would mean his fall of power, Lionel Luthor knew that he had to prepare himself to avoid the prophesy from even happening.
"...Lex" whispered Lionel as he realized that his best way to prevent his destiny to happen was to prepare his son to be able to destroy the alien before the prophesy was fulfilled.
On the other side of the state there was another man working on the lands his family had had for various generations, Jonathan Kent a better man than Lionel Luthor could even hope to be and a father without a son. For years Jonathan and Martha Kent had done everything in their power to try to have a child of their own, they had used every method that was affordable to them without results and when menopause came for Martha then the only thing they could do was pray, pray that somehow out of a miracle they would be able to have the son or daughter they so desperately desired.
And then as if somehow the prays of two men from different planets had come together into one, a great ship descended and fell on the corn fields of the farm of Jonathan Kent. Along with his wife both of them run trying to extinguish the fire only to find a little baby playing next to the fire.
Martha Kent quickly grabs the baby with so much care you would think it's her own and Jonathan tries without success to stop the big fire that is destroying all of the work he has put there through all the season, however just before he gives up knowing that there's no way of doing such task, the little baby they found sneezes and just like that a great torrent of wind comes their way and puts the fire down in an instant and revealing the almost destroyed ship in the progress.
The Kents look at each other without knowing what to say and just bring the mysterious child into their home, knowing that for some reason they've been granted not only a son but also the most powerful being on the planet.
