Marvel has unveiled a new mini series coming in March 2011 called 5 Ronin. It seems like a very cool idea, but to me, the characters seem a bit out of place aside from Wolverine. I'm not sure if I am understanding it correctly, and I don't know if this is some kind of non-cannon 'What If?' sort of thing either. What do you guys think?

Yeah because Hulk fits in here so well.

I would have loved this concept if the selection of characters was better. Wolverine is a must in things such as this, but why Deadpool (again)? Why is the Hulk here, at all? Even the Punisher seems misplaced since he has nothing to do with Japan and the samurai code of honour.
This could have been amazing had Marvel amassed a roster of people who have truly trained as samurai, or, at the very least, their training was somewhat related to it.

The Hulk doesn't fit but it's different.Anything Marvel can do that's unique is a step up from recycling.

I just hope they don't make Deadpool some comic relief that he is now. If they write him well he might work but its a long shot, and they would have to change his character completely. I also don't see the Punisher as a samurai, he will pretty much do anything to accomplish his kill which is not how samurai is portrayed in comics or fiction. And Hulk is just pure fail to be blunt about it.

Why place such an overpowered character among 4 street levelers? I feel gratified that Milligan is writing since he's a good writer, but the selection of characters could have been far better (aside from Logan and Betsy).
For instance, characters like, Daredevil, Elektra, and Daken could have been in this project.I wouldn't mind if he followed the code, or not, but I don't recall Frank ever training as a samurai, or a ninja so he seems to be here for the sake of it, too.
Agreed on Deadpool. It could work if he acts in a serious manner. He has the tragic background to pull it off.

I think it could have worked better if Bruce hadn't had his powers restored recently. He isn't properly trained of course, but it would be interesting to see how he'd cope. What is redeeming about this, is that the Hulk retains Bruce's intellect (for the most part) now, so the story will not necessarily be reduced to a mindless destruction ride.I'm annoyed by the constant Wolverine/Deadpool connection, too.

I was thinking Elektra would be great also. Daredevil is another good one, same with Daken (interesting potential for some father/son drama too). I was going to suggest Shang-Chi and Iron Fist possibly, but it wouldn't really make sense since their styles are Chinese in origination I believe. But it still makes more sense than some characters here. Even Moon Knight could be interesting. (I'm not familiar with Psylocke so I can't comment, but it seems you guys are fine with her).
I think Deadpool could work extremely well if they make him a much more serious manner. Who knows, this could set up a major change for this character because this whole thing might really hit home for him. Of course I'm not suggesting he lose his humor, because that is essential to him, but this is a prime opportunity for Marvel to make Deadpool interesting again. Hell, he could really show off his fighting skills and swordplay here as well.
Unfortunately, I doubt Marvel has anything planned for Deadpool like I just mentioned. Shame really. But if they do, I will be beyond elated.
Of course Wolverine is probably the best possible fit though. Hopefully we see a great portrayal of his character as well.
