I love the Silent Hill series. Though some of the latter day titles are not as good, the initial 4 were some of the best games I have played. Combat is realistic, the atmosphere is terrifyc (that is not a typo just terrify with a c), and the puzzles on hard difficulty are incredibly challenging.
I have a rather unorthodox theory about the entire series that completely contradicts the common understanding of the game.
-------------POSSIBLE SPOILERS-------------
I believe that all the spiritual, religious, reality warping, ghost stuff is a red herring. There are no ghosts or other realities or gods or any other crap that you might believe. The entire game takes place in the mind of powerful telepath, usually the bad guy in the game. The main character also has some telepathic potential and because of such can actually fight back.
So tell me what you think about my theory or just what you think about Silent Hill.

Not a big survival horror fan, but I do like to watch some let's plays of Silent Hill, mostly for the atmosphere. Might get the latest Silent Hill if it doesn't suck ass.
Your theory is pretty good, but fits better with the F.E.A.R games rather than Silent Hill. I mean, wasn't the big bad of the first game a monster demon thing?

Silent hill was a good series, even if it went downhill.

No, you think you fought a demon but what you were really fighting was a mental construct that appeared to you like a demon.

Alessa Gillespie, of course, she is the telepath.

Alessa Gillespie, of course, she is the telepath. But why would Alessa want you dead? And why would she make all that stuff?

Because Heather Mason is also a telepath and Harry has telepathic potential.
